    Colors Tamil to telecast Rai Lakshmi’s ‘Cinderella’ on 27 Feb

    Mumbai: Colors Tamil will telecast the world TV premiere of Rai Lakshmi’s horror film ‘Cinderella’ on 27 February at 7 p.m.

    The film is written and directed by Vinoo Venketesh under the banner SSI Productions and has Rai Lakshmi in the titular role. Sakshi Agarwal, Robo Shankar, Kallori Vinoth and Mohan Raman will also play key roles in the film.

    This gripping thriller follows Akira, a sound engineer, who travels to a hill station to record the sounds of rare birds for a Hollywood project. She finds a Cinderella costume in an antique shop and brings it home and begins to have paranormal experiences. The rest of the film outlines what happens after that, providing ample opportunities for some amazingly funny and thrilling moments

    “I am extremely excited for my movie Cinderella to get its world television premiere in a channel like Colors Tamil,” said actor Rai Lakshmi. “Being a part of this movie gave me immense pleasure. It was great to work alongside Robo Shankar, Sakshi and many more stars for the first time. I hope viewers will enjoy my character as much as I enjoyed filming it.”

    “Cinderella will eternally be close to my heart as it imprints my journey as a filmmaker,” said director Vinoo Venkatesh. “I am excited and overwhelmed that my debut film is going to be watched by a wide spectrum through its world television premiere on Colors Tamil. As a team, we have put in a lot of hard work into this film and I strongly believe that the audience will be able to connect and relate with every character in it.”

    Disney hits $4 billion at global box office in record time; lines up 22 films till 2020

    MUMBAI: Walt Disney Studios has crossed the $4 billion mark at the global box office, beating its previous studio record by nearly six weeks.

     

    As of 7 October, 2015, Disney collected $1.4 billion in the US and Canada and $2.575 billion at in international markets. This is the third consecutive year the studio has breached the $4-billion box office milestone. 

     

    The studio’s revenues in 2015 were driven by the worldwide success of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out, Disney’s Cinderella and Marvel’s Ant-Man.

     

    In addition, Inside Out has crossed the $800 million mark at the global box office. It’s the third highest grossing Pixar film of all time and made its debut in China this week.

     

    Additionally, Walt Disney Studios has also unveiled new and updated release dates for several upcoming projects.

     

    Marvel unveiled Ant-Man and the Wasp, a sequel to this summer’s Ant-Man, which is set for release on 6 July, 2018. Black Panther will now open 16 February, 2018, and Captain Marvel is set for 8 March, 2019. 

     

    Three new films are set for 2020, the titles of which will be revealed at a later date.

     

    Pixar will release Cars 3 on 16 June, 2017, Coco on 22 November, 2017, and The Incredibles 2 on 21 June, 2019. Toy Story 4 will now debut 15 June, 2018. Two new (as-yet-untitled) Pixar films are set for 2020.

     

    Building upon the success of films such as Cinderella and Maleficent, Disney Live Action selected release dates for four fairy tale films in the coming years: one in 2017, one in 2018, and two in 2019.

     

    Next up is The Jungle Book in April 2016, followed by Alice Through the Looking Glass in May and Pete’s Dragon in August.

     

    Finally, Gigantic, a unique take on Jack and the Beanstalk from Walt Disney Animation Studios featuring music from Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, will be released on 9 March, 2018. A new Walt Disney Animation Studios film is set for November 2020 and a new Disneytoon Studios film is due out in April 2019.

    MUMBAI: Disney’s Cinderella crossed the $500 million threshold at the global box office on 6 May 2015. 

     

    Since its stellar $67.8 million domestic debut on 13 March, Cinderella has taken in nearly $195 million and is the third highest grossing film of the year. Its international gross to date is more than $308 million.

     

    Cinderella most recently opened at first position in its final international market, Japan, on 25 April with the biggest opening day and weekend of the year for a Western release, and it remained the top Western release in its second weekend. 

     

    The film enjoyed a phenomenal performance in China with $71.1 million, where it opened with $25 million for the biggest March debut of all time. Other top markets include the UK ($29.2 million), Japan, ($21.6 million), Italy and Australia ($16.5 million each), Brazil ($15.5 million), and Mexico ($15.4 million).

    MUMBAI: Disney’s live-action take on the famous fairytale Cindrella grossed an estimated $ 70.1 million at the North American box office.

     

    The movie starring Lily James has a bigger opening than Disney’s Maleficent ($69.4 million) despite the fact that the 2014 movie has a more famous female lead, Angelina Jolie. Overseas, the film raked in $ 62.4 million for a worldwide total of $132.5 million, reported Ace Showbiz.

     

    Attached to the screenings of Cinderella is animated short Frozen Fever, which features the Frozen (2013) characters. This provided a double dose of family entertainment, especially after a string of R-rated films in recent weeks.

     

    Run All Night, the latest action film starring Liam Neeson, entered the chart at No 2 with an estimated $11 million. It is a weak debut compared to Neeson’s Tak3n, which opened to $39.2 million in January.

    MUMBAI: Disney seems to be successfully cashing out on its fairy tale adaptations. The latest in its list of offerings is a take on Cinderella, named Into the Woods. The Broadway musical which will be helmed by Rob Marshall has attracted a glamorous cast including Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Tracy Ullman and Christine Baranski, all of whom are in various stages of negotiations to be part of the production.

    Disney is also in talks with Anna Kendrick to play the lead Cinderella which will bring the actress back into the screen singing spotlight after her last year‘s surprise hit Pitch Perfect. Disney‘s keen for Kendrick as she has been acting in Broadway musicals from a young age and won several awards.

    The plot revolves around the classic fairy tale wherein a childless baker (Corden) and his wife (Blunt) attempt to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods to confront the witch that put the spell on them. Along the way, they encounter a group of fairy tale characters including Rapunzel, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood.

    In this mashup of the fairy tale, Cinderella will be married to a vain prince (Pine) and be described as a woman trying to find her place in the world.

    Kendrick who is yet to affirm her involvement in the project is currently shooting Richard LaGravenese‘s musical adaptation The Last 5 Years.

    Disney enthusiasts can now order and watch their favourite Disney movie such as Beauty & the Beast, Cinderella, Toy Story 1,2 and 3, Lion King 1 and 2, Tangled, Disney Pixar UP, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, Cars 1,2 and 3 and many more only on Tata Sky for a period of three months.

    The weekday block is available at a price pack of Rs 50 where one feature will be showcased over two days. The weekend block runs from Friday to Sunday at a price pack of Rs 75.
