Birla Estates and RCB forge stronger ties with star-studded T20 campaign

MUMBAI: Birla Estates, has launched its much-anticipated Indian T20 2025 campaign, featuring Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Krunal Pandya. With the tagline ‘Every sq.ft. tells a story’, the campaign highlights the dreams, aspirations, and emotions that make every home special.

Taking its association with cricket a step further, Birla Estates is now the principal sponsor of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the upcoming T20 season. This marks the fourth consecutive year of collaboration, reinforcing shared values of excellence, ambition, and perseverance between the brand and the sport.

The campaign, conceptualised by Mccann, features three engaging digital films that draw a compelling parallel between Chinnaswamy Stadium RCB’s iconic home ground and Birla Estates homes. Just as every patch of grass and every square foot of ground at Chinnaswamy has witnessed unforgettable moments, every square foot of a Birla home holds priceless memories encapsulated in the campaign’s core message, Storiespersqft.

One of the campaign’s standout films showcases Kohli executing a stunning mid-air catch, with the voiceover stating, “To feel superhuman. just 5 sq.ft.” Another features Kohli and Krunal exchanging a fist bump while running between the wickets, with the tagline, “To become great partners. it takes 22 yards.” These visuals cleverly reinforce the idea that significant moments don’t require vast spaces—just meaningful ones.

Birla Estates head of marketing Anitha Krishnan stated, “Our long-standing partnership with RCB has evolved over the seasons, and we take immense pride in being the principal sponsor, with our brand prominently displayed on the players’ jerseys. This placement reflects our deep commitment to cricket as a platform that resonates with our audience. Our campaign is an extension of our larger corporate vision—one that goes beyond building structures to creating spaces that tell meaningful stories. Just as every cricketing milestone represents years of dedication and achievement, every home becomes a backdrop for life’s most cherished moments. Through this campaign, we aim to create a strong emotional connection with homebuyers—aligning their aspirations with the journey of cricketers. It beautifully blends the passion for cricket with the pride of homeownership—two defining milestones in Indian culture.”

RCB COO Rajesh Menon added, “We are delighted to continue our association with Birla Estates as a valued member of the RCB family. Their commitment to excellence and innovation mirrors the ethos of our team. Together, we aim to elevate the fan experience and create unforgettable memories both on and off the field. This partnership is a testimony to our shared vision of inspiring and engaging millions of cricket enthusiasts.”

Last year, Birla Estates’ T20 campaign generated 41.3 million impressions and reached over 10 million fans. As the 2025 season unfolds, cricket lovers can look forward to an exciting line-up of games, digital activations, and engaging initiatives—all driven by this powerful collaboration.

  • How to save crores from awful sports outfields

How to save crores from awful sports outfields

BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has generally been early adopters of technology in the country. Going one up, the association that has its own cricket league series has installed the first drainage system on a cricket field at the famed Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. The KSCA bigwigs say that the system is next-generation subsurface aeration and vacuum-powered drainage system from SubAir, USA at Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bangalore), making it the first ever installation of such a technology for cricket stadiums worldwide.

KSCA VP Sudhakar Rao said, “This is KSCA’s latest project in our constant endeavor to introduce cutting edge technologies in the interest of the game and the fans. Everyone understands that when it rains, it is an act of God…but once it stops raining, it will be inexcusable to delay or cancel a game due to a wet outfield. With this high-tech solution from SubAir, fastest resumption of the game is now possible.”

“Match called off / delayed at Chinnaswamy Stadium due to wet outfield”. This headline which appeared quite often will soon be a thing of the past. Welcome to the next-generation cricket outfield say the officials. A demonstration involving a small section of the field with about 5,000 litres of water showed the drainage system drain off the water in less than a minute. SubAir is looking at ways to minimise due once day-night test matches start.

KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya said, “This technology makes tremendous economic and financial sense for KSCA and many games will be saved in the future”.

The system at about Rs 5 crore is not too expensive when one considers the crores of rupees that include television ad and other revenues that are lost due to just one match being called off due to wet outfields. Probably just the entry ticket revenue of a couple of matches will be enough to pay off for complete installation including revamping of the field.

KSCA VP Sanjay Desai further added, “Fan experience is our primary objective. Additionally, there is a risk of Rs 80-100 crore (US$ 12-15 Million) when a game gets washed out including losses to the paying public, the TV Broadcasters and advertisers, in-stadia advertisers etc. We believe we have addressed this challenge with the SubAir System”.

Great Sports Infra managing director Anil Kumar said, “We are glad to provide the SubAir aeration and water evacuation technology to KSCA, which will make it the most modern outfield in the cricketing world. Considering that millions of dollars are at risk when a match gets cancelled due to a wet outfield, KSCA has shown great vision in pioneering the use of this next generation technology. Many other cricket stadiums are now interested in adopting the same for their modernization plans.”

SubAir Sr VP Kevin Crowe said, “SubAir has proven itself across various sports like Baseball, Soccer, Rugby, Golf etc. This system is used at some of the best stadiums worldwide including Wembley (UK), New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, BMO Field (Canada), Etihad Stadium (Manchester City) etc., and has over 500 installations. It has also been used for the NFL, 2014 FIFA World Cup (Brazil) and would also be in use in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia (2018).”

Currently there is no scientific measurement of actionable data related to salinity, temperature and moisture content. The SubAir system acquires data from all over the field through embedded wireless sensors and then takes appropriate corrective action keeping the field healthy and in optimal conditions, fostering stronger roots and turf.

RCB signs a deal with Spoment Ventures

BANGALURU: To make itself a 365-day brand rather than one that is in the limelight just for 45 days, the IPL franchise – Royal Challengers Bangalore – has brought on board specialist sports management agency, Spoment Ventures, a Singapore headquartered agency that focuses on sports and entertainment business.

The first property under the new deal has already been rolled out as RCB Corporate Cricket Championship, which will have many innovations that will differentiate it from other corporate matches. The final of the tournament will be played at the famed Chinnaswamy Stadium. To give the tournament an edge over others, one RCB player can be substituted for semi finals and finals.

Spoment plans to make it an annual property which will keep growing in stature and size every year. This time, the trump card or super sub is legendary spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan. Corporate teams will have the right to use Muralitharan for one over during the match if they wish.

Spoment director Ashok Karanth said in a release, “To make RCB a 365-day brand, we will create numerous properties to engage with corporate audiences, youth and families using sports lifestyle as a platform.”

The agency is also studying the ticketing and corporate hospitality business model of RCB to help the team increase its revenues from the operations.

It seems the IPL teams don’t want to lose out on any front and thus they have already started creating the buzz before the next IPL season kicks off.
