    Nikhil Tanwani’s appointment as CMD gets Baba Arts shareholders’ assent

    MUMBAI: Film and TV production and distribution  company Baba Arts is moving on to the next generation to give it a new thrust. Whole time director and CMD Gordhan P Tanwani’s son Nikhil G Tanwani was appointed as the microcap company’s chairman &  managing director effective 1 November 2024, a couple of days after his father stepped down due to old age and ill health.

    The company had approached its shareholders to give their consent to the proposal through an e-voting ballot process between 3 December 2024 and 1 January 2025. With the evoting closing yesterday, the scrutiniser gave his report which showed that the proposal got 100 per cent of the shareholders assent. Film star Ajay Devgn is one of the shareholders of the company.  

    Baba Arts  informed the Bombay stock exchange on 2 January  as part of its regulatory process that the company and its shareholders had approved of Nikhil’s appointment.

    Baba Arts reported a topline of Rs 12.48 crore and a net profit of Rs 1.97 crore in the year ended March 2024.

  • FIR registered against Sudarshan TV channel

    MUMBAI: An FIR has been registered against the chief managing director (CMD) and editor-in-chief of Sudarshan news channel for allegedly instigating enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion. Sudarshan News, a satellite TV channel launched on 26 January 2007, is a Hindi news channel based in Uttar Pradesh. Suresh Chavhanke is the chairman, managing director and also the editor-in-chief.

    Sudarshan TV is among the list of channels which has applied to  the ministry of information and broadcasting for approval of two more channels.

    The FIR has been lodged under various sections of IPC including those dealing with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth and over content to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public and other sections, Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) police station SHO Brijmohan Giri told PTI.

    Giri said that provisions related to intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion, deliberate and malicious acts, and Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Act, 2000, have also been invoked, he said. It was alleged that the channel had telecast a programme in which Chavhanke mentioned objectionable content because of which tension prevailed in the city.

    The FIR was registered when the matter was raised during a meeting of the Peace Committee on 9 April, in which prominent citizens pointed to the programme aired between 6 April and 8 April.

    When contacted by PTI, the channel said that it condemned any attempt to suppress and intimidate the media. A statement issued by Chavhanke stated that they condemned any act to suppress and the intimidate the media. To protest against that, he would be reaching Sambhal on 13 April.

    MUMBAI: Post Diwali, six-year-old health and fitness television channel – Care World TV – is expected to go LIVE on its website http://www.careworldtv.com. In so doing, it will become the first global health care TV channel to be simultaneously available online and offline.

     

    Currently in the testing phase of simulcasting its television content on its website, Care World TV is looking to expand audience reach with this initiative. Care World TV managing director Ajit Gupta exults: “With this initiative, we become the first global health care television channel to be simultaneously available both online and offline.”

     

    The channel has already started getting response from countries like Spain, according to ABS 7 Star CMD Atul Saraf, who says: “Even though we haven’t made it LIVE yet, and are still in the testing phase, anyone who comes to our website for information on health or contact details of doctors etc. can see the simulcast of the channel. We are already getting good response from people based in different parts of the world.”

     

    With the simulcast, Care World TV hopes to reach out to a travelling audience as well as the many Indians settled across the globe.

     

    Simulcast apart, the channel is also developing an app to further connect with its audiences to be launched by November. “The app will be ready by month-end. We will then test the app and so, it should be available for free download by November. It will be available on Android and iOS first. We will further expand to other operating systems like Windows,” says Saraf.

     

    According to Gupta: “The app will have an eye-catching interface, with easy functionality, and will cater to the premium market segment.”

     

    Available for free download, the app can be used even if one has slow internet connectivity. “We have put the content on a very low bit rate and so, a person can watch it even with a 256 or 512 mbps internet connection speed,” informs Saraf.

     

    So is the channel looking at monetising its website content? “Well! We haven’t thought of it currently, but we may in future, we are not ruling out the opportunity,” replies Saraf.

     

    TAM weekly TV ratings reveal that Care World TV reaches four to five million viewers every week. “The channel has bridged the gap between functionaries and beneficiaries. With a 24×7 presence on television and now also on the web, the channel provides various formats of programming that include awareness segments, talking heads, panel discussions, in-depth reports, presentations, infomercials, audio visuals, documentaries, bulletins, campaigns etc, in both fiction and non-fiction formats,” says Gupta.

     

    While the channel has taken a bold step in an internet-driven world, only time will tell if the move will help expand its viewer base or eat into its existing television viewership?
