  • Comedy Central enters April with interesting line-up

    MUMBAI: Comedy Central is all set to roll into the month of April with a new line-up that will entertain you more than the April Fool’s Day jokes! With premieres of shows and seasons, this month will also see a quirky celebration of April Fool’s Day.
    In addition to its existing line-up of hilarious day and date shows like Man With A Planand The Great Indoors, the channel will now premiere new seasons of shows such asThe Graham Norton Show
    The channel will also introduce new shows such as Suburgatory season 1-3, Sirensseason 1-2, Whitney season1-2, Wrecked season 1 and Impastor season 2 in its programming roster for this month.
    Viacom 18 head of programming English Entertainment Hashim D’Souza said, “We are already three months into the year and it has, so far, been an amazing one! New shows, new seasons, there’s so much happening on the channel. This month is going to be even better because it’s packed with Indian TV premieres. We are extremely thrilled about it and hope that the viewers like it just as much we loved planning it.”

    Show: April Fool’s Day special

    Date: Saturday and Sunday, 1-2 April| Time: 12 pm 
    Synopsis:
    On a day which is all about jokes, hoaxes, tricks and pranks, Comedy Central is the best in the business! We’ve got your entire weekend covered with Penn Jillette, Raymond Joseph, Ashton Kutcher and Amir Blumenfeld, leading from the front to show you how it’s done!
    The channel will air Penn & Teller: Fool Us!, Pranked and Punk’d for six hours each on1st & 2nd April (Saturday & Sunday) from 12 Noon onwards.
    Further, the channel is also celebrating the day on social media, asking people to laugh off their tax worries and celebrate the day instead! This day is not just about pranking someone, it’s the funniest day of the year and Comedy Central wants to help its viewers to get out of the stress zone and laugh with them!

    Synopsis: 
    The second season starts off with Buddy being cuffed and locked in a car by Lovello and Hyde only to be pursued by Damien. Lovello and Hyde narrowly escape leaving Buddy to convince the detectives that he is an undercover FBI agent who witnessed the suicides of Jonathan Barlow and his true self. The detectives place a tracking anklet on Buddy and give him 24 hours to find Damien.

    Synopsis:

  • English Ent channels witness increased ratings except FX

    MUMBAI: HBO dropped out of the Top 5 English Movie channels’ list this week paving way for the entry of Zee Studio. Players in the genre witnessed mixed ratings. Channels in the English Entertainment genre have seen a steep rise in the viewership except FX.

    According to the week 12 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, Discovery continued to dominate the Infotainment genre with an increase in its ratings. The other channels witnessed mixed ratings this week.

    Led by Living Foodz, players in the Lifestyle space observed mixed ratings this week.

    English Entertainment

    Comedy Central with increased ratings continued to dominate the genre with 394 Impressions (‘000s) as to 326 Impressions (‘000s) last week.  Star World stood at the second place with 342 Impressions (‘000s). Zee Cafe took the third position with 340 Impressions (‘000s). Colors Infinity SD was on the fourth place with 279 Impressions (‘000s). FX stood at the fifth rank with 181 Impressions (‘000s).

    English Movies

    Star Movies with a hike in its ratings dominated the genre with 3242 Impressions (‘000s) as compared to 2661 Impressions (‘000s). Movies Now came at the second spot with 2336 Impressions (‘000s). Sony Pix with 2197 Impressions (‘000s) took the third position followed by Movies Now 2 at the fourth position with 1445 Impressions (‘000s). Zee Studio took the fifth place with 1378 Impressions (‘000s).

