Instagram introduces a new feature- ‘You’re All Caught Up’

MUMBAI: Instagram has come up with a new feature named ‘You’re All Caught Up’ that informs the user when they have seen every posts on their feeds in the last 48 hours. A green tick appears on the screen along with the message ‘You’re All Caught Up’ helping the user to have a better understanding of their feed and to inform them that they haven’t missed recent photos or videos.

This update is a supposed antidote to Instagram’s algorithmic which shows posts in a non-chronological order which was launched about two years back and was widely criticised. People objected that the feature will use information based on user’s interaction in the app to plan its feed which will spoil the usual way of scrolling through the app.

This feature is also supposed to help users to manage the time that is spent on the app and stop them from ‘over programming’. Not just this, Instagram also might be working on a ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature to help the users.

Facebook  CEO Mark Zuckerberg  has been vocal about prioritizing well-being over profits, to the point that the network reduced the prevalence of viral videos in the feed so much that that app lost 1 million users in the U.S. and Canada in Q4 2017. “I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down. If we do the right thing, I believe that will be good for our community and our business over the long term too,” said Zuckerberg as quoted by Techcrunch.

Apple is going to introduce Screen Time in iOS 12. Google’s Dashboard, which is going to be a part of Android P. These features are going to let the user track their usage patterns and understand which apps are taking up most of their time.

Vice explores India’s gully rap in first documentary for Voot

MUMBAI: Vice India, a leading youth media brand for the first time has produced a documentary on the gully rap scenario in India named Kya Bolta Bantai for the video on demand platform by Viacom18, Voot. Vice India’s first 30-minute standalone long form documentary charts the evolution of gully rap – an emerging genre of music that is slowly gaining momentum and entering the mainstream, being co-opted by Bollywood and other commercial ventures.

Kya Bolta Bantai is directed by Naman Saraiya and explores the journey of gully rap through the perspective of pioneers, including crew members such as Dopeadelicz, Swadesi and spoof rappers Gari-B, of comedy collective Tadpatri Talkies.

This partnership comes as part of the company’s “off-platform” strategy after the announcement of full-scale operations under the Vice.com banner in April this year, to allow its select original as well as partner content to be hosted and promoted to viewers across multiple destinations in the digital ecosystem. For instance, Kanchenjunga Calling, a series that explores the journey of a real-life hero Arjun Vajpai as he attempts to climb Mt Kangchenjunga. Vice India’s first foray into partner content creation in India with Mountain Dew, PepsiCo, is also being distributed on Voot as part of this deal.

“It is our endeavour as a full-scale media company to be omnipresent; establish strategic partnerships to take what we create to an environment where the relevant viewers are already consuming rich content. Kya Bolta Bantai is an attempt to create content that is relatable to the youth of the country in a unique format of storytelling that is true to the pulse of not only Mumbai, but our country at large,” said Vice India CEO Chanpreet Arora as quoted by Dailyhunt.

Vice India has been producing local video and editorial content on various topics such as food, music, politics, sports, sex, identity, nightlife, arts, and comedy, in partnership with relevant influencers, brands and artists in the country. In the coming month, it will focus on covering sex-positive stories about sexual identities, sex toys, sex art, and more in India under the banner of ‘The VICE Guide to Sex in India’.

  • Audi CEO Rupert Stadler arrested

    Audi CEO Rupert Stadler arrested

MUMBAI: German automobile company Audi’s CEO Rupert Stadler has been arrested on suspicion of fraud. The arrest has been made in connection with Audi’s parent company Volkswagen’s role in emissionsgate (dieselgate).

The Volkswagen emissions scandal began in September 2015, when the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice of violation of the Clean Air Act to German automaker Volkswagen Group.

The prosecutors’ office recently widened its emissions cheating probe to include Stadler among the suspects accused of fraud and false advertising. The prosecutors also said that the arrest of Stadler was essential as the investigators saw the risk of him trying to suppress evidence in the diesel emissions probe.

The agency found that Volkswagen had intentionally programmed turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engines to activate their emissions controls only during laboratory emissions testing which caused the vehicles’ NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) output to meet US standards during regulatory testing, but emit up to 40 times more NOx in real-world driving.

Volkswagen deployed this programming software in about eleven million cars worldwide, and 500,000 in the United States, in model years 2009 through 2015.

Standler’s home was raided last week where Munich prosecutors based the arrest warrant on concealment of evidence.

Audi confirmed the news in a statement: “We confirm that Mr Stadler was arrested this morning. The hearing to determine whether he will be remanded is ongoing.”

Volkswagen has pleaded guilty to the criminal charges pressed against the company where two managers are serving prison time in US.

  • Guest Column: Are you good enough to be a CEO: The 4 ‘Selfie’ Check-up

Guest Column: Are you good enough to be a CEO: The 4 ‘Selfie’ Check-up

It is within everyone’s grasp to be a CEO.  There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure.  Life is not really a solo sport – even if you’re the CEO.  Being a CEO is at least twice as hard as the next hardest position in a company.  It is really, really hard.  This is especially true with founder CEOs.
To become a proven transformational leader and creating a successful track record of building brands, businesses and value requires much more than just an opportunity.

Working with start-ups exposes one to holding positions of high responsibility and leadership earlier than most of one’s fellow colleagues. Shaping and growing new businesses and building a profitable and large opportunity canvass requires thought leadership, entrepreneurial management style, creative strategy and execution. Most important survival and growth strategy is the ability to reimagine businesses and build innovative business models.

In delineating the four essential faces for a CEO, I am adapting leading mythologist Joseph Campbell’s description of each of us as “a hero with a thousand faces,” and Erica Fox’s article. A CEO needs to be like a

Dreamer – this is the visionary face led by intuition – suggestive of an inner CEO.
Thinker – this is the evaluation face led by reason – suggestive of an inner CFO.
Warrior – this is the relationship face led by willpower – suggestive of an inner COO.
Lover – this is the relationship face led by emotion – suggestive of an inner CHRO.

Everything ultimately becomes the CEO’s problem, no matter where it starts. Reason why some CEOs crack under the pressure.

    A CEO’s job consumes you.

It should not be looked at as a step-up but as a calling!
