    MUMBAI: With a growth of 1.29 per cent as compared to last week (49), the English news genre marked the highest opportunity to see (OTS) among all categories in week 50 of Chrome Data Analytics & Media. 

    In the English news genre, Loksabha TV gained the highest OTS with 98.2 per cent in six metros market.

    OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 81 million homes, as reported by Chrome DM, across analogue cable, digital cable and DTH. 

    The second position in the gainer’s list of OTS was grabbed by the English movies genre with the growth of 0.51 per cent in six metros market. Star Movies was the most benefitted channel in this category with 59.5 per cent.

    The third position in the gainers was garnered by the Hindi news genre in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market with 0.20 per cent OTS. DD News gained the highest OTS with 99.6 per cent.

    The infotainment genre was at the fourth position in the list with 0.13 per cent growth and NGC catered to 92 per cent OTS in All India 1 Lakh+ market.

    The fifth position in gainers list was bagged by the Hindi GEC genre with a growth of 0.06 per cent. In this category, Star Utsav topped the OTS chart with 99.5 per cent in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market.

    In the Hindi GEC genre, Star Utsav gained the highest OTS with 99.5 per cent in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market.

    The third position in the gainers was garnered by the Infotainment genre in All India 1 Lakh+ market with 1.03 per cent OTS. NGC gained the highest OTS with 92 per cent.

    The music genre was at the fourth position in the list with 1.01 per cent growth and 9X Jalwa catered to 94.2 per cent OTS in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market.

    The fifth position in gainers list was bagged by the English GEC genre with a growth of 0.96 per cent. In this category, Comedy Central topped the OTS chart with 58.5 per cent in six metros market.

    In the English movies genre, Movies Now gained the highest OTS with 59.3 per cent in six metros market.

    The second position in the gainer’s list of OTS was grabbed by the Infotainment genre with the growth of 0.68 per cent in All India 1 Lakh+ market. NGC was the most benefitted channel in this category with 92 per cent.

    The third position in the gainers was garnered by the Hindi movies genre in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market with 0.41 per cent OTS. Rishtey Cineplex gained the highest OTS with 94.8 per cent.

    The Hindi GEC genre was at the fourth position in the list with 0.19 per cent growth and Rishtey catered to 99.1 per cent OTS in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market.

    DD News garnered the highest OTS in Hindi News genre with 99.8 per cent.

    The English Gec genre stands in second position in the gainers list of OTS with 1.05 per cent; Colors Infinity gained the highest OTS with 59.1 per cent growth in 6 metros market, followed by Kids genre coming in third in the gainers list of OTS with 0.27 per cent in All India 1 Lakh+ market. Nickelodeon gained the highest OTS in the Kids genre with 90.6 per cent.

    MUMBAI: With a growth of 1.07 per cent, the kids genre in all India 1 lakh+, marked the highest opportunity to see (OTS) among all categories in week 46 of Chrome Data Analytics and Media. Discovery garnered the highest OTS in kids’ genre with 90.5 per cent.

    The Hindi news genre came in second in the gainers list of OTS with 0.85 per cent; DD News gained the highest OTS with 99.4 per cent growth in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market, followed by English news genre coming in third in the gainers list of OTS with 0.62 per cent in 6 metros market. Loksabha TV garnered the highest OTS in the English news genre with 98.3 per cent.

    In the Hindi movies genre, Rishtey Cineplex gained the highest OTS with 93.8 per cent in in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market.

    A linear channel goes through multiple layers of distribution intermediaries on ground. 

    The resulting viewership entirely depends on the on-air and off-air status of the channel. The on-air includes the content, break pattern and on-air presentation, whereas the off-air hinges on the marketing and distribution ground connectivity of the channel. With the former being constant much of the linear channel’s performance depends on the latter.

    The recent dip in the performance of the Asia Cup 2018 on Star Sports, great content coupled with the non-availability of Star channels across a major chunk of C&S homes (~52.6 million) in India, is a case in point.  The Asia Cup 2108 was a great king (content) but governed by a poor God (distribution). 

    • 10 per cent drop vis a vis 2016 and an overall drop in audience of 54 million on Star Sports1 
    • 5 per cent drop vis a vis 2016 and an overall drop in audience of 24 million on Star Sports 2 

    The Asia Cup 2018 saw an overall drop of ~45 per cent in viewership compared to Asia Cup 2016, despite seeing a TV universe growth from 168 million to 195million according to Chrome DM’s recently concluded SES survey (Sep 2018). 

    To simply compare the last two tournaments (2016 vis-à-vis 2018) for on-air, there will be ticks for all the factors (table below), indicating that the Asia Cup 2018 was no less a king than it was in 2016 from a content perspective.

    Striking the right balance between content curation and distribution can be a real challenge for broadcasters. Though decisions can be made basis the verdict of the selected barometered homes, however, in-depth studies of ground realities are much required to facilitate strategic decision making.

    Good content, whether in the form of print or TV will always inspire viewers to engage. The audience will always pause to consume, understand and perhaps even comment, like or share provided it reaches the right audience at the right time.

    In the kids genre, Nickelodeon gained the highest OTS with 91 per cent in All India 1 Lakh+ market.

    The third position in the gainers was garnered by the Hindi movies genre in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market with 0.65 per cent OTS. Rishtey Cineplex gained the highest OTS with 94.1 per cent.

    The music genre was at the fourth position in the list with 0.27 per cent growth and 9X Jalwa catered to 94.5 per cent OTS in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market.

    MUMBAI: With a growth of 0.34 per cent as compared to last week (39), the English news genre marked the highest opportunity to see (OTS) among all categories in week 40 of Chrome Data Analytics & Media. 

    In the English news genre, Loksabha TV gained the highest OTS with 97.6 per cent in six metros market.

    OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 81 million homes, as reported by Chrome DM, across analogue cable, digital cable and DTH. This week the list had only three gainers. 

    The second position in the gainer’s list of OTS was grabbed by the English movies genre with the growth of 0.25 per cent in six metros market. Sony Pix was the most benefitted channel in this category with 63.2 per cent.

    The third position in the gainers was garnered by the religious genre in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market with 0.17 per cent OTS. Aastha gained the highest OTS with 97.8 per cent.
