  • iRealties-Apson present ‘Sheikh Chilli’ on Discovery, Shoojit leads next project

    MUMBAI: Not long ago, iRealities Entertainment made history with the blockbuster 3D animated movie “Chaar Sahibzaade” with heart-touching story-telling. They are now set to recreate the same magic with cutting edge animation in partnership with Apson Entertainment to bring you ‘Sheikh Chilli and Friendz’ to be aired on Discovery Kids.

    iRealities has been successful in bringing two powerful forces of rich multimedia content and technology together to deliver several successful projects.

    The new series is loosely based on ‘Sheikh Chilli’s the comic legend from Lotpot, the comic magazine from Mayapuri Group. Sheikh ‘Chilli and Friendz’ is about a kind-hearted simpleton Sheikh Chilli and his adventures with his friends. It all begins one day when Sheikh Chilli stumbles upon a Genie. It is that day when life changes and becomes full of adventures for him and his friends.

    There are several primary characters in the film like Sheikh Chilli, the talking donkey, genie, witch and her talking broom and many more. The characters are based in the modern world and are well equipped with technology so that kids of this generation can connect to it. The script has been worked and reworked by some eminent writers and filmmakers of the film industry.

    iRealities CEO Prasad Ajgaonkar says, “Today’s kids are very different from the way you and I grew up. They are far more inquisitive and challenge the norms. They are independent young individuals that demand to be entertained and enjoy newness all the time. We have worked very cautiously and precisely, to shape up and create each character and make it likeable and relatable to this new generation. There is absolutely no compromise in terms of quality. We have used hair, fur and minute texturing to bring out the feel of each character in a strong way so that the whole look is quite distinct then the usual content being broadcast on TV.”

    Earlier, iRealities had created an animation movie of the same name that had been released in Hindi and Tamil. The company had executed the entire project right from scripting, character design, animation production to post production and final creation of the film.

    iRealities is currently working on three animated feature films to be released in 2017. One of the projects is the animated film Durga – The Epic. The company is also collaborating to produce another animation film with reputed director Shoojit Sircar at the directorial helm.

    iRealities must be one of the few companies that has technology strength, creative strength, animation and content strength under one roof.

    MUMBAI: The week saw two releases, both sequels. Force 2, a sequel to Force (2011) with John Abraham, a narcotics department cop going on an international assignment, where it was almost as if the action director was in charge. Tum Bin 2, a sequel to Tum Bin (2001) which saw a fair success, thanks to its musical score, was more like a remake of the same film rather than a sequel, albeit with inferior music.

    Both took the audience for granted and paid heavily.

    *Indian films have followed a certain formula when one said the film has ‘something for everybody’ like romance, music, comedy and drama. Action was incidental. In a frenzy to copy fast paced Hollywood films, where much of the enhancement coming from special effects, as in little to do with on the sets filming and more to do with on the table filmmaking, the films emerge one dimensional. Force 2 is an extreme example. It sheds all that is formula and vends only action. Actions sans emotional backing falls flat and that is what seems to have happened to Force 2.

    The film had an average opening of about Rs 5.5 crore with no appreciation as the film has nothing to appreciate, it ended its opening weekend with Rs 18.75 crore.

    *Tum Bin 2, coming as it does after 15 years since its first version, palms off the same story it did earlier. Right, the generation has changed but so have tastes. Also, at 2 hours 21 minute of running time and new faces to carry it through, was asking for too much. While the earlier version had a music to relish, this one lacks in this department.

    The film opened to very poor response as the first day figures at the box office being in lakhs, it failed to show much improvement over the weekend to end its first weekend with Rs 2.4 crore.

    *Rock On 2, a sequel to Rock On (2008) was a muddled film idea. Forgetting to keep up with its title and pack some music to hum, it peddled a convoluted story with multiple threads failing to tie it together in the end. Meeting with poor opening and negative word of mouth, it ended its first week with a disastrous Rs 8.45 crore.

    *Chaar Sahibzaade (3-D: Animation) rates in total loss category.

    *Dongri Ka Raja spelt disaster with about Rs 30 lakh for its opening week.

    *Ae Dil Hai Mushkil added about Rs 4.1 crore in its third week taking its three week total to Rs 100.7 crore.

    *Shivaay has added Rs 2.6 crore in its third week to take its three week tally to Rs 84.1 crore.

In most cases, the sequel has nothing to do with the original, content-wise and, when there is some connection, the content is poor. Both the releases of the week, Rock On II and Chaar Sahibzaade: Rise Of Banda Singh Bahadur, are sequels.

    Both have met with a miserable fate at the box office. There was an added factor of the demonetization of the currency notes of Rs 500 and 1,000 which affected all businesses including cinema which is not really a priority in such a situation. The situation may even lead to the postponement of one or two films due for release soon.

