    Crunchyroll to release ‘Solo Leveling -ReAwakening’ in Indian theaters

    Mumbai: Crunchyroll has acquired the India theatrical rights for Solo Leveling – ReAwakening, a film featuring a recap of the first season and a sneak peek of the first two episodes of the upcoming second season.

    Solo Leveling – ReAwakening will be released in India by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment on 6 December 2024. The anime, adapted from Chugong’s web novel, first debuted on Crunchyroll in January 2024, with season two set to release in January 2025.

    Set in a world where ‘gates’ connect to another dimension, people with superhuman powers, called ‘hunters’, conquer dungeons for a living. Sung Jinwoo, the weakest hunter, discovers a hidden dungeon and takes on a quest that allows him to level up, changing his fate.

    Solo Leveling is animated by A-1 Pictures with motion graphics by Production I.G, directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, and features music by Hiroyuki Sawano and Tomorrow x Together, with character design by Tomoko Sudo and monster design by Hirotaka Tokuda.

    Mumbai: In celebration of the 40 anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s legendary manga, Toei Animation released Dragon Ball DAIMA, a new episodic series based on an original story from the Dragon Ball creator. This highly anticipated series will begin streaming on Crunchyroll on 11 October 2024, with subtitles in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and Southeast Asia. Fans can enjoy new weekly episodes simulcast with the Japanese TV broadcast.

    Dragon Ball DAIMA introduces a fresh story where Goku and his friends, due to a conspiracy, are turned small. Together with new characters, Glorio and Panzy, they venture into the ‘Demon Realm’. The series is directed by Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki, with character designs by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru and the series composition by Yuko Kakihara.

    The opening theme, “Jaka Jaan,” is composed by Grammy Award-winner Zedd, with vocals by singer-songwriters CLIEVY and KEEN from C&K. Zedd also produced the ending theme, “NAKAMA,” featuring AI. This collaboration marks a significant moment in Dragon Ball’s musical history.

    Dragon Ball DAIMA was initially revealed at New York Comic Con 2023, thrilling fans worldwide. It celebrates Dragon Ball’s incredible global success, building on the legacy of a franchise that began in 1984 and has sold over 260 million manga copies globally.

    The opening weekend of Android BGMS Season 3 was a resounding success, recording peak concurrent viewership exceeding 140,000 on digital platforms. The tournament commenced with a three-day Opener Week, where all 24 teams—20 invited and four qualified— were in action at the Android Arena in Chhatarpur, New Delhi.

    The top 18 teams led by table toppers team 8Bit, and consistent performers OneBlade, IQOO Soul and Team X Spark  progressed to the League Week. They were joined by team Z and Godlike Esports who were selected through audience voting from the bottom six. Meanwhile, Team Limra, Gujarat Tigers, Viking Esports and FS Esports were eliminated from the competition.

    During the league week from 22 July to 4 August, the 20 teams will compete in the survival week and domination keague stages. The top four teams will secure direct qualification for the finals, while the remaining 16 teams will participate in the playoffs scheduled for 6 and 7 August. In the grand finale from 9 to 11 August, the top 12 teams from the playoffs, along with the four best teams from the league week, will compete to fight for the BGMS Season 3 title.

    Adding a touch of innovation, this season also includes three exciting formats –

    1.   Powerplay (active throughout the tournament) – Squads will earn double points for each finish they achieve in the first circle of every match.

    2.   Bounty (active during the league weeks – survival week and domination week) – The top four squads from the overall standings of league week one, followed by the top four in each subsequent match will carry a bounty. Teams can earn bonus points only by eliminating an entire squad with bounty on them, with 10 points per squad.

    3.   Impact player (active during the weekend matches of the league stage:  27-28 July and 3-4 August) – The in-game leader (IGL) of each squad will conduct a random draw to designate an Impact Player who will earn double points for each finish they achieve. Teams will earn four points for every finish by the Impact Player during Powerplay.

    “Going beyond traditional tournament formats, our new concepts are designed not only to heighten the intensity of the tournament for players and viewers but also to set a new standard for esports in India. These innovations aim to push the boundaries of competitive gameplay, and I am incredibly excited to see this new format unfold. Similar to traditional sports tournaments, Android BGMS Season 3 will produce memorable, nail-biting moments and games decided by the smallest of margins. We will witness players rise to the occasion, carrying their teams to victory,” added Akshat Rathee.

