  • Angelina Jolie was married to Brad Pitt even before wedding in France

Angelina Jolie was married to Brad Pitt even before wedding in France

MUMBAI: Last year in August, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt married in an intimate and low-key ceremony in France, attended by only close family members. The wedding was planned by the couple’s six children – Pax, Zahara, Vivienne, Shiloh, Knox and Maddox. The kids wrote the marital vows and their drawings even adorned Jolie’s Versace wedding gown.

Interestingly in a recent interview to the Italian magazine Io Donna, Jolie confessed that she had actually been married to Pitt even before the summer wedding.

She said, “Before the wedding in France with the kids, Brad and I were already married in California because as Americans, we couldn’t marry legally in France.”

Jolie told the magazine that it was probably not the most romantic wedding but a rather spontaneous decision.

She added, “One day I told Brad to meet up at 4:30pm.  I then called a justice of the peace and we signed the documents.”

The Pitts said ‘I Do’ at their French estate, Chateau Mirval, in a ceremony presided over by a judge from California after they obtained their license in California. This confirmation comes after many had suspected they were already married before the ceremony due to U.S. laws which require citizens to obtain a license within the states.

Angelina Jolie to direct Richard Leakey biopic on ivory poaching

MUMBAI: Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie is all set to direct a new film, a biopic of Kenyan politician and conservationist Richard Leakey and his battle to save the elephants of Kenya from the illegal ivory trade.

Titled Africa, the story has been penned by the Forest Gump screenwriter Eric Roth. It will focus on Leakey’s fight against ivory poachers in the 1980s when he was the head of the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS).

Leakey, who is the son of the famous anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey, is the former head of the Kenya Wildlife Service, and is known for taking a hardline stance against the country’s poachers. Working with Kenya’s then-President, Daniel Arap Moi, Leakey spearheaded the creation of armed anti-poaching units. During his time as the KWS chairman he ordered rangers to shoot any poachers they found.

He made international headlines in 1989, after a stockpile of 12 tonnes of ivory, worth an estimated three million dollars, was burned in Nairobi National Park.

In recent years, Leakey has continued to campaign against the slaughter of African wildlife, founding the charitable organisation ‘WildlifeDirect’, which provides support to conservationists working in Africa.

Africa will be produced by Jolie, Man of Steel‘s Jon Peters and Skydance Productions. The cinematographer for the movie is Roger Deakins, an eleven-time Oscar nominee known for the Coen brothers’ No Country For Old Men.

Africa would be Jolie’s fourth film as a director, following 2011’s In the Land of Blood and Honey, a romance set during the Bosnian War, Unbroken, the story of the Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini, which is due in theaters on Christmas Day and her latest movie By the Sea. Jolie serves as writer-director and star alongside her husband, Brad Pitt in the movie which is slated for a 2015 release.

Brangelina’s secret wedding: Jolie’s father not invited

MUMBAI: After nine years of togetherness and six children later, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on 23 August at Chateau Miraval, France.

Keeping the whole thing under wraps, while everybody else was preoccupied with the VMA Awards and the Emmy Awards, Pitt and Jolie got their marriage licence in California, and got married in front of a very small group of friends and family.

According to media reports, along with the rest of the world, Jolie’s father, the veteran actor Jon Voight was also unaware of this event. When asked about the wedding, the actor told TMZ that he first read about them via an online news site.

Jolie and Voight have had a turbulent relationship in the past. Back in 2001, Voight announced that Jolie had been suffering from ‘serious mental problems’ and said that he had urged her to seek professional help. They eventually reconciled in 2011.

Asked whether he was upset not to be invited, he responded by saying he was busy with the Emmy Awards anyway, having been nominated for a prize for his portrayal of the character Mickey Donovan in TV series Ray Donovan.

According to the reports, talking about the wedding he also said, “I’m very happy that I can legitimately call him my son-in-law, this wonderful fellow who I love, you know what, they are very happy. The kids must have had a wonderful time at the wedding, they all had their things to do and it must have been very beautiful so I’m very happy for them.”

Jolie reportedly walked down the aisle with her eldest sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, on each arm while her daughters Zahara and Vivienne threw petals, and Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers.

The secret wedding seems to have been a quiet affair although Brad’s brother Doug Pitt, sister Julie Neal and their respective families are believed to have been there.

MUMBAI: It was great moment for the Hollywood fraternity to see two of their best actors — Julia Roberts and George Clooney — come together on stage and appreciate each other.

At the 2013 BAFTA LA Awards on Saturday night, Roberts, who co-starred with Clooney in Ocean’s Eleven presented the 52-year-old with the Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film.

Reportedly, Julia was in a very jolly mood when she came on stage. She joked: “There are two obvious reasons why I was chosen to do this: one, Brad Pitt was out of town. Two, Matt Damon, he’s in town, but he was unavailable.”

However, the actor took a serious turn to praise Clooney, who has been her co-actor, director and producer too. “All of which he is immeasurably gifted at,” she said.

How could Clooney not have reciprocated? He equally appreciated the Pretty Woman actor. “It has been such a pleasure to watch the woman you have become. It’s very hard for me to be just straight nice because she’ll get me later. But just an amazing mother, an amazing wife and a great, great friend. It’s really an honour to have her here.”

And they had a nice evening even after they stepped down from the stage. They sat next to each other and were seen laughing and chatting.
