Hungama Play launches Season 2 of ‘Damaged’

MUMBAI: Hungama Play, a leading video on demand platform owned by Hungama Digital Media, has launched the second season of its blockbuster Hungama Original, ‘Damaged’. Like the first season, Damaged 2 is a psychological crime drama with a strong female character at the helm of the story. This season features a new story with Hina Khan and Adhyayan Suman in the lead, and has an added thrill of supernatural elements. The show is directed by Ekant Babani and is now available to stream on Hungama Play and partner networks.

The season follows Gauri Batra (Hina Khan) and Akash Batra (Adhyayan Suman) who run a homestay together. While all may seem idyllic in their beautiful guest house, things begin to unravel when a little girl visiting the homestay goes missing. Investigations begin, suspects emerge and it is soon learnt that the disappearance is not an isolated event. As the prime suspects, Gauri and Akash’s twisted life comes under the scanner and their secrets soon become public. What are Gauri and Akash hiding? What are the strange noises that come from their house? Is Gauri hallucinating or is she really haunted by a ghost? In this sinister world of Damaged 2, nothing is what it seems and no one is what they appear to be.

Hungama Digital Media COO Siddhartha Roy said, “Hungama Originals have helped us create and offer content that is distinctive, differentiated and unavailable on the traditional medium. Damaged was the first original show that we launched and its innovative storytelling and strong characters were appreciated by the audiences, receiving over 32 million episodic views till date. With the second season of the show, we are pushing the envelope further by offering a unique narrative led by an exceptional cast. We are certain that the merit of our content combined with the strong distribution strategy will help us receive an even higher exposure than the first season.”

Started on 14 January, the show is available on Hungama Play, Hungama’s video on demand platform. Hungama will leverage its robust distribution network to deliver the show to an audience over 150 million worldwide. Damaged 2 will also be available to stream through Hungama Play on Vodafone Play, Idea Movies & TV, Airtel Xstream App, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Tata Sky Binge, MX Player and Android TVs. Additionally, Hungama’s association with Xiaomi will enable consumers to watch the series via Hungama Play on Mi TV.

Elaborating on the show’s concept, Ekant Babani, the director of the show said, “Damaged 2 is an interplay of psychological crime drama and supernatural. It keeps a strong woman at the centre of the story and will offer the audience an unconventional narrative with the perfect dose of drama, thrill and horror. It was a pleasure to work with Hina and Adhyayan, and wonderful to work with Hungama again. I am certain that the audience will enjoy the series as much as we enjoyed making it.”

Damaged 2 also stars Rahul Singh, Akansha Kadre, Sachin Parikh, Sapan Gulati, Amit Kumar Poddar and Anjana Nathan. It is produced by Alligator Media Productions along with Hungama Digital Media. Damaged 2 is now available to stream on Hungama Play and partner networks.

Hungama Digital focuses on storytelling & narrative

MUMBAI: Jumping on the digital content bandwagon, digital entertainment company Hungama Digital Media announced four web series in the first half of this year. On the back of the encouraging response from its first two shows, it forayed into the regional content space recently. While “content is the king” has been hailed as the tagline in the ecosystem, Hungama Digital Media COO Siddhartha Roy also said storytelling and narrative have been the primary focus of the platform‘s content strategy.

Recently, the streaming platform launched its third original web series Bar Code. Roy said that it took them more than 1.5 years to ensure it was of high quality. To promote the show, Hungama will primarily leverage its own assets in digital media as well as YouTube. Along with that, interesting corporate communication, public relation and outdoor marketing will play an important role.

Before Bar Code, it released Damaged and Hankaar which got good consumer response. “The response has been encouraging and that’s the reason we went into the regional space. Between the two shows, we have done 48 million episodic views. It gives us a lot of strength to go out and build this space. So you will see a lot of it on the back of this great consumer acceptance,” Roy said.

Boys with Toys, another show which was announced earlier this year will be launched in the next two months. The first Marathi original show will also be launched soon. In addition to that, there are a number of new shows in store which are in the process of greenlighting or under production. More interestingly, with the first regional show, Hungama will also enter the brand integration territory. “We will not tell a story as we have a brand to work with but we will look at the story and will see if there’s an opportunity in that story to work with the brand,” he mentioned.

