  • Bumble & Puma encourage singles to discover love while running

Bumble & Puma encourage singles to discover love while running

MUMBAI : This Valentine’s weekend, Bumble and Puma are redefining dating with the singles run in Mumbai on 15 February. Swapping candlelit dinners for running shoes, the event offers singles a chance to meet, connect, and find chemistry through a shared love of fitness.

The reason the duo is taking this tack is because fitness has increasingly started shaping dating trends. And a Bumble survey highlights how singles are embracing active connections:

Fitness as the new flirty date: Nearly half (49 per cent) of singles actively seek fitness or wellness- based dates, preferring a jog, yoga session, or hike over conventional outings.

Sports as the ultimate first date: A staggering 95 per cent of singles find sports-driven first dates appealing, with 72 per cent strongly favouring activities like a 3 km run, padel, or tennis.

No sports, no love?: For 44 per cent of singles, a lack of interest in sports could be a dealbreaker in romance.

Gen Z’s fitness-focused romance: More than half (52 per cent) of Gen Z singles prioritise fitness and wellness activities in their dating lives.

  • Puma India & Bumble partner to launch a joint singles run

Puma India & Bumble partner to launch a joint singles run

Mumbai: Sports brand Puma India has partnered with Bumble, the women-first dating app, to launch a singles-only running event. This collaboration merges sport and dating, offering young adults a new way to meet in person ahead of Singles’ Day (11 November).

Targeting ages 21–35, the three km run will take place in Bengaluru on 10 November, starting at Nexus Koramangala mall and ending with a social mixer for runners to connect.

With sports becoming a key factor in social connections, a recent Bumble survey found 72 per cent of Indians are open to a sports-themed first date, and 44 per cent consider a lack of interest in sports a dealbreaker. Puma and Bumble are combining their strengths—Puma’s focus on running and Bumble’s commitment to fostering connections—to create a unique experience.

Puma India MD Karthik Balagopalan said, “At Puma India, we are committed to looking for novel ways of engaging with our young consumers and bringing them together through the power of  sport. Finding a like-minded partner in Bumble, who shares our vision of creating unique properties for youngsters to meet and connect, is exciting. We strongly believe that the running community is a great opportunity for people to meet, jointly experience the thrill of this fantastic sport and make new memories. Together with Bumble, we have created a differentiated meeting experience that is all about movement, energy, and in turn foster a vibrant running community in the country. We can’t wait for everyone to see what we have planned together for the run and the year ahead.”

Bumble India senior marketing manager Pracheta Mazumdar said, “With the growth of sports documentaries and international competitions, sports is playing a bigger role in how we connect so it’s not surprising that it’s also showing up in a big way in dating. Our research shows that for 1 in 3 single Indians, a shared love of sports has now become a ‘must have’ regardless of whether they actively participate in sports or just watch it. This reflects a changing approach amongst singles to fit their dating life into their personal lives, focusing on turning what they already enjoy into a date instead of treating dates as a separate activity. We’re excited to partner with Puma India to bring this to life with a singles run that allows our Bumble community to meet like-minded people in a relaxed and fun setting, reducing the pressures often associated with dating.“

Havas Media Network India CEO Mohit Joshi said, “We at Havas have always believed in fostering meaningful connections through our meaningful media ethos. This collaboration between Puma India and Bumble – two extremely popular youth-oriented global brands for the singles-only run is a testament to the human need for connection and companionship. The stage is set for singles to bond through this unique platform, which is a delightful mix of fitness and fun. This collaboration is just what is needed to bring in a spirit of freshness and community building in the lives of youngsters who will be participating in the run.”

Puma India has been actively promoting running as a sport, supporting key events like the Vedanta Delhi Half-Marathon, Ladakh Marathon, quarterly Nitro 5k and 10k runs, and weekly training sessions in cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, led by Puma India run coaches. This partnership with Bumble marks the start of more experiences designed to inspire connection through sport and running.

  • Bumble unveils bold new brand identity and global marketing campaign

Bumble unveils bold new brand identity and global marketing campaign

Mumbai: Women-first dating app Bumble has unveiled a refreshed visual identity and a new global campaign, underscoring the company’s continued commitment to making dating better for women. The campaign coincides with the dating app expanding upon its signature ‘Make The First Move’ functionality with the launch of Opening Moves.

