  • Cinema workshop & appreciation course begins in Pune

    MUMBAI: ‘Understanding Cinema’ — a workshop and film appreciation programme jointly orgainsed by the Indira School of Communication (ISC) and Aashay Film Club, began in Pune today.

    The workshop and film appreciation programme was jointly inaugurated by music director and film critic Bhaskar Chandavarkar, Indiantelevision.com founder, CEO and editor-in-chief Anil Wanvari and Indira School of Communication director Shashidhar Nanjundaiah.

    The programme includes seven days of conceptual learning and three days of hands-on training in making a short film.

    ‘Understanding Cinema’ will showcase a bouquet of Indian and international films in various genres and ranging from the first film ever made to the latest ones, informs a press release.

    The speakers over the 10 days include filmmakers writer-director Vinta Nanda, director-producer Sumitra Bhave, film academician, script writer and director Anil Zankar, actor and former dircetor of Film and Television Insititue of India (FTII) Dr Mohan Agashe and film academician Samar Nakhate to name a few.

    Chandavarkar said, “Cinema is a cultural experience, and that culture and cinema are mutually interdependent in shaping each other. He said workshops like this would help general publics broaden their horizons in understanding the medium of film.”

    Nanjundaiah said that the programme will provide an effective alternative to other film appreciation courses, and add value in that participants would have hands-on experience in making a short film. Understanding Cinema would recognize milestone films in traditional and non-traditional, art and commercial cinema.

    He added that the distinction between so-called art and commercial cinema was diminishing, but that critics and scholars need to pay more attention to that changing nuance.

    On the other hand, Wanvari elaborated on the changing scenario in television industry and pointed at the enormous possibilities of fusion between television and cinema. He expressed confidence that workshops such as this would ensure such possibilities.

    The official release states that the participants will also have the opportunity to watch landmark films each day, such as Singin’ in the Rain, Pather Panchali, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, White Noise, Vastupurush, Sadgati, No Man’s Land, and Osama.

  • Balaji Telefilms, Symbiosis tie-up for television course

    MUMBAI: Balaji Telefilms and Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication Pune-based institute (SIMC) are jointly launching a programme in television writing (fiction).
     

    According to a media release, the two has teamed up to groom much-needed professionals for the rapidly growing television industry.

    SIMC will offer an intensive two-month training programme, at Pune, covering a wide range of topics like screenplay writing, scenic design, television production, dialogue writing for television and film appreciation amongst others to aspirants, states the media release.
     
     

    Balaji Telefims, the content provider has now tied up with SIMC to fulfill its requirements of professionally trained television fiction writers.

    Balaji Telefilms is the fiction content provider for the Indian television industry and creates popular television programmes in a number of Indian languages, producing 21 serials which are aired on channels like Star Plus, Star One, Doordarshan, Sony Entertainment, Zee TV, Gemini, Surya, Udaya and others.

    MICA course on public relations to start from 15 July

    AHMEDABAD: MICA (Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad) has announced a career development programme in emerging areas of communications – public relations and events management. The course will commence from 15 July 2003 and will cost Rs 150,000 ($4,000).

    A press release adds that the main objective of the programme is to develop students into high calibre professionals in public relations and event management for careers in Public relations, corporate communications, event management and marketing communications functions.

     

    The programme is a nine-month, full-time residential one leading to a post-graduate certificate in public relations and event management.

    The MICA release says that the programme has been designed in collaboration with eminent professionals in the industry. This programme will hence provide a unique blend of academic prowess of MICA and practical rigour of industry, it says.

    The release adds that the educational learning process involves advanced training in theory and applications in public relations and event management. The programme combines disciplines of business management and communications and focuses on management of public relations and events.

    The release also adds that students with a three years bachelor degree or an equivalent qualification in any discipline are eligible to apply. Application forms will be screened and short-listed and candidates will be called for written test and personal interview for final selection.

    The course content and the broad areas of the study would be:
    · Marketing and marketing communication
    · Mass communications and media
    · Corporate reputation management
    · Public relations strategies, tools and campaigns
    · Event management – ideation to execution

    The total number of seats are restricted to 30. The students will also undergo a eight-week on the job training.