“Now we are reaching out to the target of 53 million users today and of that we have roughly about 32+ million users which consume video product. So, our intent is basically to go out to that audience.  “Along with a large Indian audience, we have a very large South Asian audience when it comes to outside India,” he said.

While he was asked if international players are putting more pressure on local players, he said Indian market is ever growing and the game is beyond “us versus them”. Consumers will flock towards the content they find interesting. It will be about who can tell a good story and build a community for that narrative.

“The ecosystem today has roughly 150-180 million consumers who are consuming video. I believe that will grow to 500 million over the next three years. More opportunity to come and much more consumers,” he commented.

The new player with an ambitious roadmap is waiting for FY 20 with exciting plans. Over time, it will invest more in the digital content space and for better distribution will look at more partnerships.

Hungama to launch four new original programs

MUMBAI: Hungama, is one of the India’s largest digital entertainment company, today announced its foray into long-form original programming. Four shows, Damaged, Hankaar, Bar Code and Boys with Toys, each belonging to a different genre and showcasing a wide-ranging cast and crew from the film, TV and theatre world will launch over the next three months. Damaged, premiering on 6th June 2018 on Hungama Play, will kickstart this initiative of the company.

While the initial 4 shows would be in Hindi, Hungama also plans to create original content in other major Indian languages.

Commenting on this, Hungama Digital Media  managing director and CEO, Neeraj Roy, said, “Hungama Originals are a step forward in storytelling for us. Each of our originals explore different themes and feature strong, contemporary storylines with compelling performances in order to appeal to a diverse, heterogeneous digital audience. We hope to launch 10 – 12 shows in this fiscal year and are certain that through our long-form content, we’ll be able to significantly increase our user base.”

Damaged, a psychological crime drama, stars Amruta Khanvilkar as the seductress, Lovina – a promiscuous, brutal and remorseless serial killer, and Amit Sial as Abhay – a ruthless, angry and trigger–happy cop. The story begins with the disappearance of a famous painter. Soon the cops realize that his case is just the tip of the iceberg, there are numerous other young men who have gone missing and have never resurfaced. Investigations start and a suspect emerges – Lovina. This turns into an intriguing cat and mouse game between Lovina and the police, led by Abhay.

The show is an interesting study of human behaviour with both the lead stars playing characters that are flawed and have more shades than one. Lovina is an ordinary woman who has a way with men, but finds it difficult to forgive their trespasses. She ultimately embarks on a dark journey from which she can’t return. Abhay, a cop obsessed with solving the serial killings to the extent that he’ll go to any lengths possible, is plagued by his own inner demons that rob him of his humane qualities. The worlds of these ‘Damaged’ characters collide, creating a dramatic and gripping confrontation. The show is directed by Aarambhh Mohan Singh and produced by Alligator Media Productions.

Hankaar, an original crime drama, narrates the story of five Mumbaikars – Nisha (Yogini Chouk), Mangesh (Pramod Sanghi), Pradeep (Rajesh Balwani), James (Shardanand Singh) and Joy (Ram Menon). The story arc follows their struggles and triumphs. Unknown to each other, their lives get intertwined because of a common enemy and certain events in their lives push them to take an unexpected journey. Hankaar is produced by Pocket Films, Talkaholics Productions and Cancom.

Bar Code, an original drama is about the uber-elite and is set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s buzzing nightlife. Starring heartthrobs Karan Wahi and Akshay Oberoi, the show deals with the lives of 2 best friends-turned-enemies, both owners of two rival nightclubs in the city. As much as they have a good life going for them, destroying the other is the only thing on their minds, considering the grudge from the past they hold for each other. Bar Code is produced by Panorama Studios.

A young comedy, Boys with Toys is a hilarious take on the lives of two young men, Aditya (Umang Khanna) and Jignesh (Rishabh Chaddha) whose lives go into a complete flip when one of them receives an unusual inheritance – a box full of sex toys. The boys need to figure ways to turn the inheritance into a thriving business and in the process, have some misadventures along the way. Boys with Toys has been produced by Ashvini Yardi’s production company, Vini Yard Films.

Hungama will continue to focus on stories that appeal to both, Indian and global audiences. Hungama Originals will address a large audience pool seeking differentiated content across different age groups, genders and geographies, offering something for every viewer.