After a decade of revolutionizing the way women date, Bumble is stepping into an exciting new era by launching a feature that gives women more choice in how they make romantic connections. Opening Moves gives women the option to set a question that their matches can respond to, adding more ways to open a conversation while keeping women in control. Women can use one of Bumble’s recommended Opening Moves, or craft their own. According to Bumble’s research*, nearly half of women (46 per cent) surveyed on Bumble shared that having more ways to start a conversation would make their dating app experience even better.

This brand and product evolution marks a pivotal moment for Bumble, brought to life by a  global marketing campaign with high-impact digital and physical out-of-home (OOH) in more than 10 countries, with messaging such as “We’ve changed so you don’t have to.” Bumble’s campaign also features a new video that recognizes the exhaustion some women feel with online dating when their needs and experiences are not prioritized, and the women-first solution Bumble provides.

“We have always taken our lead from the amazing women in our community. Today, they are looking for more choice and ease in their dating life and with the launch of Opening Moves, Bumble is continuing to put women’s experiences first,“ said Bumble’s chief marketing officer Selby Drummond. “With this new global campaign, we wanted to take a fun, bold approach in celebrating the first chapter of our app’s evolution and remind women that our platform has been solving for their needs from the start. As we roll out these exciting updates to our product, our core principle remains the same: empowering women in every connection and in every relationship.”

In the days leading up to the announcement, Bumble teased the global launch with a renaissance-style campaign hinting at the fatigue some women feel online dating. This teaser campaign also featured larger-than-life cloud-themed beds via augmented reality, nodding to the campaign’s tired theme, short-form content, projection mapping of the ads onto landmark locations, and social media memes.

Closer to home in Asia, the same teaser video was featured on @bumble_india’s Instagram, and the account’s profile picture was changed to an imagery of a ‘sleepy girl’. The campaign also features ‘Flip It’, a video hinting at the new changes coming up to enhance women’s online dating experiences, while still keeping them in control. In India, the launch will be featured in an OOH campaign in the later half of May in  Mumbai, over Bandra’s biggest signal and wrapping up malls like DLF Cyber City, and DLF Promenade in New Delhi.

Bumble is also rolling out a new app identity which includes a new logo, bolder fonts, and refreshed colors and illustrations. Bumble’s data shows that three in four* (75 per cent) women surveyed say the look and feel of a dating app is important to their overall experience and 65 per cent say that the visual identity of a dating app can make it easier to use.

The global campaign and new app design was executed in-house by Bumble’s creative studio.

*All data was commissioned by Bumble of 6,138 women on Bumble globally ages 23-35 between 5-12 April 2024.

  • Bumble is back with new edition of its content series ‘Dating These Nights’

Bumble is back with new edition of its content series ‘Dating These Nights’

Mumbai: Dating and social networking app Bumble has launched the third edition of its series, Dating These Nights. Featuring Zoya Akhtar, Mrunal Thakur, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Jim Sarbh, Vijay Varma, and Srishti Dixit, the series aims to help people discover and navigate deeper and meaningful conversations around modern romance and dating in 2022. The series can be seen on Bumble’s YouTube channel.

The first episode, ‘Romances and Bromances’, will feature award-winning filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and actor Jim Sarbh as they dive into “modern masculinity,” discussing what healthy masculinity looks like and more. ‘Age of Love’, the second episode will see popular actors Mrunal Thakur and Shriya Pilgaonkar discuss dating in their 30s—an interesting experience to date on their own terms and timeline. Ending the season, ‘Banking on Love’ will feature the star of the recently released film “Darlings,” Vijay Varma, and influencer Srishti Dixit, who explore the nuances of financial intimacy in relationships in the last episode.

Bumble India communications director Samarpita Samaddar said, “We are excited to bring back our popular content series in its third edition, this year titled Dating These Nights. We’re flipping the switch with this after-hours series this year where we don’t sleep over it, instead we delve into deeper and more meaningful conversations around topics that are often considered taboo but need to be discussed openly. We are thrilled to be associated with such amazing talent, who are known to have carved their lives and journeys on their own terms. As a brand that understands and speaks to modern romance and evolving dating cultures in India, we hope Dating These Nights sparks more meaningful conversations and encourages healthy and equitable relationships.”

