ICICI Lombard encourages women to #BajaoTaaliSehatWali at Kumbh Mela

MUMBAI: To help the women in taking health matters in their own hands, quite literally, this Kumbh, ICICI Lombard launched a unique wellness-focused initiative #BajaoTaaliSehatWali.

Targeted at women pilgrims participating in the ritual of bhajan-kirtan, ICICI Lombard came up with a unique idea of using the ‘clapping therapy’ as a medium of improving their overall health. To this extent, the insurer designed “Clapping Gloves”, an innovative product equipped with the protrusions on the inside that activated the acupressure points with every clap.

As per the brand, the majority of these women attendees are either housewives or women involved in heavy manual labour for whom their own health is the last thing in the list of priorities. Many, due to sheer negligence of their health, suffer from rheumatic, coronary and several other diseases.

Continuous clapping for 20 minutes, using these gloves equipped with protrusions, helps in improving overall blood circulation, digestion, eyesight, and other vital organ functions with the help of acupressure therapy. Additionally, the gloves also act as a good cover against the freezing weather at Kumbh.

Speaking about this campaign, ICICI Lombard General Insurance executive director Sanjeev Mantri said, “Rural women in India are always occupied in tending to their kitchen, their children and their family thus seldom paying attention to their own health. Most of these women who visit holy places get an inadvertent break from these household chores. Under our overarching Wellness theme, we wanted to use this opportunity during the Kumbh Mela, to safeguard the health of millions of women. The idea was to convert a common act of clapping into a wellness deed. With the overwhelming response that we have received at Kumbh, we expanding this initiative to the rural areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan. What started off at Kumbh promises India’s women to get healthier with one clap at a time. We urge every woman to #BajaoTaaliSehatWali and live a happy and healthy life.”

ICICI Lombard’s “Clapping Gloves” campaign is a part of the overall #DoTheDifficult initiative under the umbrella of the wellness program of the company, with the objective to promote, incentivize and reward the public at large by helping them adopt healthy behaviour.

  • Geometry Encompass, HUL address sanitation at Kumbh Mela 2019

Geometry Encompass, HUL address sanitation at Kumbh Mela 2019

MUMBAI: To address the issue of sanitation, Geometry Encompass conceptualised and created four campaigns for Hindustan Unilever’s home and personal care brands, namely Active Wheel, Lifebuoy, and Vim at the ongoing Kumbh Mela.

For Active Wheel, it surrounded its campaign around Kalpavas – a 30-day period of living in austerity and following a fixed schedule to transform the inner consciousness. Geometry Encompass recognised that it was a big challenge for the Kalpvasis to wear fresh clothes every day and thus conceptualised a unique ‘Wheel Wash-o-Cycle’ – a drum attached to a bicycle, which rotated on pedalling the cycle, recreating the function of a washing machine. Devotees simply had to fill the drum with water, add their clothes, sprinkle Active Wheel detergent powder, and pedal for 10-12 minutes, to enjoy fresh, clean clothes, free of cost.

Two such Wheel Wash Stations were set up at the Kalpavasi tent city, each with more than 20 installations of ‘Wheel Wash-o-Cycle’, which use no electricity, save water, and can be easily used by anyone. Active Wheel also ensured an adequate supply of clean water and drainage systems in place. Through this, over 30,000 devotees were able to enjoy the comfort of fresh clothes during the Kumbh Mela. The brand has decided to donate the Wheel Wash-o-Cycles to nearby villages, post Kumbh, thereby continuing to make a difference in people’s lives. Active Wheel will also train the villagers to make the machine themselves, thus reducing the effort needed for manually washing clothes and empowering women to realise their ‘Fresh Soch’. By these efforts, Wheel hopes to help women realise their own dreams and entrepreneurial aspirations, and even earn revenue that they can help their families with.

Geometry Encompass took the agenda of ensuring sanitation at the Kumbh Mela a step further when it worked with Lifebuoy and conceptualised two innovative campaigns to remind devotees to wash their hands after using the restroom as well as before eating their meals.

