IPL6 takes Max to the top of the GRP charts

MUMBAI: It‘s not only Gayle, Bravo and Pollard who have been hitting the maximum in the sixth season of the Indian Premier League. Sony Max has trumped Star India‘s flagship Hindi general entertainment channel Star Plus to take the lead in the GRP race for week 17 of TAM.

As per TAM data (C&S, 4+, HSM) provided by Max, the channel has notched 248 GRPs in the fourth week of the tournament, making it the number one channel in India. Star Plus managed to collect 215 GRPs (last week 233) in the week ended 27 April.

Meanwhile, Max and Sony Six collectively garnered 304 GRPs.

The tournament also continues to beat all competition in prime time. Pepsi IPL‘s average primetime viewership is at 3.6 TVR as compared to Star Plus‘s 2.0 TVR, Colors 1.6 and Zee TV at 1.7 TVR in the Hindi Speaking Market (HSM).

Pepsi IPL 6 also registered a reach of 168 million viewers in just four weeks and has already surpassed the total reach of any of the previous editions of the league. Sony Max EVP and business head Neeraj Vyas said, “Our ratings of this week reiterate the fact that Pepsi IPL 2013 is the biggest entertainer of the year. We are indeed delighted to see that it has already achieved such incredible reach just halfway through the tournament. We are thrilled that it continues to offer spectacular entertainment to our viewers and unparalleled value to our partners.”

NBCU sells $1 bn worth ad inventory for Olympics

MUMBAI: NBCUniversal has said it has sold $1 billion worth of national television and digital advertising for the London Olympics $150 million more than what it made in the previous edition.

The ad total includes sales from across NBCU portfolio, including NBC itself, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Telemundo, the NBC Sports Network, NBCOlympics.com, mobile apps and a new 3D channel.

NBCU said its decision to live stream every athletic competition on NBCOlympics.com and, for the first time, on the NBC Olympics Live Extra app for both mobile devices and tablets, significantly contributed to NBCU’s ability to reach $1 billion.

It will stream more than 3,500 hours of content including all 32 sports and 302 medals.

Digital ad sales for London have exceeded $60 million, roughly three times more than the total for Beijing when NBCOlympics.com alone live streamed 2,200 hours and 25 sports. National television ad sales for London games account for more than $950 million, up approximately $100 million from Beijing.

NBCUniversal is presenting 5,535 total hours of coverage of the 2012 London Olympics across NBC, NBC Sports Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Telemundo, NBCOlympics.com, the NBC Olympics Live Extra mobile and tablet app, two specialty channels, and the first-ever 3D platform, an unprecedented level that surpasses the coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics by nearly 2,000 hours.

“This feat is a testimony to the quality of Olympic programming and the unparalleled way NBCU presents, produces and covers the Games,” NBC Sports Group EVP, Sales & Sales Marketing Seth Winter said in a statement. “It also demonstrates the power of the Olympics. No other property has such as diverse group of sponsors, who can target the broadest range of demographic and psychographic audiences. We are not done yet and will continue to sell during the Games.”

NBC Universal introduces interactive talk show

MUMBAI: This is a concept by US media conglomerate NBC Universal that looks to make a television show more encompassing through a presence across differnt platforms.

The NBC Universal Television Stations, iVillage and the Universal Orlando Resort, have joined forces to create daytime’s first interactive talk show. It will be made available simultaneously on air, online and in front of a live studio audience.

Shot at Universal Orlando Resort iVillage Live will build on the iVillage brand and connect content, community and commerce in a new experience for the daytime audience. The show launches Monday, December 4 at Noon/ET (11a.m/CT) on the NBC owned-and-operated stations, Bravo and iVillageLive.com.

NBCU Television Stations president Jay Ireland says, “We’re thrilled to add ‘iVillage Live’ to our daytime schedule. This is a new model we developed for daytime programming in terms of its concept, content, interactivity and brand. The 360-degree premise allows our viewers to interact with the show in the way that best suits them; a true programming first for today’s digital age. We believe in this show’s potential and look forward to building its audience.”

iVillage president Deborah Fine says, “For over ten years, iVillage.com’s loyal audience of women have been connecting online to laugh, learn and share life’s moments. iVillage Live’ is a ground-breaking programme, which enables our community to extend their conversation in a revolutionary way — on-air, online and even in person. It is a key component in our effort to bring our noted brand to the marketplace in a unprecedented, multi-platform manner.”

Audience participation takes place through the dedicated website, iVillageLive.com, which is housed on iVillage.com, and has been specifically designed to maximize community involvement in the program. In addition to the live show stream, the site will host a daily live chat, portions of which will be discussed during the broadcast and scroll along the bottom of the television screen during relevant moments.

A second live chat will take place at Noon/PT allowing west coast viewers to lend their voices to the conversation. A daily poll question and audience comment box will stay open for 24 hours to invite participation and influence the next day’s coverage.

Viewers on the go can interact with iVillage Live via their mobile phone by texting IVL 360 to ask questions and share comments during the programme, as well as sign up for show reminders, news alerts, ringtones and wallpaper. On-demand access is available through the website, which will make that day’s show available for 24 hours after the initial broadcast. After that, visitors to the site can easily search for past episodes of the show, which will be archived by date, segment and topic.

iVillage Live will also work closely with its advertising partners to create unique product integration and e-commerce opportunities. The charter sponsors, including Bally Total Fitness; Calphalon; The Estee Lauder Companies, including Aramis & Designer Fragrances, Clinique, Estee Lauder and Origins, among others; GE Profile Appliances; Goody; Graco; Healthy Choice; Overstock.com; Priceline.com and Unilever, will participate in on-air segments, when appropriate, to round out the show and offer value to viewers. On the site, users will have access to a gateway where they can buy the sponsors’ products in real time, while also engaged in the program.

iVillage Live also marks the first time a theme park is being used as the permanent home for a daily, live talk show. The resort will add to the overall show experience in terms of audience, location, set and content. Universal Orlando draws visitors from all over the world, giving iVillage Live the potential to have one of the most internationally diverse studio audiences in daytime.

The Park’s former “Toon Amphitheater” has been transformed into a space that fits with the interactive nature of the show, including the installation of audience polling devices attached to each seat.

James Lipton sits down for a candid tell-all of Hoffman’s life and career as one of the most prominent actors of his time. In India, the show airs on Pix.

For the uninitiated, the interview based show is hosted by James Lipton. He has interviewed some of the world’s most accomplished actors and directors for interviews. What is unqiue about the show is that it is taped in front of students at The Actors Studio Drama School. In addition to his duties as host, Lipton is also the dean of the school.

Dwelling on his bad audition for his breakthrough role in The Graduate Hoffmann recalls, “I went to shake the prop guy’s hand, and all my subway tokens fell out of my pocket. And he picked them up and handed them back to me, saying, ‘Here kid, you’re gonna need these.”

As far as what motivates him to act, Hopffmann says, “A friend told me to take acting, and I asked him ‘Why? I don’t want to act.’ And he said ‘Because no one failed acting.’”