Akhtar said, “Bumble’s Dating These Nights gives a platform to spark meaningful conversations on less-tackled topics around modern relationships that should be discussed openly.”

Sarbh shared, “I consider myself fluid when it comes to these concepts as I don’t hold myself to ‘what should be’ in terms of gender ideas. Masculinity is entirely subjective, but I believe we should consider each human being for what they are as opposed to caging them in societal norms. Hailing from an industry that easily typecasts, I am thrilled to be engaged in conversations that go beyond the shackles of traditional notions. More so with Bumble, as this turns out to be my second rendezvous with them, and I applaud the kind of work they do.”

When talking about dating in her 30s, Mrunal Thakur said, “To me, it’s being more assertive about your priorities. In retrospect, even when I meet people who are in their 30s, they are clear about what they want. I am seeking that sort of transparency. Being a part of Bumble’s Dating These Nights series has been an eye-opening process as I’ve been able to discover myself more. These conversations are surely causing a positive change in the world, and I’m happy that I’m a part of this progressive society and blessed that I can pursue life the way I want even in my 30s.”

Sharing her dating experience in her 30s, Pilgaonkar said, “As you continue to evolve as a person, your idea of love changes, it matures. We get more comfortable with ourselves as we age, and this stems from self-love. In my 30s, I can say that I have a better grasp of who I am and the type of companionship I want to have. It’s time that we normalise dating and explore relationships in our 30s. Bumble’s series does just that by having open conversations and helping individuals navigate their relationships by prioritising themselves over societal norms.”

Varma, speaking on financial intimacy in relationships, shared, “As a society, we talk about money all the time but we shy away from direct questions about finances as they tend to make us feel insecure. While this stems from patriarchal thinking, I believe this can be destigmatized during the first date itself. Questions like, “Who will pay for the date?” or “Do we split the check?” are a great way to start the money conversation. The idea is to get your partner comfortable with discussing money from the very beginning. Personally, I am a firm believer in having a space to openly discuss these matters in a relationship, and I’m so glad that Bumble is taking the effort to make this mainstream.”

Dixit candidly spoke about her finances, “Growing up, as girls, we’ve been taught to be very frugal with our money. I believe a lot of them are still learning how to operate their finances better—how to make more, save more, and invest more of their money, and be assertive in such situations. I’m glad I got to associate with Bumble to emphasise the importance of being financially independent in a relationship because, ideally, that is what modern dating should look like. It should be an equal partnership.”

  • Eyes on the billboards again, as OOH business rebounds

Eyes on the billboards again, as OOH business rebounds

Mumbai: As the markets and public spaces open up and consumers’ mobility return back to normal, the OOH (Out-Of-Home) industry is rebounding from a long phase of shutdowns. The festive season in India this year witnessed a resurgence in OOH campaigns as the industry shifted gears and advertisers adjusted their game plan to take advantage of the evolving OOH landscape.

“Though the internet gained momentum in the last few years, people are always going to be spending time outdoors, including a significant amount of time commuting. That means there will always be opportunities for companies to make an impact and grow their brand using attention-capturing, visually appealing billboard advertising,” said Posterscope OOH country head Imtiyaz Vilatra.

OOH has always been a critical part of the media mix for most marketers, and it was also the one which was hardest hit by the lockdown. But, it is slowly reviving as vaccination drives gain pace, offices open up and economic activity revives. The festive period also saw a flurry of campaign launches from across categories such as OTT, Retail, Education, Automobile & BFSI.

“We witnessed more than fifty campaigns in a span of forty days- campaigns where OOH has been an integral part- Parle, Airtel, Viacom18, Tata Sky, Bike Bazaar, to name a few,” said Vilatra, adding, “We have been able to drive measurability data and deliver better ROI through our Location specialist capabilities for our clients and the response has been great.”

