Faisal Khan to debut in ‘Chausath Panne’

MUMBAI: Not so long ago, Zee TV President Apurva Purohit had told indiantelevision.com that Chausath Panne was a programme where the entry point was the female of the household.

True to its tradition, here comes the third story of the series titled Aandhi starting 16 November. Aandhi is a story which happens to umpteen girls in real life all over India- a traditional girl Chandni (Simone Singh) torn between Varun whom she loves (Ayub Khan) and her father (Shishir Sharma) who rejects her choice.

The earlier two series were Dil Na Jaane Kyon and Manshaa. For the third, Manish Goswami’s Siddhant Cinevision has taken on the mantle of production, Rakesh Sarang has donned the director’s hat, Vinod Ranganath has penned the script.

Aandhi will see Aamir Khan’s brother Faisal Khan making his debut on television. Faisal plays Siddhant- a happy succesful man any girl would be happy to marry but not Chandni.

Speaking at a media meet, today afternoon, Faisal had no qualms in confessing that he has taken to television because he has not been able to make a mark in films so far. “If I wait any longer, I think I will miss all my buses to prove myself as an actor. I signed some wrong scripts and some films didn’t do well owing to bad marketing. I have done some plays in the recent past, but have decided to try my hand at television, which has a much wider reach.”

“Unlike films, television can make me a household name. I have no ego and will approach producers for roles. I will put my best put forward,” he remarked.

So far, Faisal has acted in Madhosh, Mela, Kaaboo and Border Hindustan Ka and Basti. All were box-office turkeys. He still has three films in his kitty- Chand Bujh Gaya, Dushmani and Paltan.

Says Faisal, “The character of Siddhanth excited me. It’s very close to what I am- a cool, calm guy. Chandni’s dad insists upon her that she should get married to me and not Varun.”

Kiran Kumar who claimed that he had a very important role to play in this series was also present, “I come into this story only after five episodes. There is a very strong bonding between Chandni and myself. How we meet, how it happens and where do we go from there, I am surely not going to spill the beans on that.” Kumar is currently working with Manish Goswami on Kittie Party as well.

Ayub Khan chipped in, “My role has a few negative shades. That’s the reason why Chandni’s dad does not approve of me.” Goswami sounded quite confident that he has a powerful story in his hands which would emerge a winner. To a query as to why he has opted for an overdone ‘love triangle’ theme, he answered, “So what? That way, all permutations and combinations have been done and overdone. The characterisation and the treatment is different. That will count in our favour.”

Explaining why he chose Singh as the protagonist, he stated, “I need an innocent face. Singh fit the requirements to a T.”

Singh was conspicious by her absence as she was out of town. The charming actor has recently become the first Indian television star to be a presenter at the International Emmys, scheduled to be held at New York’s Hilton Hotel on 24 November this year.

  • ‘Dil Na Jaane Kyun’ high on Zee’s popular shows

‘Dil Na Jaane Kyun’ high on Zee’s popular shows

MUMBAI: Dil Na Jaane Kyun, the first leaf out of Zee’s innovative Chausath Panne, which is poised to reach an unexpected climax in a couple of weeks, has climbed to number two in the channel’s top shows.

According to Zee officials and Dil Na.. production house FilmFarm, the show ranks a close second to Astitva – Ek Prem Kahani, the Niki Aneja- Varun Badola starrer. Both shows have consciously kept away from the typical saas-bahu oriented family drama and explore untouched themes. While Astitva probes the relationship between a doctor and a husband who is younger than her, Dil Na dwells on the touching relationship between mother -in-law and daughter-in-law after the son dies.

Sanjay Upadhyaya, who has earlier directed Saaya for Sony, will take over the next edition of Chausath Panne when Dil Na finishes its course. At a party to mark the success of Dil Na, producer Pintoo Guha, who had an eight year stint with UTV before branching out on his own, said the show was initially conceived as a weekly but later adapted to suit the Chausath Panne slot. Zee’s internal research had shown that viewers were now looking for serials with a finite number of episodes, he said.

Zee has now contracted Guha to do some more shows for the channel and Guha believes that although channels may be constrained to slash budgets after the implementation of conditional access, good content will rule programming in the coming months and consequently, channels would be loath to cutting costs at random.

Zee announces line-up for Thursdays, Sundays

MUMBAI: Zee TV has announced a new movie line-up for its Thursday Premiere initiative with films such as Makdee, Leela, Agnivarsha, Mitr, among others. On the eve of Valentine’s Day, Zee TV will premiere Telephoto Entertainment’s feature film Mitr starring Shobhana.

According to information available with indiantelevision.com, Zee will also be soon launching Vishwas, a social thriller in the afternoon slot.

Zee’s new concept of Chausath Panne, will have serials running for only 64 episodes. Over and above this initiative, Zee will also have serials, which will be of four episodes each. The strategy is to give the audience tautly made programmes thus retaining the interest level.

Jay Mehta Productions has started shooting for the new serial, Vishwas, which will be slotted in the afternoon band. The serial stars Vijayendra Ghatge, Gautam Chaturvedi, Anang Desai, Raju Kher, Usha Bachani amongst others. Jay Mehta is awaiting the exact telecast timings during which the serial will be aired.

“Zee has pioneered the concept of airing movies coinciding with their theatrical release, it is this element of recentness, which is responsible for the success of the initiative. Acquiring films in an ongoing process, especially since the channel is looking at the factor of recentness. We are in the process of selecting additional films for the coming months,” says Zee TV president Apurva Purohit.

Mitr, produced by Telephoto Entertainment ( a company promoted by Revathy and T Suresh Chandra Menon) has renowned theatre artist Nasir Abdullah and Shobhana in an offbeat role, which comes out with a lot of punch.

Mitr depicts the life of an Indian housewife who lives with her husband abroad and has lost her own identity amid household responsibilities and daily chores. The movie is an attempt to communicate that there are ways to come up trumps in adverse circumstances, and that love has no barriers. The movie is all about love, responsibilities and emotions, which signify Valentine’s Day.