    The teams who will be  advancing to the League Week of Android BGMS Season 3 are as follows: Team 8Bit, OneBlade, IQOO Soul, Team X Spark, REVENANT, Entity, Gods Reign, Team Forever, Reckoning Esports, Carnival Gaming, Raven Esports, WSB GAMING, VASISTA ESPORTS, TEAM ORANGUTAN, Global Esports, MOGO eSports, Team Tamilas, Carpediem, Team Z and Godlike Esports.

    Fans can catch all the action of Android BGMS Season 3 on Star Sports 2 (HD & SD) in English and Star Sports First in Hindi from Monday to Saturday from 7:00 pm. On league week Sundays, playoffs and finals, the broadcast will be from 6:30 pm. Fans will also have the option to switch to Tamil & Hindi commentary on SS2 using the blue button.

    The tournament will also be streaming on the YouTube channels of Star Sports and NODWIN Gaming.

Prime members can now purchase an add-on subscription to Crunchyroll at ₹79 per month, gaining access to over 800 anime titles, including the latest shows and movies, some of which will be available for viewers in India in multiple languages, immediately after their release in Japan.

    With a subscription to Crunchyroll on Prime Video Channels, Prime members can enjoy more than 40 new shows from the new anime season, including the new sci-fi monster series Kaiju No.8, the fan-favourite series Black Butler – Public School Arc, which returned nearly ten years after its original run, Solo Leveling, Demon Slayer -Hashira Training Arc- and many more. Select shows and movies will also be available in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, in addition to English.

    Crunchyroll to launch on Amazon channels in India

    MUMBAI: Anime lovers in India are in for a treat. Crunchyroll, the anime OTT from Sony Pictures is being readied for a launch on Amazon channels in India and in many countries in south east Asia.

    Speaking at an investor analyst call on 30 June, Sony Pictures chairman & CEO Tony Vinciquerra announced that the rollout of Crunchyroll on Amazon is going to happen in a couple of months. 

    “We have more that 13 million subscribers,” he said. “Crunchyroll is going to be our prime driver for us. We have not really pushed the service in Asia. We are now building up the inventory for our launch. The Amazon channels deal has done very well for us in the US and we are confident it will do as well in south east Asia and India as well.”

    AnimeTimes, another service, from Japanese firm Avex Pictures is already available on Amazon channels in India.

    Mumbai: Crunchyroll is thrilled to announce the early launch of Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs of ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc.’ Indian fans will be able to enjoy these new dubs starting 9 June 2024. The release in India underscores Crunchyroll’s commitment to providing an exceptional anime experience by offering localized content for its diverse global audience.

    Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc premiered on 12 May 2024, on Crunchyroll, with new episodes simulcasting on the platform every week.

    Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotoge published under Shueisha’s jump comics, which consists of 23 volumes and over 150 million copies in publication. The animation production is by ufotable.

    The story begins when Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family is killed by a demon, joins the Demon Slayer Corps to turn his younger sister Nezuko back into a human after she is transformed into a demon. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba first premiered in April 2019 with the Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc, followed by the feature film Mugen Train in October 2020,  and the TV series Mugen Train Arc and Entertainment District Arc from 2021 through 2022. In 2023, the Swordsmith Village Arc debuted on Crunchyroll, shortly after the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- World Tour theatrical release.

After premiering as a two-part film – part one released on 22 March and part two will be released on 24 May only in Japan – Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction will be available to stream on Crunchyroll, in over 200 countries and territories worldwide including India, as an all-new 18-episode television series version starting on Friday, 24 May at 8:30 am IST, with episodes releasing weekly featuring brand new footage never before seen in theaters.

    Nominated for an Eisner Award in 2019 and recognised critically in 2018 at San Diego Comic-Con as one of the year’s Best New Manga, Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction is based on the original graphic novel created by Inio Asano (Goodnight Punpun) and published by Shogakukan from 2014 to 2022 with over three million copies in circulation.

    As the world is threatened by the sudden appearance of a mysterious alien mothership, best friends Kadode Koyama and Oran “Ontan” Nakagawa carry on about their high school life.