As India lifted lockdown restrictions, major brands such as Tanishq, Tissot,  Titan, Croma, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Raymond unveiled festive campaigns, and so did new age brands like Rapido, Tendercuts and Bumble. The women-first social networking & dating app launched exclusive out of home campaigns across major cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai that grabbed eyeballs, leveraging the medium featuring taglines with humorous, localised takes at dating culture.

Laqshya Media Group also executed a multi-city high decibel OOH campaign for Hero Lectro E-cycles. The campaign encompassed a mix of large format media units, cluster brandings and other unconventional mediums across all cities.

“A host of brands are choosing OOH – not only as a medium, but as one of the lead mediums. Across the country, the biggest spenders straddle industry verticals from Real Estate to Automobiles, from insurance to OTT, and from Jewellery to electronics (D2C as well as Legacy,” said Laqshya Media Group chief strategy officer Sai Nagesh. “During the month of October, we executed several prominent campaigns for clients like Tanishq, Maruti Suzuki etc, amongst others.”

He cites two recent innovations executed by the agency-  cluster advertising used by Titan to dominate a geography across its brands, Titan watches and Tanishq and 3-dimensional billboards used by Maruti Suzuki for its brand Celerio- to highlight his point.

    [[{“fid”:”1050499″,”view_mode”:”default”,”fields”:{“format”:”default”,”alignment”:””,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:false,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:false},”link_text”:null,”type”:”media”,”field_deltas”:{“2”:{“format”:”default”,”alignment”:””,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:false,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:false}},”attributes”:{“height”:394,”width”:700,”class”:”media-element file-default”,”data-delta”:”2″}}]]

Agencies also highlight how brands today are becoming highly data-centric and using advanced algorithms to measure the impact of various media available to them. “On our part, we have been sharing advanced OOH metrics off our proprietary platform SHARP that is able to generate the measure of quantum and quality of traffic across 32 cities in India along with metrics like Nett Reach & OTS. This has also aided the clients in re-allocating significant funds for OOH,” added Nagesh.

The best measure of whether OOH campaigns are truly ready for a comeback after the pandemic-induced hit it took is the traffic on the roads. And the traffic back on streets is a positive sign for both businesses and media partners. Some of the agencies also tracked the mobility trends during the course of the pandemic and updated their clients. With people moving out after the pandemic-induced lockdowns, the traffic has also resumed across all roads.

    [[{“fid”:”1050509″,”view_mode”:”default”,”fields”:{“format”:”default”,”alignment”:””,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:false,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:false},”link_text”:null,”type”:”media”,”field_deltas”:{“3”:{“format”:”default”,”alignment”:””,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:false,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:false}},”attributes”:{“height”:367,”width”:615,”class”:”media-element file-default”,”data-delta”:”3″}}]]

Out of Home advertising as a fast-growing industry is only set to develop further with advanced AI-powered tools that aid in accessing appropriate locations in each city to reach out to the core TG of the campaign and new technology trends over the year. A medium that was once static images with simple captions now also features interactive and electronic billboards with DOOH (Digital OOH). Brands can be much more creative with how they reach customers in all demographics using these latest innovations.

Across the world, the OOH and mobile media are fast moving towards convergence. There is even data to show that OOH + Mobile advertising produces better recall than any other medium, according to a PJ Solomon study conducted in the US. “Unlike digital advertising, people can’t skip, quickly scroll past, use ad-blocks or avoid billboards using premium subscriptions. I think in a smartphone world, the biggest screens still matter,” summed up Vilatra.

Bumble rolls out new OOH campaign in India

Mumbai: Women-first social networking app Bumble has launched its new out-of-home (OOH) campaign in India across Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai. As India lifts restrictions, Bumble’s latest OOH campaign aims to support the community to navigate their dating journeys and encourage women to make the first move.

The campaign takes a humorous and localised look at dating culture featuring taglines such as ‘Find someone who gives you the warm fuzzies even in Delhi winters’ and ‘Mumbaikars, find your local on Bumble.’

“The concept of a first date post-pandemic looks very different to what it has been in the past. Our recent study showed that 39 per cent of single Indians surveyed have tried a video date as their first date in 2021,” Bumble India communications director Samarpita Samaddar said.

