    Veteran producer-director Dheeraj kumar, Creative Eye founder, passes away at 79

    MUMBAI: Mumbai is grieving the loss of veteran producer-actor Dheeraj Kumar Kochhar, founder of Bombay Stock Exchange-listed Creative Eye, who passed away this morning at the age of 79. Kumar was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Saturday following a severe bout of fever, cold, and cough, which was later diagnosed as acute pneumonia.

    Despite intensive treatment and ventilator support in the intensive care unit, his condition remained unresponsive. He breathed his last on the morning of 15 July following cardiac arrest. Tellychakkar, a sister publication, confirmed his passing while under close medical supervision.

    A graduate of the Film & Television Institute Pune, Kumar’s career spanned decades, seeing him carve a formidable reputation as a top producer for both Doordarshan and private satellite television channels. He also graced the silver screen, acting in numerous films.

    His prolific production house, Creative Eye, was behind a vast array of popular television shows, including the likes of Kahan Gaye Who Log, Adalat, Sansaar,  the iconic Om Namah Shivay, Dhoop Chaon, Shree Ganesh, Jaane Anjaane, Om Namo Narayan, Ruby Duby Hub Dub, Miilee, Jodi Kamaal Ki, Betiyann, Hamari Bahu Tulsi, and Ishq Subhan Allah, among many others. As an actor, his filmography included Painter Babu, Darling Darling, Kranti, Heera Panna, Raaton Ka Raja and Shreeman Shrimati.

    Kumar’s last rites are scheduled for Wednesday at the Pawan Hans Crematorium. He is survived by his wife, Zuby Kochhar, who serves as a whole-time director in Creative Eye. 

    His passing marks the end of an era for Indian cinema and television.

    Sab to trace journey of comedy through 100 years of cinema in new show

    MUMBAI: Sab is launching a non-fiction show that traces the journey of comedy through 100 years of cinema.

    Titled ‘Safar Filmy Comedy Ka’, the show is premiering on 27 January.

    Hosted by Sunil Grover and Muskaan Mihani, the show will be produced by Creative Eye.

    Each episode of ‘Safar Filmy Comedy Ka’ will showcase one trend of comedy including physical, action, slapstick, cult comedy and mistaken identity across 100 years of cinema.

    Paying tribute to popular comedians of Bollywood from different eras, the series will feature actors like Juhi Chawla, Prem Chopra, Divya Dutta, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Asrani share their cinematic experience in comedy with the audience.

    Sab EVP and business head Anooj Kapoor said, “The style, content and pace of Indian movies has advanced vastly over the years and so has the way in which the film industry treats comedy. Comedy as a genre has evolved so much so that comedy centric movies are turning out to be blockbusters. ‘Safar Filmy Comedy Ka’ is a tribute to the contribution of comedians and industry veterans towards the genre of comedy. ‘Safar Filmy Comedy Ka’ will offer differentiated content to its viewers & a great family viewing experience.”

  • Creative Eye Q3 net profit at Rs 3.3 million

    MUMBAI: Creative Eye Ltd’s net profit has posted a net profit of Rs 3.3 million in the third quarter of the current fiscal, up from Rs one million a year ago.

    The company’s revenues stood at Rs.55.2 million as against Rs 39.3 million during this period. For the nine-month period ended 31 December 2006, Creative Eye had posted a net profit of Rs 6.4 million on a revenue of Rs.155.9 million.

    Creative Eye will launch Tulsi Mere Angan Ki, a social programme, on Doordarshan at 8.30 pm every Saturday from 10 March.