    *Rock On II, sequel to the 2008 film Rock On, lacked in just about every department, be it script, content, romance and, mainly, music; not a single song worth humming considering this is a musical. With all these aspects being poor, the film’s length of 139 minute becomes telling on the viewer.

    The film had a poor opening on day one, showed little improvement on Saturday as well as on Sunday ending its first weekend with Rs 6.2 crore. The number of shows per screen have been reduced today onwards.

    *Chaar Sahibzaade: Rise Of Banda Singh Bahadur (3-D: Animation) takes forward the story of the merciless killing of four sons of Guru Gobind Sikh, the tenth Sikh Guru. The Guru decides to end the tradition of guru and, instead, appoints one of his disciples, Banda Singh, to carry out certain tasks to safeguard the sect. Rather than get to the story, the film takes too much time getting into repeating the story from the first part and, a 134 minute animation film is stretching it thin.

    The film fell much short of its first part and the collections remained in lakhs through the weekend.

    *Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, with nil opposition, managed to collect Rs 20.4 crore in its second week taking its two week total to Rs 98.6 crore.

    *Shivaay managed to rake in Rs 16.4 crore in its second week as the film’s vigorous promotion continued and there were no major releases for a choice for the moviegoer. The film takes its two week tally to Rs 81.5 crore.

    ‘The Badlapur Boys’ manage Rs 50 lakh at the BO

    MUMBAI: The first sports film on the traditional Indian sport Kabaddi, The Badlapur Boys shows some figures worth its while collecting about Rs 50 lakh for the opening weekend.

     

    Main Aur Mr Right found no favour with the audience. Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain, a docudrama on the 1984 Bhopal gas leak tragedy, does too little too late. The film is just a past memory for most and it puts together just about Rs 1.25 crore in its first week. Sulemani Keeda has failed badly.

     

    Ungli has added Rs 60 lakh to its collections in second week taking its two week tally to Rs 15.4 crore. Zid has collected Rs 35 lakh in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 6.25 crore.

     

    Action Jackson, though counted among major productions, has failed miserably. The film with worse than mediocre content, opened badly not surprisingly ending its first week Rs 46.15 crore.

     

    Happy Ending ended its third week run with not such a happy ending. Kill/Dil managed to add Rs 10 lakh in its fourth week to take its four week tally to Rs 33.97 crore.

     

    Chaar Sahibzaade (Punjabi) is set to emerge as the biggest regional grosser of the recent times.

    ‘Action Jackson’ reports Rs 29.1 crore at BO

    MUMBAI: Action Jackson has proved to be one of the worst films, content wise and the opening response has been poor for a top star film. The film has been able to put together a poor Rs 29.1 crore for its opening weekend.

    Sulemani Keeda too failed to find audience. Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain collected a symbolic Rs 70 lakh in its first weekend at the box office.

    Ungli has been poor; managing just Rs 14.8 crore in its first week at the box office. Zid which collected Rs 5.9 crore for its first week, is poor.

    Zed Plus, a satire on security to VIPs has failed to create ripples as it collects a poor Rs 55 lakh in its first week.

    Happy Ending too has failed miserably. The film has collected Rs 1.25 crore in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 14.75 crore.

    Chaar Sahibzaade continued to be rock steady as it added Rs 7.7 crore in its fourth week to take its four week total to Rs 30.8 crore.

    Kill/Dil has run its course adding just Rs 30 lakh in its third week taking its three week total to Rs 33.87 crore.

    MUMBAI: The week’s major release was Yash Raj’s Kill/ Dil, a very average fare which opened to poor response. Looks like the film may do its best only during the opening weekend with its solo release status being an advantage and not sustain thereafter. The film has managed to collect Rs 20.18 crore for its first three days.

    Chaar Sahibzaade (animation) has done very well in Punjab and has collected Rs 3.75 crore in its first week.

    Last week’s release, The Shaukeens, has not been able to fare well.  A disappointing remake of the 1982 classic by Basu Chatterjee, Shaukeen, and the film falls flat because of poor transcribing and adaption. The film manages about Rs 18.5 crore for its first week.

    Rang Rasiya has not been able to sell its erotica and nudity in the name of the life story of Raja Ravi Varma. The film falls flat at the box office and manages to collect just about Rs 3.95 crore for its opening week.

    Super Nani is the end of the story by its week two. The film manages to collect Rs 10 lakh in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 2.85 crore.

    Happy New Year has added Rs 7.4 crore in its third week to take its three week tally to Rs 169.8 crore.

    An animated film, Chaar Sahibzaade revolves around the Sikh Guru – Guru Gobind Singh and his sons.
