    MUMBAI: Diageo India, the nation’s leading beverage alcohol company, has announced a leadership transition. Praveen Someshwar, former MD and CEO of HT Media, will take over as CEO-Designate on 1 March  2025, succeeding Hina Nagarajan, who moves to a global executive role at Diageo globally.

    Hina, who led Diageo India through a period of remarkable growth, credited with doubling its market capitalisation to over Rs 1 trillion, will step down on 1 April 2025. Under her tenure, Diageo India expanded its portfolio and bolstered its market share across categories.

    Diageo chief executive Debra Crew said: “Under Hina’s leadership, Diageo India has combined strong top-line growth and margin expansion with impactful strategic initiatives, reshaping and premiumising our portfolio and positioning Diageo India as an innovative leader in the AlcoBev industry.     Derek Chang Named president & CEO of Liberty Media

    MUMBAI: The John Malone-headed Liberty Media Corp has announced the appointment of veteran media, sports, and entertainment executive Derek Chang as its president&  CEO, effective 1  February  2025.

    Chang, a Liberty Media board member since 2021, brings extensive experience from leadership roles at the NBA, DirecTV, Scripps, and EverPass Media, among others. Liberty Media  chairman John Malone, will serve as interim CEO until Chang assumes the role.

    “I am thrilled to welcome Derek as CEO,” said Malone. “His deep industry expertise and leadership make him the ideal choice to guide Liberty’s next chapter.”

    Chang expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating his focus will be on optimising Liberty Media’s portfolio and advancing key assets like Formula 1 and MotoGP.

    Chang will join the Liberty Media board’s executive committee alongside Malone, Dob Bennett, and Chase Carey.

    Liberty Media operates interests in media, sports, and entertainment businesses, including Formula 1 and Live Nation.

    Saleha Williams takes over as IABM CEO

    MUMBAI: The international trade association for broadcast and media (IABM)  today announced the appointment of Saleha Williams as CEO. Williams took up the role with effect from 2 December 2024. She succeeds Jerry Gepner who was CEO from October 2023 to May 2024. He had replaced Peter White who occupied the corner office for around 13 years before stepping down in January 2023.

    As the CEO of the association, Williams will lead IABM’s mission to advance the interests of the global broadcast and media technology industry. She will work closely with its board and team to develop and implement strategies to drive innovation, foster collaboration, and promote the industry’s growth.

    Williams brings a wealth of global experience and a proven track record in the media technology industry. Over her 30 plus  year career, she has spearheaded profitable growth and elevated market positioning for entities, including BBC, Google, WPP, Cognizant, Cisco, Siemens, BT, UK Gov, the Olympics, and media and entertainment clients from Hollywood, Indian cinema and everywhere in between. 

    As a passionate technology ESG advocate, she also serves as a non-executive director at WCMC – the United Nations Environmental Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

    Zeel’s Punit Goenka resigns as MD, to continue as CEO

    MUMBAI: He wants to get down to the brass tacks of business., roll up his sleeves and go about achieving the targets the Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) board/nomination remunerations committee  has set him and rev up the company’s revenue and profits. Zeel CEO & MD Punit Goenka has resigned from the  post of managing director while retaining his position as CEO. Earlier Punit had sought permission from the Zeel board to resign as MD and continue as CEO which it accepted, effective 18 November.

    The company has also agreed to additionally designate Zeel chief financial officer Mukund Galgali as the deputy CEO. Galgali has been with the Zee group for the past 17 years, but has 27 years of work experience, and will support Punit in driving the company’s strategic initiatives.  As a member of the leadership team, he has been providing strategic consulting advice on business planning and performance, regulatory and ta  implications on business, process innovations and management controls etc. to improve business efficiency and value creation for shareholders.

    The Zeel board has recommended that a deputy chief financial officer be appointed to further strengthen the management team. Further, it is continuing the review of the company’s HR policies, processes and salary structures which were changed during the merger.

    It may be recalled that the Zeel board raised the targets  set for Punit while reappointing him as the MD & CEO. Late last week, the board had also put him under close watch, saying they would be evaluating his performance in terms of quarterly consolidated revenues and EBITDA  over the next four quarters  commencing Q3FY25) and pay out of 25 per cent of consolidated net profits as dividend to  Zeel’s shareholders.

    In a statement issued on Monday, Punit  said that Zeel remains on a firm footing and is taking all the necessary steps to build a robust foundation for its future. “In order to ensure we maintain a sharp focus on achieving our targeted aspirations, the core businesses require dedicated time and energy which can only be achieved in an operational capacity. In the long-term interest of the Company and all its stakeholders, I have approached the board with a request to attain operational focus as the CEO. I am grateful to the board for recognizing my efforts and supporting me in this approach,” he added.

    As part of the changes,  the variable portion (40 per cent) of Punit’s  salary will be paid only on achievement of certain milestones, subject to a maximum cap as defined by the Zeel board.

    Zeel chairman R.     According to his LinkedIn post on 5 January 2024, Ashwani Gupta joins Adani Ports and SEZ (Special Economic Zone).
