    BARC 25: Times Now, CNBC TV 18, India TV, CNBC Awaaz lead genres

    MUMBAI: According to week 25 of BARC India, rating the English News space is yet again lead by Times Now. CNBC News18 held top position in English business news. India TV and CNBC Awaaz secured their leadership in respective genres.

    English News

    Times Now held number one position with 279 Impressions (000s), followed by News 9 on second spot with 142 Impressions (000s). CNN News 18 secured third spot with 126 Impressions (000s). NDTV 24×7 with 109 Impressions (000s) and India Today Television grabbed fourth and fifth position respectively.

    English Business News

    CNBC TV 18 held top position with 126 Impressions (000s). ET Now  grabbed second spot with 88 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime held third spot with 31 Impressions (000s), followed by Bloomberg TV on fourth spot with 14 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News

    India TV retained top position with 63832 Impressions (000s), followed by Aaj Tak with 63451 Impressions (000s) on second spot. India News held third spot with 44749 Impressions (000s) while ABP News held on to fourth position with 43482 Impressions (000s). News Nation with 41775 Impressions (000s) held fifth position. 

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz with 695 Impressions (000s) and Zee Business with 507 Impressions (000s) held first and second spot respectively.

    MUMBAI: Week 24 of the BARC ratings has seen the English and Business News genres showing a shrinkage in numbers. Amongst the drop outs from the toppers in the English language news space is CNN News18, even as News 9 climbed up to the fourth position. On the other hand, ratings for the Hindi News space rose substantially, with the exception of Aaj Tak and News Nation.  In the Hindi Business News genre, CNBC TV18 saw an increase in viewership while Zee Business’s ratings went down.

    English News

    Times Now dominated the genre even though its ratings declined to  to 218 Impressions (000s) this week from 364 Impressions (000s) in week 23. NDTV 24×7 took the second berth with 132 Impressions (000s) followed by India Today Television grabbing the third position with 110 Impressions (000s). News 9 entered and News X were at the No 4 and 5 positions with 97 Impressions (000s) each.

    English Business News

    CNBC TV 18 observed a downfall in ratings even as it retained its top position with 80 Impressions (000s) as compared to 143 Impressions (000s) in week 23 followed by ET Now with 78 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime continued at the third position with 43 Impressions (000s) while Bloomberg TV  was at the last spot with 8 Impressions (000s).

    Aaj Tak  clung on to its numero uno position  even though its ratings went south at 70126 Impressions (000s) as compared to 70229 Impressions (000s)  in week 23. India TV continued  at No 2  with 66035 Impressions (000s). ABP News with 46554 Impressions (000s) took the third spot. India News with 42324 Impressions (000s) was at the fourth rung of the news ladder while News Nation took the fifth berth with 38299 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz maintained its first position with its ratings rising to 511 Impressions (000s) from 506 Impressions (000s). The second spot was taken by Zee Business with 304 Impressions (000s) as compared to 410 Impressions (000s) in week 23.

    MUMBAI: Former editor of CNBC Awaaz and CNBC Bajaar, Sanjay Pugalia has joined Raghav Bahl’s The Quint. He has joined as president and editorial director of the group, which includes media properties like The Quint and BloombergQuint.

    Pugalia will report to Bahl. His main focus will be on setting up Hindi digital news platform for the venture and will also play an important role in various other verticals of Quintillion Media.

    Excited about joining hands with Bahl, Pugalia said, “It’s indeed a pleasure to work with Raghav Bahl who has set high standard and goals in this field. I am excited about the new young team that has been put in place. Their work in English is extremely impressive.”

    Pugalia’s induction is part of Quintillion Media’s strategy to explode its regional presence, which it has been piloting over the past few months.
    “The results of the pilot have been most encouraging, and provide the impetus to take the next step: amp up the growth. I am also delighted to be working again with Raghav after spending a decade together with him in building CNBC Awaaz and Bajaar”, added Pugalia.

    Bloomberg Media had joined hands with Quintillion Media on 13 April 2016. The result of the union will take birth in the next month as BloombergQuint India will deliver business and financial news over traditional broadcast, digital and live events in the subcontinent.

    “In Sanjay, we have a most accomplished professional who can help quickly scale up several of our news properties. I have the highest respect for Sanjay’s acute understanding of news and current affairs. It’s a privilege to have him on the team”, said Quintillion Media founder Raghav Bahl.
    With more than 25 years of experience in print and TV, Pugalia was till recently the editor-in-chief of CNBC Awaaz. Before that he was the News Director for Star TV. He has also held significant roles at BBC, Aaj Tak, Navbharat Times and Business Standard.

    Network18 hires Zee Business’ Amish Devgan as executive editor

    MUMBAI: The game of musical chairs in the Indian news TV channel business continues unabated. Over the last couple of months there have been many a high profile resignation and reappointment amongst those delivering news to Indian viewers. The latest to also make a move is  Amish Devgan  who has hopped on board Network18 as executive editor.  

    Devgan will closely work with Network18 news CEO and group editor in chief Rahul Joshi and consulting editor Prabal Pratap Singh. He will use his expertise to devise various strategies and plans for all the Hindi news channels under the group. Network 18 has two Hindi news channels namely IBN7 and CNBC Awaaz.

    With 16 years of journalistic experience, Devgan recently moved out of Zee Media after 14 years. In his last role, he was a prime time anchor and chief editor with Zee Business and hosted the highest TRP gaining show Big Story Big Debate at 8 pm daily. The show included several debates and discussions on various current day-to-day issues across politics, economy, and financial markets with high profile political, corporate guests and experts on camera.

    Devgan started his career with Hindustan Times and joined Zee News in 2002. He later moved to Zee Business in 2005.  He has won several accolades in the past and has successfully created a niche for himself amongst business anchors.

In the Hindi News genre Aaj Tak replaced India TV at number one position while CNBC Awaaz secured number one position this week also. The election results week effect was visible.

India Today Television stood on second position with 259 Impressions, with a rise in rating from 160 Impressions (000s) from week 19. CNN News18 climbed up a position with 258 Impressions (000s) to third spot. While NDTV 24×7 moved down to fourth position with 224 Impressions (000s). News X grabbed last spot with 73 Impressions (000s).

    Network18’s Vishal Srivastava quits

    MUMBAI: Network 18 is seeing major reshuffling with several elevations, appointments and resignations across its portfolio of channels. Adding to the list is CNBC TV18 executive VP and Head global business Vishal Srivastava who has stepped down from his position. In his past role, Srivastava used to head the government and international sales for all the channels under the network.  

    A source close to the development told Indiantelevision.com that Network 18 does not have a replacement for Srivastava as of yet. He has been associated with the company for more than 13 years.

    The company recently saw CNBC Awaaz and CNBC Bajar editor in chief Sanjay Pugalia stepping down. Pugalia had joined TV18 as editor for its Hindi language programming initiatives in March 2004. In an internal mail that was circulated, Alok Joshi has been elevated as the managing editor of CNBC Awaaz and CNBC Bajar while Dharmendra Singh has been elevated to deputy managing editor.

    In the past, Network18 had appointed Joy Chakraborthy as president of revenue at TV18 in April 2016. Chakraborthy looks after the revenue across all entities within TV18. The many sales heads under the TV18 group except for Viacom18 report to him.
