    Dentsu Aegis Network appoints Cheuk Chiang to lead Greater North business in APAC

    MUMBAI:  Dentsu Aegis Network announces the appointment of Cheuk Chiang to the role of CEO, Greater North, Dentsu Aegis Network APAC, effective 2 December. Based in Shanghai, China, and reporting to Ashish Bhasin, CEO, Dentsu Aegis Network APAC, Cheuk will oversee Dentsu Aegis Network China, Dentsu Aegis Network Hong Kong, Dentsu Aegis Network Taiwan and Dentsu Aegis Network Korea. He will also join the Dentsu Aegis Network APAC Executive team.

    The appointment follows the announcement of the simplified three-cluster structure in March this year, which was put in place to further operationalise our markets, giving them the autonomy to react to client needs. This allows our businesses to deliver more strategic and market-specific initiatives at pace and scale.

    Cheuk takes over from Takaki Hibino who was overseeing Greater North in the interim. He will now focus on his role as Executive Chairman, Dentsu Aegis Network APAC.

    India thrives at APAC Effie Awards 2016, taking the top awards

    MUMBAI: Indian emerged as a major winner at the APAC Effie Awards 2016 awards, with Indian agencies taking away several awards at the Awards Gala last night at Intercontinental Singapore, celebrating Asia Pacific’s most effective marketing campaigns.

    Mullen Lowe Lintas Group, India was named APAC Effie 2016 Agency of the Year, bagging 8 metals, while BBDO India’s ‘Share The Load’ campaign for Procter and Gamble took home the grand Effie. 

    Going by metals tally, Colenso BBDO/Proximity was running behind with three agencies in the tie for the third place, BBDO India, Barnes Catmur and Friends Dentsu and Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai.

    On the network level, BBDO Worldwide took the lead, with a total haul of 17 metal awards followed by Ogilvy & Mather and Mullen Lowe Group coming in the second and third position respectively.

    Two new Special Awards were added this year – Brand of the Year and Marketer of the Year to recognise the joint efforts and close collaboration between clients and agencies to produce successful work. The awards were presented to Ariel Matic and Procter & Gamble respectively with their entry ‘Ariel – Share The Load’ being the best of show for the night, clinching the Grand Effie, on top of a Gold and a Silver. These Special Awards are accorded based on the points received on all winners and finalists.

    The Awards Gala attended by some 200 industry professionals presented a total of 66 Effies – One Grand Effie, 12 Golds, 21 Silvers and 32 Bronzes.

    As in previous years, India remains the strongest market in the region on the effectiveness stage, contributing the highest number of metal winners last night. Following in the ranking were New Zealand and Australia.

    Congratulating the winners, Effie Awards 2016 Chairman Cheuk Chiang said:”It is a massive acknowledgement. To get here having gone through two rigorous rounds of judging by a stellar team of industry professionals is a significant and incredible achievement and indeed something to be proud of. These winning cases represent the best in Asia Pacific and I hope they only serve to inspire the industry further in producing great work that drive real business results.”

    Organised by the Confederation of Asian Advertising Agency Associations (CAAAA) and Tenasia Group, the APAC Effie Awards honour the region’s most outstanding marketing communication works that have proven results in meeting strategic objectives.

    Winners and finalists will contribute points towards the ranking on the 2016 Effie Effectiveness Index, the global ranking which identifies and ranks the most effective marketers, brands by analyzing finalist and winner data from worldwide Effie competitions.

    MUMBAI: The Asia Pacific Effie Awards has named three more heads of Jury for the 2016 Awards in FCB Worldwide vice chairman – global Nagesh Alai, SK-II global brand director Sandeep Seth and McDonalds CVP digital, growth & foundation markets Richard Murphy .

     

    Alai has been part of the APAC Effie Jury for the past two years and is currently a member of the APAC Effie Committee. A key force behind the Group’s sound fundamentals & success, he has been with FCBUlka Group for 25 years now. Between 2006 and 2011, FCB Worldwide handed over to Alai the finance and operational responsibilities of Asia Pacific & Africa region and prior to his recent assignment, he was group chairman of FCBUlka Group in India.

     

    He is also actively involved with the industry having been the president of Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) from 2010 to 2012. He currently serves as an executive member of the Confederation of Asian Advertising Agency Associations (CAAAA), various committees of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI).

     

    Alai said, “Advertising is all about creating awareness about a brand and triggering a behavioural change in the consumer. Effies platform recognises this truism. Hence, it’s an honour to be associated with APAC Effies it as a Head of Jury and help in selecting the best of the best advertising in the region.”

     

    Seth has almost two decades of marketing experience across nine countries in APAC and Greater China, and a deep expertise in the Beauty and Prestige industry. He currently heads SK-II’s global marketing and commercial operations. He is also leading P&G Asia’s marketing talent rejuvenation movement.

