    Int’l Emmy Awards 2024 presented on 25 November in NY city

    NEW YORK: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences  awards ceremony on the night of 25 November in New York was hosted by Indian stand up comedian and actor Vir Das but not a single Indian show or artist took home the beautiful statue (We have to try harder and producer better shows, right?)  The gala was attended by television professionals from around the world with the founders Emmy being presented to David E. Kelley, the prolific writer and producer behind iconic shows such as Ally McBeal, L.A. Law and Big Little Lies by Michael Pressman, co-executive producer of Kelley’s shows Picket Fences and Chicago Hope.

    The directorate award was presented to Gaumont CEO Sidonie Dumas by actor & producer Omar Sy, star of hit show Lupin.

    “In these turbulent times, television is definitely an art form that brings people from around the world together – no matter their culture or language.” said International Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “The International Academy is proud to recognize these outstanding programs and performances.”
    In addition to the two special awards, 14 Emmy statues were presented by the International Academy during the evening.

    2023 International Emmy winners announced

    Mumbai: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented Emmys to television creators and performers from nine countries at the 51st International Emmy Awards tonight in New York City. The Gala was attended by television professionals from around the world and hosted by actor & comedian Rhys Darby.

    The special Founders Emmy was presented to Jesse Armstrong, creator of the hit HBO show “Succession” by HBO and Max Content  chairman and CEO  Casey Bloys.

    The Directorate Award was presented to Balaji Telefilms co-founder Ektaa R. Kapoor by Dr. Deepak Chopra.

    “In a tumultuous time, television again proves to be a common denominator for people around the world.” said International Academy president & CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “The International Academy is proud to shine a global spotlight on these outstanding programs and performances.”

    In addition to the two special awards, 15 Emmy statues were presented by the International Academy during the evening.

    The 15 winning International Emmy programs and performances are: Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On (arts programming), Martin Freeman (best performance by an actor), Karla Souza (best performance by an actress), TIE Derry Girls – Season 3 and Vir Das: Landing (comedy), Mariupol: The People’s Story (documentary), The Empress (drama series), The Smeds and The Smoos (kids: animation), Built To Survive (kids: factual & entertainment), Heartbreak High (kids: live action), Harley & Katya (sports documentary), A Ponte – The Bridge Brasil (non-scripted entertainment), Des Gens Bien Ordinaires [A Very Ordinary World] (short-form series), Yargi (Telenovela) and La Caida [Dive] (TV Movie/Mini-Series).

    Karla Souza accepted the Emmy for Best Performance by an Actress for her role as Olympic diver Mariel, in La Caida [Dive].

    Mumbai: CJ Group vice chairwoman Miky Lee will receive the International Academy’s 2022 Directorate Emmy Award. The announcement was made by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences president and CEO, Bruce L. Paisner.

    The International Academy’s Special Emmy will be presented to Lee at the 50th International Emmy Awards Gala on 21 November 2022, in New York City.

    Paisner said, “Miky Lee is in a class of her own, a visionary leader who has harnessed her exceptional business acumen and love of her country’s culture by tirelessly spearheading the global phenomenon of the Korean wave for over twenty-five years. The whole world witnessed her commitment to our industry and Korea when she, along with the creators of “Parasite,” enthusiastically accepted the Oscar for her company’s award-winning film “Parasite,” a historic milestone for Korean content.”

    CJ’s presence was strengthened by leading the global phenomenon of the Korean wave, starting with the investment by DreamWorks SKG in 1995, which was a monumental moment in the company’s transformation from a food company to an entertainment business. In fact, she was the key driving force behind K-Pop’s global success, creating and growing KCON, the world’s No. 1 K-culture festival that celebrates Korean culture and music. In 2019, she was executive producer of “Parasite,” the first foreign language film in history to win the Best Picture Oscar. Since 2020, she has been serving as vice chair of the board of trustees of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Lee is the grandchild of Lee Byung-Chul (the founder of CJ and the Samsung Group).

    Mumbai: The International Academy of Television Arts And Sciences has announced that Ava DuVernay will receive the 2022 International Emmy Founders Award. The American film and television director, writer and producer will receive the honour at the 50th International Emmy Awards Gala on 21 November 2022 in New York City.

    DuVernay has been nominated for her work on the Netflix’s mini-series When they See Us, based on the infamous Central Park Five case, which portrayed the injustices brought by police treatment of five falsely accused teens to the attention of millions of people around the world, as well as for her work at her production company Array. Along with credits including historical drama Selma, the documentary “13th”, and the movie Disney’s “Wrinkle in Time,” she became the highest-grossing black woman director ever at the US box office.

    In a statement, International Academy president and CEO Bruce L. Paisner said, “Ava DuVernay is a force of nature and this is reflected in the remarkable scope and volume of her work. She makes significant films and television programs, she uses her platform to reshape our industry and continues to lead a career-long effort to bolster women and people of colour in entertainment and ensure inclusivity. We look forward to honouring her extraordinary talent and a prolific decade of leadership at Array, with our Founders Award.”

