    Channel V organises live karaoke session activating new show ‘Ishq Unplugged’

    MUMBAI: Channel V’s new fiction show Ishq Unplugged launched this week on 7 March at 7:30 pm. The show has a unique setting; backdrop of a singing competition called ‘India’s Star Duo’. Unlike other fiction shows which rely mostly on heavy drama this show will have a perfect mix of singing, romance and drama to keep the youth hooked on. The main leads for the show are not just good actors but talented singers as well. The main leads Mandy played by Mohit Gaur and Antara enacted by Shruti Prakash portray singing hopefuls. The romance between two completely opposite characters plays out on the backdrop of the reality show which they want to win for their own reasons. The show airs every Monday to Friday at 7.30 pm.

    To let the viewer’s experience the essence of the show, Channel V organized an on ground activation – ‘Live Karaoke Session’ with the show leads at a famous coffee shop in Versova, Mumbai. The participants had the opportunity to sing and have fun with the stars and also win some exciting goodies while they were at it. The Karaoke activity has also been activated for 5 days across select coffee shops in Mumbai & Delhi.Kick-starting the activity on the 11th March 2016, the lead cast swayed the audience with a live musical performance on the title track of Ishq Unplugged. Joining in the gusto of karaoke session, the audiences crooned a few notes as well.

    Speaking on the Karaoke session activity, Mohit Gaur commented to say, “Ishq Unplugged is a show that brings together an unlikely singing pair who are from completely different worlds. It a show that is a mix of singing and a great storyline that fans will love! I love interacting with the public and Karaoke was a great way to meet them. The Karaoke activity was a fun experiment from the start and hope for many more such ways to meet the audience face to face”

    Shruti Prakash, the female lead of Ishq Unplugged shared saying, “The Karaoke session with the fans was truly a memorable experience. Ishq Unplugged seeks to showcase great singing within an exciting storyline. I was glad at receiving positive reviews about the show from our avid fans”

    The live karaoke session was abuzz with excitement as fans got to perform along with the Ishq Unplugged duo. The title song brought in a number of people to participate to try their best rendition of the song whilst Mohit and Shruti stood beside them clapping with encouragement!

    In addition to the show, Channel V’s dance fiction show D4 –  Get Up And Dance (Mon-Fri 7PM), SaddaHaq – Season 2 (Mon-Sat 6:30pm), Teen crime show ‘Gumrah’: End of Innocence (Sunday 7pm) and action-packed romantic drama showcasing two lifetimes Mastaangi (Mon–Sat 6pm) continue to be on air.     The romance between two completely opposite characters plays out on the backdrop of the reality show, which they want to win for their own reasons.

    Main leads of the show are played by Mohit Gaur and Shruti Prakash who essay the roles of Mandy and Antara respectively. Mandy’s character hails from a middle class background from Delhi. Even though he is an exceptional singer, Mandy faces opposition from his family to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a famous singer in the entertainment world. Although Mandy is deserving of success, his notions to achieving stardom is rife with trying any means to get what he wants, by hook or by crook.

    Antara, on the other hand, faces a different circumstance. Daughter of a very famous singer, she is also blessed with a beautiful voice. Her Mother wants Antara to follow her footsteps rather than create her own identity. This competition is the stage to launch her career.

    Speaking about the show, a Star spokesperson said, “Like dance, music and reality shows are a big pull for the youth; this is the first time we have a fiction show, which is a potent combination of music and romance on the backdrop of a reality show. With a fair share of singing and performances along with drama, this unique offering is going to something fresh for the youth to savour and enjoy.”

    The channel has chalked out a marketing strategy to support the show with high decibel promotions across multiple platforms.

    MUMBAI: Star India’s youth and music destination Channel V is all geared up to add two new shows to its programming mix from February to March. 

    The channel will launch a new show titled D4- Get Up and Dance and is produced by Edge Storm Ventures LLP. The show will sport a new cast and story-line and will launch on 22 February and will be aired from Monday to Friday in the 7 pm time band.

