Cadbury Bournvita unveils new campaign ‘Faith Not Force’

Mumbai: Cadbury Bournvita has launched a new campaign film, titled “Faith, Not Force,” with a strong reminder for society to recognise and nurture every child’s individual potential.

Conceptulised by Ogilvy Mumbai, the campaign is a movement that aims to enlighten parents to take notice of their children’s true talent instead of forcing them into preset career moulds. It is supported by a high-decibel 360-degree marketing campaign, including print activations, partnerships with leading social media platforms, and influencer engagement.

As a society, we’ve always dictated what our kids’ futures should be. Even though we have their best interests at heart, we force our kids towards a particular profession, often ignoring their natural inclination and talent.

And to demonstrate this in a manner that registers and drives the point home, the brand has decided to do something audacious. It transformed the iconic Bournvita Jar, found in every household, and forced the jars to become something they weren’t destined to be—a toilet cleaner jar, an egg box, a tissue paper box, a glass cleaner bottle, a ketchup bottle, a soap box, a cooking oil bottle. These jars contain Bournvita powder inside them but don’t look like the Bournvita jars they were meant to be.

The intent is to shock consumers when they reach out for the iconic Bournvita jar at shopping aisles and our direct-to-consumer website and notice these strange-looking packs, to help them draw a parallel to situations when children are also forced to follow a predetermined path that may work for others but may not be true to the child’s individual potential.

The Bournvita Forced Packs are available at select Star Bazaar outlets as well as online. By bringing these jars home and sharing their pledge, parents can demonstrate that they, too, are opposed to forcing children and support “FaithNotForce.”

For the launch, Cadbury Bournvita has partnered with Star Bazaar to feature the shocking avatar of jars in select stores and capture shoppers’ reactions in real-time.

Commenting on the campaign, Mondelez India GCBM director of marketing Vikasdeep Katyal said, “Over the last seven decades, Cadbury Bournvita has successfully built a strong bond with parents by delivering on nutritional needs. While society continues to view career options as having a narrow range, we recognised the need to encourage parents to relieve themselves of the burden of passing on the same career choices to their children. Our idea is built on the simple premise of not overlooking a child’s true potential, and we are confident that the innovation in terms of the packaging will help parents take notice of the campaign along with the “FaithNotForce” pledge on www.thebournvitastore.in. We sincerely hope to gain support in our attempt towards instilling faith and celebrating every child’s uniqueness.”

Speaking on the thought-provoking campaign, Ogilvy India chief creative officers Harshad Rajadhyaksha and Kainaz Karmakar said, “It took a long time and many test runs before we could get this project to the floor. Right from idea to execution, our creative team, Akshay Seth and Chinmay Raut, and the larger Bournvita team at Ogilvy have spared no effort. From the birth of the idea to planning the campaign ecosystem, designing the packs and e-commerce page, it has been an exciting journey. When people around saw the idea, the emotions it evoked was all the proof we needed, that we’ve hit upon a truth that needs to be told. Forced packs is an intervention; to stop pushing our ambitions onto our children.”

Cadbury Bournvita unveils a short film ‘The Boy Who Failed’ in its latest campaign ‘Tayyari Jeet Ki’

Mumbai: Mondelez India’s nutrition brand Cadbury Bournvita has rolled out a four-minute short film, “The Boy Who Failed,” introducing a perspective shift on failure under its campaign “Tayyari Jeet Ki.”

The latest film emphasises the role of failure in today’s hyper-competitive world in making one stronger and more resilient than before. It brings alive the simple yet ironic life truth that failure is the biggest teacher on the path to success, and hence the need to perceive it accordingly. Thus, conveying the message of normalising failure and encouraging kids to learn from it and bounce back stronger for another step towards their “Tayyari Jeet Ki.”

As an extension of this campaign, Cadbury Bournvita has partnered with the Indian athletes who almost made it to the winning podium, despite the loss, emerging as nothing less than champions. Amid a bunch of success stories and medal tallies, the brand will be welcoming and supporting athletes Anahat Singh, Hima Das, and Ashish Kumar Chaudhary, who’ve gained more than a medal—an unforgettable experience and tonnes of learning to win their next game. The brand will be leveraging OOH advertising to celebrate their fighting spirit in the most special way.

The players will also use their social media handles to share their inspiring stories and game learning, emphasising the message of rising above failures. This will be backed by some inspiring content on dealing with failure on Cadbury Bournvita’s “Tayyari Jeet Ki” (tayyarijeetki.in) parenting website.

Commenting on the campaign, Mondelez India vice president-marketing Anil Viswanathan said, “In today’s hyper-competitive world, even the smallest of failures can impact children physically, mentally, and emotionally. In such an environment, it becomes imperative for parents to help children realise their true potential and help them embrace failure gracefully while encouraging them to learn from it.”

Although failure has always been portrayed in a negative light, this film allowed us to emphasise the importance of the right “Tayyari” and to shift perspective towards how people view failures and disappointments. To emphasise the message further, we have associated with Indian athletes who will help inspire children to deal with failure and emerge stronger for their future endeavours,” he added.

Conceptualised by Ogilvy India executive creative director Akshay Seth and group creative director Chinmay Raut added, “As a brand, we wish to change the perspective on failure that we as a country have, in the most inspiring and authentic manner. In the wake of the recent sporting events, while the country applauded the winners, we wanted to reach out and inspire the Indian athletes who, despite their best, didn’t make it to the podium. Because failing is fine, not fighting back is not. And we’re sure our champions will do exactly that with the nation’s support.”