    On receiving the honour, DuVernay said, “This honour from the International Academy of Television Arts And Sciences is unexpected and wildly appreciated. I thank the organisation for recognising my work and salute their efforts to ensure that storytellers of all backgrounds are amplified and celebrated.”

    John Oliver to host International Emmy Awards gala in New York

    MUMBAI: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has got comedian/writer John Oliver on board to host the 41st International Emmy Awards Gala, on 25 November at the Hilton New York Hotel.

     

    The man who made his mark as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and sat in for him in the hosting chair over the summer, will host the event for the first time.

     

    “We’re delighted to have John Oliver and his unique comedic talent headlining our Gala this year,” said International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences president and CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “We are delighted John is following up his very successful hosting of the Daily Show with the International Emmys.”

     

    After being a writer and correspondent for the Daily Show with Jon Stewart since 2006, Oliver filled in Stewart’s seat as guest host this summer for two months. Oliver has been nominated as a writer for both Emmys and Writers Guild Awards and has won the Breakout Award at the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. His most recent credits also include hosting four seasons of his own stand up series for Comedy Central, John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show. Along with Andy Zaltzman, he also writes and hosts the weekly podcast The Bugle.

     

    Over 1,000 international media and entertainment executives convene on New York each year for the International Emmy Awards Gala. In addition to the presentation of Emmy Awards for programming, the Academy will present two special awards.

     

    Film and television creator/writer/director J.J. Abrams will come to New York to receive the 2013 International Emmy Founders Award. RTL Group Co-CEO and RTL CEO Germany Anke Schäferkordt will receive the 2013 International Emmy Directorate Award.

     

    This year’s Gala partners are: Phoenix Satellite Television, TV Globo, Microsoft, Dori Media Group, Ernst & Young, Deluxe, Mipcom, Sofitel Luxury Hotels and Variety.

    2013 Intl Digital Emmy Awards nominees announced

    MUMBAI: The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced that nominees from 10 countries will compete for this year‘s International Digital Emmy Awards.

    There are 12 nominees in three categories, Digital Programme: Children and Young People; Digital Programme: Fiction and Digital Programme: Non-Fiction.

    All nominated programmes will be showcased at MipCube, during a session, sponsored by the Bell Fund of Canada and designed to give MIPTV participants the opportunity to see excerpts of the programmes and meet the nominees.

    International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences president, CEO Bruce L Paisner said, “The 2013 Digital Emmy Award nominees present a global snapshot of today‘s most creative and well produced digital programming. This year, we are delighted that they will be available for all MIPTV attendees to discover at MIPCube.”

    Winners will be presented with their Emmys at The International Digital Emmy Awards ceremony, sponsored by the Bell Fund of Canada, during MipTV‘s Opening night festivities on 8 April in Cannes. Over 200 international executives across all sectors of the mobile, entertainment, and internet industries, are expected to attend.

    MUMBAI: The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Iatas) has announced the 2010 International Emmy Awards winners for its News and Current Affairs categories.

    UK coverage of The Taliban in Pakistan won in both categories. Sky News Pakistan-Terrors‘ Front Line presenting exclusive coverage revealing that the Taliban are in control of a large part of Pakistan, won the News Category. Dispatches – Pakistan‘s Taliban Generation, a special produced by October Film for Channel 4, which investigates how the war on terror is creating a generation of child terrorists- both inside and outside Pakistan, won the Current Affairs Category.

    Iatas president and CEO Bruce L Paisner says, “We congratulate the men and women behind these ground-breaking reports. Despite the danger surrounding them, they are committed to journalistic excellence and we are pleased to be recognising their outstanding work with an Emmy.”

    Nominees for 10 other International Emmy Awards categories will be announced on 4 October at the television trade event Mipcom in Cannes, France. Winners will receive their awards at the 38th International Emmy Awards Gala on 22 November in New York City.

    MUMBAI: The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Iatas) has announced the 2009 International Emmy Awards winners for its News and Current Affairs categories.

     

    In the news category, ‘The ITV News-‘ for UK won the best award for it’s China earthquake coverage, one of the biggest earthquakes in China in the last 30 years.

     

    Meanwhile, ‘Dispatches – Saving Africa’s Witch Children’, a special produced by Red Rebel Films and Oxford Scientific Films for Channel 4 (UK) depicting the plight of Nigerian children accused of being witches, won the Current Affairs Category.

     

    “We congratulate the international reporters and production teams behind these two riveting stories for achieving the difficult task of giving a voice to human drama while crossing cultural boundaries.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

     

    Nominees for 10 other International Emmy Awards categories will be announced on 5 October at the television trade event Mipcom in Cannes, France. Winners will receive their awards at the 37th International Emmy Awards Gala on 23 November in New York City.
