    Mission Impossible 5 to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie

    MUMBAI: It is confirmed that the Jack Reacher director will also be leading the fifth installment of the popular MI series. The film starring Tom Cruise will reunite him with McQuarrie. The two have previously worked together on Jack Reacher.

     

    The movie is being produced by Paramount and Skydance productions. Drew Pierce is writing the script for the movie. McQuarrie is repped by CAA. In 1996 McQuarrie won the best screenplay award for The Usual Suspects. He was recently associated with The Wolverine as screenwriter.

     

    Paramount Film group president Adam Goodman said that the series is famous for its signature directors and McQuarrie fulfills the role for them. The MI series have been a very popular series starring Tom Cruise. However, the movie hasn’t kept its audience going past the second movie.

    MUMBAI: The sexuality drama series Open is being produced by Ryan Murphy. Anna Torv has had a successful stint with Fringe on Fox for five years. Jennifer Jason Leigh will be the on-screen love interest of Torv. The series will explore sexuality in the light of monogamy and intimacy in relationships.

     

    The series starts off with Torv and Leigh in a relationship but the entrance of Grace in Torv’s on screen character’s life, issues crop up between the two. The actor who will play the role of Grace is still under process.

     

    Scott Speedman will be Grace’s gynaecologist husband. Glee’s Dante Di Loreto will be the executive producer for Ryan Murphy Television and 20th Television’s cable arm Fox 21.

     

    Forv is repped by WME and United Management in Australia while Leigh is repped by CAA, Untitled and Sloane Offer. Open would be Murphy’s second project with HBO.

    Paul Greengrass to helm ‘The trial of Chicago 7’

    MUMBAI: Paul Greengrass is in final talks to direct the movie written by Aaron Sorkin, creator of the Newsroom, the movie is based on the trial of seven people who were charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot during the Chicago protests of 1968’s Democratic national Convention.

     

    DreamWorks will be funding development while Disney will be distributing the movie. Sorkin had signed a three project deal with DreamWorks in 2007.

     

    The project which has been in the doldrums since long, Steven Spielberg’s name was once attached to it. Due to the delay, he left, after which the contenders were Greengrass and Ben Stiller.

     

    Greengrass’ next movie is Captain Phillips. He is represented by CAA.

    MUMBAI: Breaking records with ‘Gangnam Style‘ 2012 and crossing 1.7 billion YouTube views, South Korean pop star Psy has moved on from the talent agency CAA (Creative Artists Agency) to WME (William Morris Endeavour). He was the first ever person to reach a billion views on YouTube.

    The agency will represent Psy in all markets outside South Korea. The agency will be working to expand Psy‘s presence in the music industry as well as look for opportunities across platforms such as film, television, endorsements, books and digital media.

    His manager will still be Scooter Braun who also manages Justin Bieber. Psy had got the eyes of the world with Gangnam Style and then hit another score with ‘Gentleman‘. The Associated Press has put his earnings at $8.1 million, mostly due to YouTube advertisements and iTunes.

    Anthony E. Zuiker to receive pioneer prize at Digital Emmy Awards

    MUMBAI: Anthony E. Zuiker, creator of the ‘CSI‘ franchise, is set to receive the 2013 Pioneer Prize at the International Digital Emmy Awards for his online thriller ‘Cybergeddon‘. Zuiker will be honored during the live ceremony on 8 April at the television trade event MipTV in Cannes, France.

    He created and executive produced ‘Cybergeddon‘, which broke the online distribution mold by launching globally first on Yahoo! in September of 2012 in 25 countries and 10 languages, as a series of three installments. ‘Cybergeddon‘ starred Olivier Martinez and Missy Peregrym and brought to life the growing threat of cybercrime through an immersive storytelling, social media and gaming experience. Norton by Symantec was tapped to lend credibility and security insights and the project was backed by Dolphin Digital Media in a deal brokered and packaged by Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

    International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences president, CEO Bruce Paisner said, “Anthony E. Zuiker is one of today‘s most groundbreaking cross-platform storytellers, and we look forward to honoring his creative genius and innovative contributions to the field of digital entertainment with our Pioneer Prize.”

    Zuiker said, “It is an absolute honour to be recognised by the International Academy for ‘Cybergeddon‘. This was a project that really changed the game for online content in terms of ownership, global distribution and brand integration, so I appreciate the Academy for supporting digital and the great work that is moving this industry forward.”

    In addition to the Pioneer Prize, The International Academy will present three International Digital Emmy Awards for Digital Programme: Children and Young People; Digital Programme: Fiction and Digital Programme: Non-Fiction.

    As in previous years, the International Digital Emmy Awards will bring together over 200 international executives across the entertainment, mobile and Internet industries at a ceremony, on the opening night of MipTV 2013.

    Zuiker will also be part of MipTV‘s conference programme with a Media Mastermind keynote on the future of storytelling.

  • American agency CAA sets foot in India through JV with Kwan

    MUMBAI: After IMG and Platinum Rye Entertainment, Los Angeles-based top talent management agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has set foot in the Indian market through a joint-venture with Mumbai-based celebrity and sports management agency Kwan Entertainment.

    The JV will represent local talent in India and the SAARC nations to create global opportunities for clients in the areas of motion pictures and television (including packaging and sales), music, commercial endorsements, sports consulting, licensing and merchandising, live events, and business development.

    CAA‘s India entry was only a matter of time as the agency had set the stage in February by signing Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra. Its Indian roster also includes Golden Globe-nominated director Shekhar Kapur.

    The development comes close on the heels of another American agency Platinum Rye Entertainment picking 50 per cent stake in Mahesh Bhupathi-promoted Globosport‘s Brand Advisory Business.

    Earlier, New York-based fashion, sports and talent management company IMG Worldwide had entered into a 50/50 joint-venture with India‘s biggest business house Reliance Industries to form IMG Reliance.

    The JV will be led by CAA‘s David Taghioff and Caleb Franklin, along with KWAN CEO and MD Anirban Das Blah and COO Indranil Das Blah. The new company, with more than 60 employees, will be based in Mumbai, with offices in Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
    Anirban Das Blah was formerly with Globosport as its chief executive officer and has been credited with setting up the agency successfully. After quitting Globosport, Anirban started out on his own with KWAN along with Indranil Das Blah.

    Nolan quits talent agency CAA

    MUMBAI: Christopher Nolan, director of films like The Dark Knight and Inception has exited talent agency CAA.

    It is said that the move comes in the wake of the abrupt departure of Nolan‘s longtime agent Dan Aloni from the agency on Wednesday. Aloni‘s assistants also were fired, according to the source.
     
    Aloni is said to have been blindsided by the move, though he had clashed with other CAA agents and is believed to have worked against colleagues in certain circumstances. Till late Wednesday it was not clear as to where would Aloni head to but other top agencies will pursue the agent to join them, it is believed.

    Nolan is also a producer on Warner Bros.‘ in-development film Superman, a reboot Man of Steel.