Commenting on the campaign, Wavemaker India chief client office and office head-west Shekhar Banerjee said, “No one can personify our message better than athletes. All of us, as parents and kids, have something to learn from them: the spirit of never giving up. Even when they don’t win, they leave us hopeful. They teach us to fail gracefully and come back even harder. Big thanks to the athletes for supporting us in this cause.”

This latest campaign is supported by a high-decibel 360-degree marketing campaign including disruptive outdoor activations, partnerships with leading social media platforms and influencer engagement. Additionally, the brand has launched a parenting website (www.tayyarijeetki.in) that will host inspiring stories about the players in addition to anchoring progressive and holistic conversations on parenting for kids during their formative years.

  • Brands ready to outshine on Diwali

Brands ready to outshine on Diwali

Inflation be damned! Diwali is here and consumers are more than willing to loosen their purse strings. Exactly, why a majority of brands go all out to woo them.

It is a critical period for most companies and hence, elaborate plans are made to reach out to consumers, says Llyod Mathias

In any case, most companies are known to allocate nearly 25 to 35 per cent of their marketing budget to the festive season. Not surprisingly, it’s that time of the year when newspaper supplements get to look fatter and fancier, and television ads and hoardings get a colourful new lease of life.

Says marketing veteran Lloyd Mathias: “It is a critical period for most companies – consumer durables, auto, paints etc. – and hence, elaborate plans are made to reach out to consumers, who are also not hesitant to shell out money.”

Apart from aggressively marketing existing products, many brands even launch new products.
Titan, for instance, has launched a new campaign featuring Katrina Kaif to promote its latest Raga collection – Raga Pearls. Says global marketing head Rajan Amba: “In addition to Raga, we also have outdoor campaigns for our premium brands – Nebula & Xylys.” In a first, Titan plans to offer a Tanishq gold pendant free with every purchase below Rs 70,000, and a Tanishq gold and diamond pendant free with every purchase about Rs 70,000. Titan also plans to launch 180 variants in keeping with the festive spirit.

At Raga we strive to create memorable stories every year, explains Rajan Amba, The World Gold Council, undeterred by soaring gold prices, has launched its new collection named Azva. “This season is the main spending time for us and will go all out with it. GECs, movies, music, regional channels as well as OOH and print will be utilized in the 360 degree marketing plan to optimize sales,” says WGC jewellery director Vipin Sharma.

There’s no undermining the importance of sweets during Diwali, and this year, Cadbury plans to leverage the entire Mondelez International Portfolio to create a cross-category gift pack containing Cadbury chocolates, Choclairs, Cadbury Bournvita and Oreo biscuits for customers. “As we get into the Diwali season, we will again look at getting consumers to celebrate the true spirit of the festival. The essence of the festival, of spending time together with your loved ones, seems to have been lost. Through, Cadbury Celebrations thus, we look forward to actually enabling people to come together and spend quality time this Diwali,” says Cadbury India chocolate – gifting & strategy AVP Amarpreet Anand. At Cadbury, gifting is all about re-establishing closeness with loved ones which seems to have been replaced in today’s age of technology, busy lives and consumerism; Anand points out.

In sharp contrast, PepsiCo India plans to capitalize on the ‘sweets overkill’ to promote their salty snack brand Kurkure.

Vipin Sharma says that the festive season is the main spending time and WGC will go all out with it

“Over the years, through its campaigns that encourage consumers to spend more time with family, Kurkure has constantly re-invented itself to remain relevant to the Indian ethos and culture.

Festivals hold special importance in our annual marketing calendar and offer an ideal platform to reach out to consumers. Kurkure, with its unique take on celebrations, seeks to cut down the excessive sweetness that accompanies celebrations. So every year around the festival season, we bring in new flavours and innovative gifting options that strengthen our much loved proposition of ‘Zyaada Meetha ho Gaya? Iss Diwali Muh Kurkure Karo’,” says PepsiCo India Indian snacks category director Nalin Sood. Indeed, Kurkure is launching a new range of ‘Raja Rani’ gift packs designed by Ray and Keshavan, a leading South Asian brand & design consulting firm.

The festive period also sees a lot of consumer spending in the FMCG and automobile categories. Says Godrej Appliances sales & marketing executive VP Kamal Nandi: “At Godrej, our attempt is to delight our consumers with Best in Class innovative products. Continuing this tradition, we are launching a breakthrough technology in washing machines, which will be a revolution in this category and most of our marketing activity will be focusing on this product this festive season The pre-launch phase of this special campaign has already been launched on digital media and which in itself is a first of its kind initiative in the industry.”

Godrej plans to focus on consumer engagement through facebook and YouTube apart from regular digital advertising, SEM, etc.

Godrej plans to focus on consumer engagement through facebook and YouTube apart from regular digital advertising, SEM etc, elaborates Kamal Nandi

Similarly, Fiat Group Automobiles India has come up with a new ad for its recently launched Linea Classic. The campaign showcases Fiat Linea Classic as an affordable car designed to make the sedan far more accessible to hatchback users, in turn making them ‘feel big’.

In the electronics segment, Dell India has kicked off its ‘Celebrate Dell Se’ campaign a few weeks ago, part of which is the ‘Hint a Gift’ TV commercial for its Inspiron notebooks. Says Dell India marketing director Ritu Gupta: “Building an emotional connection between our customers and technology is integral to Dell’s branding strategy. In line with our on-going achievement “I can do kuch bhi” campaign, we decided this festive season to inspire the youth with the idea that they have the power to get what they want by hinting to their loved ones about their preferred gift for Diwali, which in this case is the Dell Inspiron range of touch laptops.”

All said, brands may try to outdo and outshine one another but it is ultimately up to the customer to decide which one to give preference to…