“Our recent research illustrates single people in India are now excited and hopeful about dating, both virtually and in-person, looking ahead, as we get ready to start a new year. With our latest campaign, we aim to encourage our community to get ready to date and find their connections on Bumble,” she added further.

In addition, recent research by the dating and networking app found that more than one in three (33 per cent) daters surveyed are feeling hopeful about dating in 2021 with a wider rollout of vaccinations among younger age groups in India. Looking ahead in 2022, four in five single Indians are excited and hopeful about dating.

Founded in 2014 by CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd, the app has made several updates to its platform, including introducing its “Night In” feature, where two people can participate in an interactive game during a video chat. The company also recently launched Snap’s AR Lenses within Bumble video calls, launched video notes that utilize Snapchat’s technology and Language Badges to help its community showcase which languages they speak on their profiles to make more meaningful connections.

Bumble’s language badges enable users to make more meaningful connections

Mumbai: Bumble, the women-first dating and social networking app, has added Language Badges to help its community showcase which languages they speak on their profiles to make more meaningful connections. The dating app’s community of users can now select up to five badges from over 100 languages globally and over 30 languages in India.

As per Bumble’s internal study, people who have added at least one language badge witnessed 34 per cent increase in their matches than those who have not. Since the launch, in India, the top five most widely used language badges on Bumble profiles are English, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, and Tamil.

“With the launch of Language Badges single Indians will now be able to showcase their language preferences and communicate more easily with their potential matches. This is another way in which Bumble continues to offer single Indians opportunities to find people they are most compatible with, to make more meaningful connections,” shared Bumble India communications director Samarpita Samaddar.

Over the past year, Bumble has made several updates to its platform, including introducing 150 new interest badges in dating profiles and launching its ‘Night In’ feature, where two people can participate in an interactive game during a video chat. The company also recently launched Snap’s AR Lenses within Bumble video calls and launched video notes that utilise Snapchat’s technology.

  • Bumble partners with Bloom to create trauma support for sexual assault survivors

Bumble partners with Bloom to create trauma support for sexual assault survivors

Mumbai: Online dating application, Bumble is teaming up with Bloom, a non-profit organisation in an industry-first partnership to provide complimentary online trauma support to members of its global community, who experience sexual assault or relationship abuse.

Through this program, members of the Bumble community will have the opportunity to receive up to six therapy sessions as well as one-to-one chat support with the Bloom team. This is in addition to Bloom’s readily available library of resources created by survivors and trauma-informed therapists. If someone within the Bumble community reports sexual assault or relationship abuse to Bumble’s feedback team, they will receive a code for free access to a version of Bloom customised for Bumble users, said the platform in a statement.

Bloom is run by Chayn, a survivor-led nonprofit addressing gender-based violence by creating intersectional resources online. Chayn has championed a ‘design with, not for’ approach – their services are made for survivors by survivors. Since 2020, Chayn has built a team of qualified and trauma-informed staff in addition to their global volunteer network to deepen their outreach and services.

“The trauma caused by sexual violence can devastate survivors, but with the right support, survivors can heal and reclaim their lives,” said Chayn founder Hera Hussain. “Feedback from Bloom participants has been phenomenal. Survivors told us that it allowed them to access support for the first time, made them understand their trauma better and feel less alone, and gave them the tools and space they needed to support their healing.”

Bumble and Bloom are working together on a custom curriculum that will initially be available in English and Spanish followed by French, Hindi, Arabic, and Urdu in 2022. Survivors within the Bumble community can assist in the programming of this offering through an anonymous survey that will help shape the course content, the platform said.

“Safety has been central to Bumble’s mission from day one. We have always been guided by clear principles: empowering women and using Bumble’s platform and technology to create a safe and equitable environment for our community,” said Bumble – VP of member safety, Rachel Haas. “As someone who has dedicated their life to supporting survivors, I know the enormous impact we can have on a person’s healing by providing them with access to the support they need and deserve. We’re proud to partner with Bloom to be the first in the industry to pioneer a trauma-informed and expert-led survivor resources program.”

Bumble will begin offering the customised therapy via Bloom’s full-time staff to an initial pool of users later this year with plans to expand. The company also plans to roll out these services on Badoo next year.
