  • Disney renames video game unit to Disney Interactive Studios

     MUMBAI: Disney has announced that its video game business unit formerly known as Buena Vista Games will be renamed to Disney Interactive Studios.

    The business unit will publish both Disney and non-Disney branded video games for all platforms worldwide. Video games will be published under the company’s consumer brands including Disney, ABC and Touchstone.

    Disney Interactive Studios’ senior vice president and general manager Graham Hopper said, “This change reflects our focus on creativity, the weight of Disney content in our portfolio, and the enormous value consumers see in the Disney brand.”

    The announcement was made at the company’s investor conference in Orlando.

    Disney US signs deal with Nintendo for games

    MUMBAI: US broadcaster Disney and games firm Nintendo have announced a deal.

    Characters from shows The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Hannah Montana, American Dragon: Jake Long and That’s So Raven are available on Nintendo handheld video game systems.

    Buena Vista Games VP marketing Craig Relyea says, “This fall, kids of all ages can experience the fun of following characters from their favorite Disney Channel shows through a series of great new video games. Whether at home or traveling during the holidays, kids can enjoy these all-new adventures on the Nintendo handheld system of their choice.”

    Based on the TV show American Dragon: Jake Long and developed by WayForward, American Dragon: Attack of the Dark Dragon for the Nintendo DS lets players take control of Jake, who must punch and kick his way through an onslaught of villains to save girlfriend Rose from the Dark Dragon. American Dragon: Attack of the Dark Dragon boasts five distinct worlds with more than 20 levels. When Jake transforms into the America Dragon, players can release dragon fire, perform jump attacks, whip with a tail swipe and take flight in 3D with up to four friends in wireless mode.

    In the game based on the show Disney’s Hannah Montana 13 year-old Miley Stewart lives a double life as girl-next-door and pop sensation in the Disney Channel original show, Hannah Montana. In Disney’s Hannah Montana for the Nintendo DS, developed by DC Studios, someone is threatening to reveal Miley’s secret and it’s up to the player to determine who it is.

    Playing as Miley, gamers must use spy skills and gadgetry to investigate their school, the boardwalk, stadium and beach to uncover hidden clues and solve the mystery. Players can interact with their favorite characters from the show using a branching dialogue system while exploring familiar Hannah Montana environments, and meet hilarious new characters along the way. Mini-games include a wireless two-player skateboard, rollerblade and scooter challenge and a mode that enables players to share clothes in Miley’s secret wardrobe with others via wireless connection.

    The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Caper for the Game Boy Advance takes players on a daring adventure with the 12-year-old twins at the Tipton Hotel. The boys are on a mission…crawling, climbing, jumping, racing and wearing disguises to conquer enemy forces, when they discover a plot to steal the crown from a Teen Beauty Pageant being held at the hotel. Players control the twins independently or team up in fun-filled missions to ensure the thief is stopped and the night is a success, all while trying not to get caught.

    Developed by Handheld Games, That’s So Raven: Psychic on the Scene challenges players to solve a hare-brained mystery brought on by one of Raven’s psychic visions. Taking the role of Raven or one of her friends, Chelsea or Eddie, players must gather clues to solve the mystery, fix fashion mishaps, save friends and progress through an array of fun puzzle challenges – all in 3D and for the first time ever on the Nintendo DS.

    Players can mix and match more than 40 different outfits, hairstyles and disguises, create custom clothing styles that can be shared over the wireless connection, sew new garments, and take the driver’s seat in several mini-games.

    Disney’s BV Games adds ‘Disney Princess’ & ‘The Little Mermaid’ titles in the US

    MUMBAI: Disney Princesses and Ariel are joining the “Disney on the Go” portfolio of handheld video games. New handheld video game titles based on the Disney Princess and The Little Mermaid franchises will now be available at retail stores throughout North America. 

    The new line-up from Buena Vista Games (BVG) includes: Disney’s The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure for the Nintendo DS, Disney’s The Little Mermaid: Magic in Two Kingdoms for the Game Boy Advance and Disney Princess: Royal Adventure for the Game Boy Advance, informs an official release.

    “Inspired by the award-winning film, ‘The Little Mermaid’ handheld games provide interactive adventures that kids can take with them on-the-go,” said Buena Vista Games vice president of marketing Craig Relyea. “With the release of Disney’s new two-disc ‘The Little Mermaid’ Platinum Edition DVD today, fans of Ariel and her friends will have ample opportunities to share in the fun this holiday season.” 

    Featuring six of Disney’s beloved princesses, Disney Princess: Royal Adventure on the Game Boy Advance will be released alongside The Little Mermaid titles. 

    “Since its debut in 2000, the Disney Princess franchise has become a leading girls lifestyle brand. Building on the franchise’s popularity, the new Disney Princess: Royal Adventure game enables young girls to interact with their favorite characters in a new magical adventure,” said Relyea.

    Buena Vista Games creates video games around Disney characters

    MUMBAI: Buena Vista Games, Inc. (BVG), the interactive entertainment affiliate of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that The Cheetah Girls, Phil of the Future, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Trouble are now available.

    The Cheetah Girls and Phil of the Future are available for the Game Boy Advance. The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Trouble is available for the Nintendo DS. All three games are rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

    “Kids can take their favorite Disney Channel characters anywhere this fall with new adventures from The Cheetah Girls, Phil of the Future and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, says Buena Vista Games marketing VP Craig Relyea. “With the recent success of The Cheetah Girls 2 Disney Channel Original Movie, we are particularly excited to offer fans more ways to interact with the performers’ story.”

    In Phil of the Future, developed by Handheld Games Corp. for the Game Boy Advance, players help their favorite characters from the popular Disney Channel series save a town overrun with the mischievous pets from the future -– The Blahs. As Phil, Keeley or Curtis, players collect and assemble more than 20 futuristic gadgets to solve puzzles, overcome obstacles and capture the blahs to save the day. With several mini-games and unlockable features, Phil of the Future offers players hours of fun, states an official release.

    Join The Cheetah Girls as they dance and sing their way to a talent competition in Spain, where the top prize is a record contract. Players take on the role of each of the four Cheetah Girls –- Galleria, Chanel, Aquanetta and Dorinda, plus Galleria’s pedigree pooch, Toto. To prepare for the big gig in Barcelona, players create their own tunes in the music studio, choreograph dance moves and coordinate Cheeta-licious outfits. The game also features mini jobs for each girl — flip ribs on the grill with Aqua; teach dance with Dorinda; make music with Galleria and Toto at home or coordinate outfits at a high-end fashion store with Chanel, the release adds.

    The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Trouble is an action platform game from developer A2M, based on the Disney Channel’s popular TV show, “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. The game enables players to enter the world of Zack and Cody, 12-year-old twins who live with their mother in one of Boston’s swankiest hotels. As in the TV show, the twins attempt to save themselves from 14 outrageous situations by jumping, crawling, climbing, running and racing to Conquer enemy forces. Players can race through corridors on Zack’s skateboard, shoot various objects like water balloons, bubble gum and cream pies from Cody’s amazing vacuum, and unlock mini-games that feature two-player wireless action.
