    Manish Kapoor named as Pepe Jeans India MD & CEO

    Mumbai: Denim retailer Pepe Jeans London has promoted Manish Kapoor as managing director in continuation of his current role of chief executive officer, India. 

    According to a statement, India is one of the most crucial markets for Pepe Jeans and Kapoor will be instrumental in growing the existing businesses aligned with the broader global strategy.

    Kapoor joined Pepe Jeans India in 2014 and was promoted to the role of sales director within a span of two years. Owing to his strategic contribution towards the growth of the brand in the Indian market, he was elevated to chief business officer in April 2019 and subsequently appointed as CEO in September 2019.  

    “Under Kapoor’s leadership, Pepe Jeans India strengthened its balance sheet position by strategic reduction of inventory and debtors along with substantial reduction of debt. His effective leadership has enabled the company to successfully generate free operating cash during this difficult period,” said the brand in a statement. “E-com contribution for the brand accelerated from 8 per cent in 2019 to 28 per cent this fiscal year, reflecting the benefit of leveraging omnichannel initiatives,” it added.

    In 2021, Kapoor was recognised as The Economic Times Inspiring CEO for his efforts in helping steer Pepe Jeans to great heights even during unprecedented times of the Covid 19 aftermath. In the same year, he was also acknowledged for his efforts towards sustaining a high-trust high-performance culture by Great Place to Work – India’s best Leaders in Times of Crisis 2021.

    “I am delighted to lead Pepe Jeans India into the next phase of growth and continue on the digital and consumer-focused transformation journey that we started 18 months ago,” said Manish Kapoor on his appointment.

    Kapoor is a strategist and implementer with demonstrated abilities in accomplishing business growth on a consistent basis. He has previously held key leadership roles in brands such as French Connection, Sisley, Benetton India, Pantaloons and Madura Garments to name a few.

    He acquired a B-tech degree from the Technological Institute of Textiles and Science in 2000 and further continued to pursue a diploma degree in apparel marketing and merchandising management from NIFT in 2002. He was awarded the gold medal for academic excellence at NIFT and was an all-India topper in his PGDAMMM course across all NIFT centers.

    Sony Music and Sony Pictures launch joint venture – ‘Sony Entertainment Talent Ventures India’

    Mumbai: Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced the creation of their first joint venture – Sony Entertainment Talent Ventures India (SETVI) to focus on creating opportunities for media talent in India.

     The new entity will offer actors, musicians, sportspersons, gamers & content creators in India opportunities for co-ventures, metaverse solutions, as well as brand partnerships and management.

    Shridhar Subramaniam, Sanford Panitch, and N.P. Singh (managing director and chief executive officer, Sony Pictures Networks India) comprise SETVI’s board of directors, and Vijay Singh will lead the new company as CEO.

    The joint venture for Sony Group looks to combine the expertise and global reach of the two companies, leveraging the vast pool of commercial talent and star-power in India to build investment opportunities, partnerships, metaverse solutions and more for talent. “India is on track to become the third largest consumer market by 2030 and sustains one of the largest local-language content creation ecosystems in the world,” said the statement.

    The talent represented by SETVI will also benefit from potential partnerships and global opportunities across the wider Sony Group such as PlayStation and Sony Electronics.

    Vijay Singh was previously the CEO at Fox Star Studios for over a decade from 2010 to 2020. Prior to this, Singh was managing director of developing markets at the Tetley Group in London, and also brings music industry experience to the role, having previously led Sony Music Entertainment India as managing director from 1996 to 2002.

    Bhadouria has a doctorate in Retail Service Quality as well as an MBA from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He graduated from the HAAS School of Management at the University of California, Berkeley, and has also completed the executive programme in business finance from IIM Ahmedabad, and the executive programme in business analytics from IIM Calcutta.

    Freshworks’ Girish Mathrubootham named ‘Digital Person of the Year’ at IDA 2022

    Mumbai: Freshworks CEO and founder Girish Mathrubootham has bagged the ‘Digital Person of the Year’ award at the recently concluded India Digital Awards (IDA) 2022, organised by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). Instituted in the year 2009, IDA is one of the oldest awards for the digital industry.

    Over 750+ paid entries were received this year for 10 broad award categories, which included a number of sub-award segments. About 120 winners were selected through a two-tier jury evaluation process. Indiamart founder and CEO Dinesh Agarwal, Vserv founder and CEO Dippak Khurana, The Indian Express Group CEO George Varghese, Tata 1MG co-founder and CEO Prashant Tandon were some of the jury members for IDA this year.