    Infotainment

    Discovery Channel retained the number one position with 6060 Impressions (‘000s) as compared to 5693 Impressions (‘000s) last week. History TV18 with 5257 Impressions (‘000s) took the second place. National Geographic Channel was at the third place with 3163 Impressions (‘000s). Nat Geo Wild stood at the fourth position with 3135 Impressions (‘000s). Animal Planet was at the fifth place with 3079 Impressions (‘000s)

    Lifestyle 

    Living Foodz with hike in its rating continued at the number one position with 1636 Impressions (‘000s). Fox Life stood at the second berth with 1200 Impressions (‘000s) followed by FYI TV18 with 923 Impressions (‘000s). TLC with 877 Impressions (‘000s) and Food Food with 806 Impressions (‘000s) bagged the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

  • Keshet & Ananey bring teen & kids series to India

    NEW DELHI: Global production and distribution powerhouse Keshet International (KI) and Ananey Communications Group have partnered to bring teens’, tweens’ and kids’ series to the global market in KI’s first foray into the genre.

    Alongside its subsidiary Nutz Productions, Ananey Cmmunications Group – which represents the Viacom brands Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV and Comedy Central in Israel – has created some of Israel’s biggest kids TV hits airing on Nickelodeon. These include the award-winning daily live-action teen drama The Greenhouse, an English language version of which entitled Greenhouse Academy, has become the first Israeli original commissioned by NETFLIX.

    Greenhouse Academy is produced by Nutz productions for the global streaming platform and is due to launch later this year, KI will hold worldwide second-window distribution rights.

    Among other series launching in Cannes internationally as part of the new wide-ranging, long-term relationship between KI and Israel’s largest multichannel group are two daily live-action teen dramas, The Hood and the fantastical suspense series Spell Keepers as well as the kids’ comedy Bed & Biscuit.

    THE GREENHOUSE: After losing their mother in a spaceship crash, a brother and sister arrive at an elite boarding school for gifted future leaders: The Greenhouse (22 x 175). They join two competing houses within the school. Soon, mysterious developments draw the rival houses into a secret investigation that exposes a destructive plot. Only by joining forces can they save the world from a disaster. As they fight against evil, the heroes of The Greenhouse also cope with typical teen struggles such as love, friendship, competition and betrayal.

    SPELL KEEPERS Spell Keepers (22 x 50) is an exciting, mysterious and fantastical suspense series focusing on two strong and determined girl heroines – Kirki and Layla, each of whom have set out to perform their crucial roles in the world. As they strive to save humanity, they must choose between their own personal happiness and fulfilling their destinies, while facing an inevitable collision between good and evil.

    THE HOOD In the middle of a rich town lies The Hood (22 x 100), a dingy cluster of low-income housing where modest, blue-collar families live. One such family is the David’s. Dad Ben is a widower who struggles to support his five kids but after a string of failed businesses Ben is on the verge bankruptcy, and possibly prison. Making things even worse is the mayor, who is constantly trying to get rid of The Hood altogether. The Hood is a daily drama that skillfully combines edgy class struggles with suspenseful action and big doses of fun.

    BED & BISCUIT Bed & Biscuit is a sitcom for kids, which takes place in a family-run boarding kennel for dogs in a small village in Israel. Moti is a mediocre lawyer who has had enough of the big city and wants to live a simpler life and spend more time with his only daughter Sarah. The energetic father and smart and funny daughter make the move into the country and run their family business – a dog kennel. In their new place they meet some wonderful friends such as Claudia, the voluptuous dog groomer, her son Royo, a young, charismatic, high tempered boy and a goofy girl named TomTom, and experience an insane rivalry with Jacky, the annoying neighbour.

  • Infotainment genre witnesses decline in ratings, Discovery leads

    MUMBAI: Channels in the English Entertainment genre witnessed a substantial increase in the viewership except Comedy Central. According to the week 11 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, players in the English Movies genre observed mixed ratings this week. The genre was led by Star Movies.

    In the Infotainment space, the channels witnessed a decrease in ratings. After a gap of three weeks, Discovery Channel regained the number one position this week.

    Players in the Lifestyle space observed mixed ratings this week.
    English Entertainment

    Comedy Central with decreased ratings continued to dominate the genre with 326 Impressions (‘000s) as to 497 Impressions (‘000s) last week. Star World was second with 288 Impressions (‘000s). Zee Cafe took the third position with 277 Impressions (‘000s). Colors Infinity SD was on the fourth place with 250 Impressions (‘000s). FX stood at the fifth rank with 249 Impressions (‘000s).