In the first campaign, they developed an innovative ink after 3 months of rigorous research and testing. The ink was developed into a stamp which becomes an active reminder to wash hands. A visual red stamp was marked by over 150 Lifebuoy representatives who stamped 10,000 hands per day. As the devotees put their hands under a tap, the stamp lathered into soap and helped provide superior germ protection, ensuring a hygienic stay at the Kumbh. As a result, there were several attendees who approached promoters to have their hands re-stamped for later, and used a total of 3 lakh stamps to wash 6 lakh hands over the 30 days activity.

Taking it one notch higher, Geometry Encompass and Lifebuoy distributed thalis, which were engraved with a message – ‘Kripaya pehle sabun se haath dhoyein’ (please wash your hands with soap first). The Lifebuoy branding was a part of the thalis which were distributed at meal centres, to be washed and reused, effectively delivering the message to millions of visitors. Lifebuoy also addressed the issue of washing one’s hands after visiting the washroom by stamping the hands of those using public restrooms with an ink that had a layer of soap on it. The ink dissolved on contact with water, ensuring their hands were washed thoroughly.

Appreciating Lifebuoy’s efforts, ACMO Dr VK Mishra, nodal officer sanitation Kumbh Mela Prayagraj said, “We appreciate the role played by Lifebuoy as ‘Swasthya Sehbhagi’ (Hygiene Partner) in this grand event to spread the message of hygiene and sanitation. We are hopeful that these initiatives will help drive a behavioral change among the masses.”

Geometry Encompass also highlighted the efficacy of Vim dishwashing soap by replacing mirrors in public restrooms with thalis washed with the brand. The plates were so clean and shiny that the reflective surfaces acted like mirrors.

Speaking on the successful conceptualisation and execution of these campaigns, Geometry Encompass CEO Sukrit Singh said, “These campaigns are testament to a fulfilling two decade long partnership with HUL. I am proud that this partnership beyond the realm of advertising, is focusing on behavioural change instead. We, at Geometry-Encompass, strive to create pivotal consumer experiences in all the work we do. The year has just begun and we have already rolled out two of the most talked about campaigns at the Kumbh, I can’t wait for everyone to see what else we have in store!”

Geometry Encompass managing partner Shankar Shinde said, “Geometry Encompass collaborated with HUL to play a pivotal role in creating impactful, purpose driven campaigns during Kumbh 2019. Be it the Lifebuoy Hygiene Stamp – that washes away germs and preconceived notions about personal hygiene and handwashing, or the Wheel Wash-o-Cycle, that inculcates the philosophy of “Pehno Fresh and Socho Fresh”. Fresh thinking is optimising the mundane task of washing clothes, encouraging women to fulfil their dreams in the time saved. These campaigns, embedded with a strong purpose of helping consumers at large, have helped create a lasting impact for HUL at the Kumbh.”

Geometry Encompass executive creative director Arpan Jain added, “Being committed to inspiring action through behaviour and experience-led ideas, we’re constantly trying to move away from the idea of ‘sheep dipping’ people in a brand, and instead, focusing on creating behavioural change. While we recognise that habits do not change by just spreading the word; we also need to provide the right reasoning and tools at the right moment! With our Wheel Wash-o-Cycle and Lifebuoy Stamp of Hygiene campaigns, we are doing just that, providing consumers the right reasons and tools to enable behavioural change.”

  • Ogilvy & Bajaj Platina ComforTec 110 offer ‘Aaram Rath’ Rides at Kumbh 2019

Ogilvy & Bajaj Platina ComforTec 110 offer ‘Aaram Rath’ Rides at Kumbh 2019

MUMBAI:  Taking the proposition of ‘Jhatka Mana Hai’ , Bajaj has introduced the ‘Platina ComforTec 110 Aaram Rath’ at the 2019 edition of Kumbh Mela, the largest human congregation in the world. Organised in collaboration with Ogilvy, the ‘Aaram Rath’ is offering free ride services to the elderly and disabled pilgrims. At its core, the activity was designed to increase brand love.

All Bajaj Platinas were retrofitted with custom-designed backrests that support the pillion on the back as well as the side for added feeling of safety. Engineering of this backrest was done keeping the one-sided seating especially suited for sari-clad women.