     

    “I feel extremely honoured to be on a Head of Jury for APAC Effie. Brands and advertising is a huge passion area. We are in a new era of advertising as the digital revolution has completely transformed how brands and consumers interact. It is an exciting time and I am looking forward to be inspired by the great work that everyone has been leading in the industry,” Seth said.

     

    Murphy, with a brief to drive digital transformation at a market level, covers some 90+ countries across the globe and includes setting and aligning the agenda for digital, ensuring that markets are clear about the expectations the business has of them and to help drive a modern approach with customers.

     

    “I am delighted to be invited as a Head of Jury for APAC Effie. Effectiveness is the core of the advertising business and what we strive to achieve. I’m glad to play a part in Effies in championing marketing effectiveness and am excited to see the great works from the region,” Murphy added.

     

    This completes the Heads of Jury line-up for the 2016 Awards.

     

    Awards chairman Cheuk Chiang said, “I’m absolutely convinced that with such a distinguished and experienced group of practitioners, the Effies in APAC will redefine and set new standards for effectiveness. It comes at a time when marketers want greater accountability and stronger results but fail to do this consistently.     Michelle Guthrie & Anthony Wong to head APAC Effie Awards 2016 jury

    MUMBAI: Asia Pacific Effie Awards has named Michelle Guthrie and Anthony Wong as the first two heads of jury for the 2016 awards.

     

    Google managing director APAC Guthrie is responsible for driving the company’s strategy and relationships with marketing and advertising agencies across Asia. Prior to joining Google in Singapore in 2011, Guthrie was managing director and senior advisor of Providence Equity Partners from 2007 to 2009. She has held several key executive positions, culminating as CEO from 2003 to 2007 since she began her career in Asia at News Corp’s Star.

     

    “I am delighted to join the APAC Effie as a Head of Jury and review some of the best marketing works in Asia Pacific. I look forward to a very stimulating experience while sharing my perspectives and playing a role in driving marketing effectiveness in the region,” Guthrie said.

     

    On the other hand, Wong is Ogilvy & Mather Group worldwide effectiveness director and WPP global client leader – team Huawei. Since he joined Ogilvy in 2006, he has helped his teams and clients achieve best-selling brand and product launches across categories and borders, and win marketing effectiveness awards. Over the years he has also served in various roles at the China EFFIE and APAC Effie Awards.

     

    Wong said, “I am honoured and excited to be appointed a Head of Jury at the APAC Effies, as I believe Asia Pacific should, and will, set new global standards for effectiveness.”

     

    2016 Awards chairman Cheuk Chiang added, “With experience comes great wisdom so it’s fantastic that the Effie Awards have been able to attract high calibre, seasoned experts like Michelle and Anthony.     APAC Effie Awards 2016 names Omnicom’s Cheuk Chiang as awards chairman

    MUMBAI: Asia Pacific Effie Awards has named Omnicom Media Group CEO, Asia Pacific Cheuk Chiang the 2016 Awards chairman.

     

    Chiang oversees the global media and communications network in Asia Pacific, with brands like OMD, PHD and M2M that have been built on strong cultures of creativity and innovation.

     

    Chiang’s career to date spans across account management, strategy planning and agency management roles in creative, direct marketing, digital and media agencies over the past 23 years.

     

    Prior to joining Omnicom Media Group, Chiang had a long spell as the managing director of CumminsNitro in Australia and was recognised as one of the top executives in the region. He joined PHD as CEO for Asia Pacific in 2008 and had led the agency in achieving numerous milestones and awards year-on-year. Chiang was subsequently appointed as CEO, Asia pacific for Omnicom Media Group in 2013. Under his leadership and vision, OMD and PHD continues to grow progressively.

     

    “It is an honour to be invited to chair the APAC Effie Awards this year. Having been involved in the APAC Effie, I am very impressed with the efforts Effie has in place to uphold and celebrate high standards in marketing effectiveness.     OMD ropes in MEC’s Stephen Li as Asia Pacific CEO

    MUMBAI: OMD has appointed Stephen Li to lead the Asia Pacific region as its CEO. Li will replace Steve Blakeman, OMD’s current regional CEO who will be relocating to OMD in London in a senior, global role.

     

    Li’s appointment will be effective from October 2015.

     

    Li will be joining OMD from MEC where he is currently the regional CEO for Asia Pacific. Li has over two decades of experience in advertising, media and marketing communications. After holding senior roles with Batey and Lowe, and a role heading up WPP’s team HSBC in the region, Li moved to the media side of the business with MEC in 2005, where he quickly established a reputation of delivering profitability, efficiency and building a culture of positive change.

     

    Omnicom Media Group CEO Asia Pacific Cheuk Chiang said, “We conducted an extensive and intensive search across the region to find OMD’s next leader, someone who is not only experienced, but capable of taking the OMD brand to the next level.