    English Movies 

    Star Movies with decrease ratings dominated the genre this week with 2661 Impressions (‘000s) as compared to 2907 Impressions (‘000s). Movies Now 2 was at the second spot with 2543 Impressions (‘000s). Sony Pix with 2529 Impressions (‘000s) took the third position followed by Movies Now at the fourth position with 2247 Impressions (‘000s). HBO took the fifth place with 1904 Impressions (‘000s).

    Infotainment

    Discovery Channel took the number one place with 5693 Impressions (‘000s) followed by History TV18 with 5666 Impressions (‘000s). National Geographic Channel was at the third place with 3166 Impressions (‘000s). Animal Planet stood at the fourth position with 2749 Impressions (‘000s) while, Nat Geo Wild was at the fifth place with 2739 Impressions (‘000s).
    Lifestyle 

    Living Foodz with fall in its viewership continued at the number one position with 1414 Impressions (‘000s). Fox Life stood at the second berth with 1260 Impressions (‘000s) followed by Food Food with 909 Impressions (‘000s). FYI TV18 with 811 Impressions (‘000s) and TLC with 702 Impressions (‘000s) bagged the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

    In the Infotainment space, the channels witnessed an increase in ratings except History TV18 which continued to rule the genre.

    Living Foodz continued to dominate the Lifestyle space, with other channels observing mixed ratings this week.

    Movies Now dominated the genre this week with 2907 Impressions (‘000s) followed by Star Movies with 2844 Impressions (‘000s).   • Factual infotainment genre observes hike in viewership

    MUMBAI: The factual entertainment genre has witnessed some action in the past week. After the launch of Sony BBC Earth, media observers believe that the genre is all set to grow. According to the week 9 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, players in the infotainment genre observed substantial increase in its ratings except Nat Geo Wild. The genre continued to be led by History TV18.

    Colors Infinity made a comeback in the Top 5 English Entertainment genre channels list making way for the exit of FX. Comedy Central emerged as the leader in this week’s data. The other players observed hike in the viewership this week. Zee Café dominated the genre.

    In the English Movies space, Movies Now 2 entered in the Top 5 bracket leading to the exit of Zee Studio. Players in the space witnessed mixed ratings this week.

    Living Foodz continued to dominate the Lifestyle space, with other channels observing mixed ratings this week.

    The channel has planned to celebrate International Women’s Day in a rather unique manner this year. Supporting the channel’s belief of spreading love throughout the year, it plans to launch a campaign #ThanksButNoThanks! which is an idea to celebrate the spirit of womanhood and one’s own existence everyday instead of waiting for someone else or a special day to get appreciated. 

    The channel has shot a video for the campaign that will be a montage of different women from different walks of lives coming together and expressing themselves. These women include some of the most commendable names like reality show contestant Priya Malik, melodious singer Jonita Gandhi, notable women from the field of journalism, advertising and fashion designing, including Cuckoo – Club co-founder Sharin Bhatti, & Books on Toast Entrepreneur.     In the English Movies space, Movies Now 2 departed from the Top 5 bracket leading to the entry of Zee Studio. Players in the space also witnessed mixed ratings this week.

    According to the week 8 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, History TV18 was at the number one position in the infotainment genre.

    Living Foodz continued to dominate the Lifestyle space, with the channels observing decrease in its ratings this week except TLC.

    Zee Café toppled Star World taking the first position with 275 Impressions (‘000s). Star World came to the second place with 232 Impressions (‘000s). Comedy Central sustained its third position with 230 Impressions (‘000s) whereas FX took the fourth place with 127 Impressions (‘000s). AXN continued at the fifth rank with 113 Impressions (‘000s).

    According to the week 6 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, History TV18 emerged as the number one channel in the infotainment genre.