    The show is a mélange of drama, romance and sheds light on the life of a young girl named Baby, who is a skilled dancer but however keeps her dancing skills a secret as a result of her parents’ disapproval. The lead’s life is turned upside down after she meets her dance idol Mikhail and decides to join his dance troupe leaving everything aside. While her talent continues to shine, romance blooms as Baby falls in love with Mikhail despite knowing the fact that he is emotionally secluded.

    Speaking on the show, Channel V business head Kevin Vaz said, “Channel V has always been at the forefront of delivering content that appeals to the youngsters. We introduced the youth to dance based fiction shows and continue to own that space, our new show D4 – Get Up and Dance will captivate audiences by showcasing energy bursting performances on the back of a romantic story.”

    Sources close to the development inform Indiantelevision.com that the channel is also coming up with a new fiction show titled Ishq Unplugged starring Mohit Gaur and Shruti Prakash, which is produced by Panorama Entertainment. The show is slated to go on air from 7 March in the early prime time band of 7:30 pm. The love story is set on the background of a singing reality show where the two leads fall in love during the contest. It will depict their love story with a singing twist.

    NEW DELHI: Even as the Supreme Court has referred the curative plea on homosexuality to a five-judge bench, which will re-examine the two-year-old verdict by which a colonial law, criminalising consensual sexual acts between the same sex under section 377 of IPC, a web series called All About Section 377 by director Amit Khanna will be aired shortly.

    Khanna, who had directed Tutiya Dil and Badmashiyaan has already brought out a promo reflecting the joys and sorrows of people who have different sexual preferences and how they cope up with the society.

    All About section 377 is written and directed by Amit Khanna, who is also an ace photographer.

    The web series consists of eight episodes, which is produced by Weirdoze and the Creative Gypsy. It features Gulshan Nain who played the lead in Channel V’s Show Friends Conditions Apply, Ankit Bhatia, Mustafa Shaikh and Khanna himself.

    The promo leaves a strong message by planting a serious thought in the minds of every individual. The promo is aimed to hit hard to a lot of Homophobic people and their phobia just might come to an end.

    Khanna said, “The existence of Section 377 itself is frightening. How does someone else get to decide how, when and who, one should love? Basically the right of ‘freedom of choice’ isn’t legal anymore…”

    Apart from the concept of the series, what is interesting to see is that celebrities like Niranjan Iyengar, Iris Maity and Suzanna Mukherjee will be seen in cameos.

    Channel V’s ‘Gumrah’ is first TV series to be adapted into book

    MUMBAI: Channel V’s crime television series, Gumrah – The End of Innocence, has become the first television series to be adapted into a book.

     

    The book titled – Gumrah has been written by Ira Trivedi and was unveiled by Chetan Bhagat in Mumbai on 27 January.

     

    Priced at Rs 195, the book has been published by Rupa Publications and will be available across key retails outlets as well as digitally in the form of an e-book.

     

    With a foreword by Bhagat, the book has 11 gripping short stories, wherein each story tells a tale and unravels the consequences of wrong choices made by innocent teens. 

     

    Talking about the book launch, Channel V business head Kevin Vaz said, “Gumrah is not just a show; it’s a brand in itself. Over the past few years it has gained in stature and is revered by youngsters. It redefined the way in which we looked at teen crime in the country. Even parents ask their teenage children to watch Gumrah so that they can be better prepared to face the uncertainties of the current environment. The purpose of the book is the same; it just gives us another avenue to engage with the youth who can now consume the content in a different form.

     

    “The stories featured in this book are powerful, touching and gripping all at the same time. They are not only entertaining, but they are also important – they were important to write and they are important to read, and I do hope young Indians everywhere read this book. Many of the stories are chilling, gruesome and even horrific– they are based on true incidents and the book is telling of our times,” added Trivedi.

     

    The book is written with a view to help teens differentiate between perception and reality of the real world. The show is focused towards appealing to the young, vulnerable and impressionable minds of India.
