    Sony Pix celebrates 100 years of Columbia Pictures with ‘Century of Cinema’

    Mumbai: Sony Pix is commemorating a century of Columbia Pictures’ cinematic excellence with its special campaign, ‘Century of Cinema’. This initiative offers viewers not only a curated selection of top Sony Pictures Entertainment films but also an opportunity to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the iconic Columbia Pictures Aquaverse with an interactive contest.

    From 16 November 2024, viewers can tune in to Sony Pix at 7:00 pm for four consecutive weekends to participate in a unique interactive contest. By scanning a QR code displayed on the screen or Instagram account, viewers will be transported to a microsite. Once on the microsite, participants can collect character cards inspired by famous characters from Sony Pictures Entertainment movies. Each card possesses unique points and abilities. The user with the highest score at the end of the contest will be the lucky winner of the grand prize: a dream vacation to Columbia Pictures Aquaverse.

    To make this celebration even more special, Sony Pix will screen a lineup of iconic films, including Taxi Driver (1976), Anaconda (1997), Godzilla (1998), Spider-Man 2 (2004), 2012 (2009), Captain Phillips (2013), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Uncharted (2022).

    Natpe Budapest readies for in-person event in June

    Mumbai: The National Association of Television Programme Executives (Natpe), a global business association for content producers, distributors, streamers and buyers across all platforms has announced Natpe International’s return to an in-person event in Budapest. This year’s spotlight is on Turkish content. The event will take place between 27 and 30 June.

    The marketplace is expected to have around 300 buyers, including 37 broadcasters from the CEE, and more than 60 exhibitors from the US, UK, Latin America, Central Europe and more. Confirmed exhibitors include MGM Television, NBCUniversal,  Warner Bros Discovery,  Paramount Global, Columbia Pictures, A+E Networks, MADD, Kanal D International, Calinos, Global Agency, ATV, ZDF, Inter Medya, and Globo to name a few.

    “As Natpe returns to in-person events, I am thrilled that Natpe Budapest International roars back in-person bringing fresh new content from around the world as we welcome back many distributors from around the globe and the strongest presence ever from CEE buyers. We are proud to host the Ukrainian Pavilion on the exhibition floor,” said Natpe president and CEO JP Bommel.

    This year, there will also be a Ukrainian Pavilion, featuring five Ukrainian broadcasters: Film.UA Group, 1+1 media, Ukraine TV Channels, StarLight Media, UA Suspilne (public broadcaster), and Ukrainian Content Global Cooperation.

    “These dramatic times have unveiled to us the real meaning of the words like partnership, friendship, and support. We understand that the future of the Ukrainian content industry is firmly tied with the European market. Natpe is the next important step for the companies that come under the umbrella of Ukrainian Content Global Cooperation initiative (Film.UA Group, 1+1 media, Starlight Media, Ukraine TV Channels, Suspilne Media) for strengthening existing and finding new business opportunities. And there is some really big news that we’re going to announce in Budapest,” said MRM CEO Kateryna Udut, the organiser of the initiative.

    James Franco and Seth Rogen’s ‘The Interview’ trailer released

    MUMBAI: Columbia Pictures, via Sony Pictures Entertainment just released the first preview trailer of its upcoming action comedy The Interview starring James Franco and Seth Rogen.

     

    In the action comedy, Dave Skylark is king of the celebrity interview and host of the hit night time talk show ‘Skylark Tonight.’ The brain behind Dave’s empire is his producer and best friend, Aaron Rapoport. Unfulfilled, Aaron yearns to do meaningful work. He scores the chance of a lifetime when he secures an interview for Dave with Kim Jong-Un, the mysterious and ruthless dictator of a nuclear-armed North Korea. As Dave and Aaron prepare to leave for North Korea, they are approached by the CIA and asked to assassinate Kim. They accept the mission, becoming two of the least qualified men ever to assassinate – or interview – the most dangerous man on earth.

     

    The film stars Academy Award nominee James Franco (127 Hours) as Dave Skylark and Golden Globe Award nominee Seth Rogen (50/50) – who also co-wrote and co-directed the film with his longtime collaborator Golden Globe Award nominee Evan Goldberg – as Aaron Rapaport, with Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex). Randall Park and Timothy Simons from the HBO comedy Veep also star.

    Clint Eastwood to direct Jersey Boys

    MUMBAI: Clint Eastwood is in talks to direct Jersey Boys.
     
    Based on the popular and acclaimed stage show with a script by John Logan, Jersey Boys tells the musical tale of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, from their rise to fame to their eventual split.
     
    The film was originally developed by GK Films at Columbia Pictures before Graham King, the founder of GK Films, got it moved to Warner Bros in 2012. Then, Jon Favreau was attached to direct the film.
     
    Actors like John Magaro, Dominic Cooper, Vincent Piazza, Paul Dano and James Badge Dale were on the list of the probables to be attached with the film but Favreau wanted to go with smaller names in the lead while the studio wanted some faces that would help justify the budget.

    Sony to release ‘Spiderman 3’ in May 2007 in Imax

    MUMBAI: Imax and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced that Columbia Pictures’ Spiderman 3 will be simultaneously released at theatres throughout the world and at Imax theatres on 4 May 2007.

    Spiderman 3 will be directed by Sam Raimi, who also directed the first two installments of the franchise. The film will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of Imax.

    In Spiderman 3, Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. As Spider-Man basks in the public’s adulation for his accomplishments and he is pursued by Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard), who rivals M.J. for his affections, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care about him most.

    His newfound self-assuredness is jeopardised when he faces the battle of his life against two of the most feared villains ever (Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace), whose unparalleled power and thirst for retribution threaten Peter and everyone he loves

    Columbia Pictures & MGM schedule next James Bond film release for 2 May 2008

    MUMBAI: It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that the 22nd James Bond adventure will be released by Columbia Pictures on 2 May 2008 with Daniel Craig reprising the role of the legendary British secret agent.

    The story for the latest James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions has yet to be announced.

    EON Productions’ most recent Bond adventure, Die Another Day (2002), was also the highest grossing film in the franchise bringing in almost $430 million in worldwide box office receipts. The World is Not Enough (1999) grossed $353 million, Tomorrow Never Dies released in 1997, grossed more than $340 million around the world and Golden Eye, took in $345 million.