    Mathrubootham is an inspiration for all Indian entrepreneurs, building startups in the SaaS segment. The grand jury took cognisance of his company’s achievement in not only creating a new and difficult category for the industry in India but also its successful debut on the Nasdaq stock exchange after a billion-dollar IPO last year, said the statement.

    Samrat Bedi takes over as Gozoop India CEO

    Mumbai: Gozoop Group has announced the appointment of Samrat Bedi as chief executive officer of Gozoop Group in India. He will be based in Mumbai and will report to the board of Gozoop Group.

    In this role, Bedi will spearhead Gozoop’s business operations and leadership team in India. “He will be responsible for carrying forward Gozoop’s legacy of helping brands achieve scale and success via a holistic communication approach,” said the marketing company in a statement on Tuesday.

    Former NBC chief Deborah Turness appointed CEO of BBC News

    Mumbai: Noted British journalist Deborah Turness was on Thursday appointed as the new CEO of BBC News and Current affairs. She takes over from Fran Unsworth, who had announced her decision to leave the corporation last year.

    Prior to this, she held two positions in NBC News International where she was president of NBC News from 2013 to 2017, and later president of NBC News International. An editorial heavyweight, Turness became the first-ever woman to be the president of a network division in the US.

    She has previously worked as editor of ITV News for almost a decade starting in 2004, which also made her the UK’s first female editor of the network news. In April 2021 she left her role at NBC and returned to THE ITN as CEO.

    “There has never been a greater need for the BBC’s powerful brand of impartial, trusted journalism,” said Turness in a statement. “It is a great privilege to be asked to lead and grow BBC News at a time of accelerated digital growth and innovation when its content is reaching more global consumers on more platforms than ever before.”

    Vikram Sinha to lead Indonesia’s telecom major Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison

    Mumbai: Indian origin executive Vikram Sinha has been appointed as chief executive officer of telecommunications company PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Tbk (Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison). The newly formed entity is Indonesia’s second-largest telco company.

    PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Tbk was formed following the completion of the proposed merger of Indonesia’s two leading telecommunications businesses, PT Indosat Tbk (Indosat Ooredoo) and PT Hutchison 3 Indonesia (H3I), after receiving all required shareholder and regulatory approvals. The merger was completed on 4 January.

    Sinha was previously associated with Indosat Ooredoo as chief operating officer and director since 2019. He is a telecommunications industry veteran who has spent a decade with Bharti Airtel in India and Africa, before moving to the Ooredoo Group. At Ooredoo Group, he was posted in the Maldives in 2017 and later in Myanmar in 2018.

    “We are pleased to combine two of Indonesia’s leading telecoms brands to create a stronger number two player in Indonesia, backed by two highly committed partners in Ooredoo Group and CK Hutchison.     Mumbai: Siti Networks Ltd, an Essel Group company has appointed Yogesh Sharma as chief executive officer from 1 January.

    Sharma joined Siti Networks as vice president in 2018 and became the chief operating officer in 2019. He has been instrumental in introducing innovative ideas, implementing new processes and competitive strategies to achieve market leadership, said the company in a statement. He has led tactical initiatives and best practices to streamline the operational framework by setting up a robust system at the company, it added.

    DB Corp names Rahul Namjoshi as CEO of My FM

    Mumbai: Publishing house DB Corp has promoted Rahul Namjoshi to the position of chief executive officer (CEO) of its radio division – My FM. According to Namjoshi’s LinkedIn profile, he took over as CEO of the radio division in October.

    Namjoshi has been serving as the chief operating officer (COO) of the radio division since May 2019. As COO, he was responsible for improving the radio division’s profitability. He managed a team of 500+ people spread over 30 stations and eight corporate markets.

    Namjoshi’s elevation was confirmed by DB Corp president Harrish M Bhatia, who served as the CEO of DB Corp’s radio division for almost 10 years till August 2017. “Dreams do come true – yes I am happy to share that one of my dreams came true few days back. Rahul Namjoshi is promoted as CEO of MY FM. I am so happy to see progress that Rahul has made,” said Bhatia in a recently shared post on social media.

    “When I took over in 2007 I had Rahul in my team, and I remember sometime around 2012/2013 in one of the meetings I had expressed my desire that it is my dream that one of our team members take over from me when I move on instead of a new person coming from outside. Finally, this dream has come true. It’s very important for any organisation which has great culture, growing, good processes and systems in place that somebody from within the system should take over to take it forward,” he added.

    Prior to his promotion as COO, Namjoshi was My FM’s business head for over one year since November 2017. He joined My FM in March 2007 as regional head – Gujarat following which he was elevated as national vorporate sales head in July 2011.
