    Ankit Desai rejoins Marico as media & digital marketing head

    Mumbai: Disney+ Hotstar’s former executive Ankit Desai has joined Marico as head – media and digital marketing (India & global centre of excellence). 

    Desai had quit the FMCG major in 2019 to join Disney+ Hotstar as vice president and head – product revenue strategy (entertainment). He spent close to three years at the streaming platform. 

    Armed with nearly 18 years of professional experience, Desai is a media professional with expertise in digital marketing, strategic media planning/buying and revenue strategy. 

    He joined Marico in March 2011 as media manager before getting elevated as group media manager – India in 2014. Before Marico, he was with NDTV, where he was in charge of marketing, communication, and brand management. He has also worked with GroupM as media planner and with Dainik Jagran as ad sales executive.

    Desai has completed his PG in advertising from Symbiosis International University in 2006.

    Mumbai: KnowledgeHut, a Bangalore-based short-duration skills provider has appointed Shauvik Ghosh as head of PR and corporate communications. The appointment is part of the ed-tech start-up’s plans to aggressively expand its business and drive growth in its business across its domestic and international markets.

    In his new role, Ghosh will be responsible for driving awareness and establishing the brand stature for KnowledgeHut and driving an effective communication narrative for the brand. He will report to head of product and growth Ashish Kumar and Knowledgehut CEO Subramanyam Reddy.

His expertise lies in managing multiple projects and campaigns across geographies and providing results beyond expectations is well documented.

    CNN Digital Worldwide names Steve George as director, Asia-Pacific

    Mumbai: CNN Digital Worldwide has promoted Steve George to director of CNN Digital for the Asia-Pacific region, based in Hong Kong. George begins his new role effective immediately.

    In this role, he is responsible for digital content, strategy and publishing and leads a team of digital producers, reporters and editors across APAC.

    Prior to this role, George was a senior news editor for CNN Digital. He spearheaded CNN’s digital coverage of major breaking news events in Asia-Pacific and was the founding editor of CNN’s Meanwhile in China newsletter, a three-times-a-week analysis of Chinese society, politics and foreign policy for a global readership.

    Mumbai: Samya Deb has joined YouTube as head of brand creative studio, as per his LinkedIn profile. Deb, who is a co-founder of Northeast Edit, has moved from Airbnb as regional creative director, APAC.

    “Looks like the trial subscription to my early-retirement plan has come to an end. I have recently joined YouTube as Head of Brand Creative Studio, APAC. The mandate is to create an unprecedented stream of culture defining brand work to celebrate the most diverse creative community on the planet,” he wrote in a LinkedIn post.

    Deb has over a decade’s experience in leading creative studios. In his over six-year stint at Airbnb, he helmed multiple roles such as creative consultant, regional creative director and head of design for the APAC region.

    Prior to Airbnb, Deb worked with companies like Bates CHI & Partners, Matrix, DY Works, Cowan and Superunion.

    Achint Setia named marketing & social comm business head at Myntra

    Mumbai: Flipkart-owned fashion e-commerce platform Myntra has promoted Achint Setia to the position of marketing and social commerce business head. He was previously the VP and business head – social commerce at the fashion portal.

    In his new role, Setia will be responsible for building Myntra brand, loyalty program (Insider), user growth, content-led commerce, and Live commerce businesses.

    “Starting another new chapter at Myntra helping people look good and feel good! Thanks to my teams, mentors and well wishers,” Setia said in a LinkedIn post, announcing his new role.

    Setia is a business building expertise in consumer tech and media with cross-functional experience across marketing, operations, strategy, content, product development, and analytics.

    He joined Myntra as VP of marketing in 2018 and led brand, sale events, digital and performance marketing in that role. He conceptualised, launched and scaled the Myntra loyalty programme (Insider) and the venture into content to commerce play (Myntra Studio).

    Before joining Myntra, he worked with companies like McKinsey & Co, Microsoft R&D, and Viacom18 Media.

    Disney Star onboards George Cherian as corporate communications & CSR head

    Mumbai: Disney Star on Monday announced the appointment of George Cherian as head of corporate communications and corporate social responsibility (CSR) for the market. Cherian will report to The Walt Disney Company and Star India country manager and president K Madhavan and will join the India leadership team that drives Disney Star businesses in the country, said the statement.

    In this role, Cherian will be responsible for overseeing all strategic communications and CSR efforts for the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution (DMED) business in the country which includes television network, streaming platform, and studios. 

    “We are at an exciting juncture of our growth story and strongly believe that communication is one of the key drivers in establishing a brand’s stature,” said K Madhavan. “As the country’s leading media, entertainment and digital network, we have a strong and compelling story to tell. Prior to that, he headed communications for Barclays in the Asia Pacific region. As a journalist, Cherian was a part of the founding teams of Bloomberg TV India and ET Now and he also worked with The Economic Times.