Bajaj Auto vice president Narayan Sundararaman said, "With the new Bajaj Platina Comfortec 110, our focus has been to deliver the most comfortable ride experience in the category. No doubt that the motorcycle has much better power, acceleration, pick-up and braking. But a Platina stands for comfort. When we encountered this opportunity, we were clear that this activity will bring relief to people in need of help to reach the ghats, and that Platina is the right vehicle of choice for it. From there on, we worked on retro-fitting a secure two-sided back rest specially made for the audience. We are thrilled that this activity has been so well received. I can only imagine the countless blessings we have gathered along the way."

Ogilvy India (West) office leader VR Rajesh noted, "It is not often that we get an opportunity of this scale and this nature. Kumbh Mela attracts people of myriad backgrounds and geographies. The locales and crowds make it very difficult for devotees to access different parts of the Kumbh city and the ghats. This is the challenge that excites us the most. Amongst all our brands, we picked Bajaj Platina as the perfect fit for the application. In our concrete jungles, Bajaj's Platina transports millions daily. All done in supreme comfort. In our latest film 'Jhatka Mana Hai' we made Platina the protagonist that is positioned to increase brand love for Bajaj. At Kumbh, Platina is the only two-wheeler that is saving the effort of navigating distances and crowds for thousands of needy. This is a perfect fit that will pave the way for many more such applications."

Along the route allotted (Phaphamau Bus Stand to Naagvasuki Temple, Prayagraj) from where the Platina rider who is fondly called the ‘Aaram Rath Saarthi’ would ferry the old pilgrims and ride them safely to the Sangam Nose (confluence of the 3 sacred rivers) or the bathing ghats for a dip and also ride them back to the spot from where they were picked-up i.e bus stop on the outskirts of Kumbh which connects the whole of Prayagraj to the Kumbh City.

The authorities at Kumbh gave a green signal to this activity and were all praise offering their complete support and co-operation.

Through this activation, the brand aims to inculcate the habit of safe disposal of waste and gives pilgrims an opportunity to respect & protect the environment.

The Kumbh Mela is the largest human gathering on earth as it receives a footfall of over 15 crore pilgrims. It is estimated that every year, more than 200 tonnes of garbage is generated at the Kumbh Mela. Most of this waste does not end up in dustbins and poses various health risks.

  • Hamam ushers in Basant Panchami by providing waterproof sarees at Kumbh

Hamam ushers in Basant Panchami by providing waterproof sarees at Kumbh

MUMBAI: To extend its #GoSafeOutside campaign that aims to empower women with skills and means to counter their vulnerability, Hamam initiated a unique campaign by designing special waterproof sarees for Kumbh 2019.

The brand shared in a press statement, “Hamam believes in helping women #GoSafeOutside by empowering them with skills and means to counter their vulnerability. Extending its initiative to the Kumbh 2019, the brand started its journey by sponsoring women-only changing rooms at the ghats. But soon realized that this is not enough, as the walk to the changing room after the dip in the river is when polyester or cotton saris are wet and clinging, leaving women most vulnerable to unsolicited attention and even pictures.”

The release further stated, “Working with brand partner, Ogilvy India, Hamam has created a simple yet effective solution – Waterproof Sarees for women which form a large part of the Kumbh gathering! The same sari that the women are used to, but with a simple layer of waterproofing treatment that makes the fabric aquaphobic. This makes it an ideal clothing option for women devotees taking a holy dip at the Holy Sangam.”

Sharing insights into Hamam’s objective behind the waterproof sarees initiative, Unilever general manager, skin cleansing India Harman Dhillon said, “Hamam feels a sense of responsibility towards making a positive difference not just to people’s skin, but also to their daily lives. Through our #GoSafeOutside positioning, we want to help improve the sense of safety people feel when they are outside: by raising awareness, kick-starting conversations and facilitating solutions. The waterproof sarees at Kumbh are not just a solution to help preserve the modesty of female pilgrims, they are also a shout out to society to be more respectful and discrete about their view of women. If men have the right to take the holy dip without the worry of unsolicited attention, society needs to adjust its mindset to allow women to do the same without being self-conscious.”

Chief creative officer and the man behind the waterproof sarees Sukesh Nayak noted, “Under our #GoSafeOutside platform, we initiated ‘The Waterproof Sarees’ at Khumbh. An innovative way of helping women preserve their modesty while taking the holy dip. Helping them take a bath in the river in the open without worrying about the prying eyes.”
