Reliance MediaWorks enhance the visual appeal of ‘Krrish 3’

MUMBAI: Reliance MediaWorks have done the color grading and digital intermediate for Krrish 3. The most eagerly awaited superhero movie that is expected to sparkle at the box office this Diwali.

Krrish 3 is the third in the franchise that began with 2003 hit sci-fi movie Koi…Mil Gaya, Krrish 3 will take forward the story of the superhero Krrish, played by Hrithik Roshan.

Creative choices of color play was an extremely important role in storytelling, especially for a sci-fi film like Krrish 3 where Hrithik will take on evil mutants and save the world from destruction in his superhero avatar.

Speaking on the same Reliance MediaWorks CEO Venkatesh Roddam said: “Krissh 3 was not an easy film as it came with a huge legacy. In Krrish 3 it was important to create a consistent look and feel to the story overall. Krrish 3 provided a great opportunity for us to showcase the diverse skills within the businesses and further reinforced our position as a fully integrated high-end facility.”

The color timing helped define locations and enhance and ensure the mood of scenes worked and that the entire movie flowed. On top of color timing, were added, a lot of little nuances fine-tuning on the image such as enhancing the mutant’s traits like the color of the tongue and the eye’s iris details. But most of the detailing time was utilised to ensure the realistic integration of the VFX. Hrithik and Rakesh took a very active role in the DI process ensuring their high vision was reached.

Commenting on the same, Krrish 3 producer and director Rakesh Roshan said: “I am thrilled and enthusiastic about Krrish 3. This project has all the insightful and risqué visuals we have come to expect from the franchise. I was very confident that Reliance MediaWorks was the “Go to” place for DI and colour grading.  True to expectation they have made Krrish 3 one of the most memorable movies of all time.”

Rakesh Roshan’s vision, coupled with stunning visuals, has turned the franchise into a thrillingly audacious mix of grand storytelling and powerful and provocative themes.

With the advent of technology image quality gets superior and thereby the minutest of details need to be highlighted appropriately, which is where a sci-fi film becomes creatively challenging and demands more techno-creative expertise. Add to it the brand value of the Krrish franchise makes working on the project a fruitful experience.

  • Raanjhanaa director shake hands with Dhanush for his next film

Raanjhanaa director shake hands with Dhanush for his next film

Director Anand L Rai, whose Raanjhanaa generated good response at the box office, is coming up with another romantic film and is currently working on the script.

The making of script is currently under process, and if sources are to be believed by Diwali, Rai will be in a position to talk about the project.

Raanjhanaa was a story of a Hindu Banarasi boy falling in love with a Muslim girl and giving away his life for her.

Rai who thinks that people have lost faith in love, strongly feels that one way of keeping the romance alive is through films. He feels sad (to) see this as love is an integral part of life

‘Kolaveri Di’-fame south star Dhanush, who made his Bollywood debut with Raanjhanaa, will be working together with Rai again for a film, tentatively from the same genre.

To top it all, his one more project is the sequel to 2011 romcom Tanu Weds Manu. However, Rai did not elaborate on this piece.

  • Flopped The Lone Ranger to cost Disney $190 million

Flopped The Lone Ranger to cost Disney $190 million

MUMBAI: As per the reports, Disney CFO Jay Rasulo has informed that the company is likely to incur a loss of about $160 – $190 million next quarter as a result of The Lone Ranger‘s weak box office run.

The Gore Verbinski-directed western, which stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, cost at least $215 million to produce but has only earned $175.5 million worldwide (it‘s only opened in about 40 percent of international markets) since its release on 3 July. Domestically, the film has earned $86.9 million – a larger total than Disney‘s 2012 mega-flop John Carter, which topped out at $73.1 million, but an alarmingly low one nonetheless.

For Disney, the loss hurts, but it isn‘t crippling. The company‘s portfolio now includes cash cows like Pixar, Marvel, and the Star Wars empire, the former two of which already delivered massive returns this summer with Iron Man 3 and Monsters University grossing $1.2 billion and $614 million worldwide. And Disney recognises that its plan to produce fewer movies but make them all tentpoles is a high-risk/high reward business. “This branded tentpole strategy of ours, it‘s 100 percent what we‘re looking to do and what we want to be,” said Disney executive VP of distribution Dave Hollis, following The Lone Ranger‘s disappointing opening weekend.

  • The Wolverine had plenty of bark at the box office, and just enough bite

The Wolverine had plenty of bark at the box office, and just enough bite

MUMBAI: The sixth installment of the X-Men franchise clawed its way to $55 million this weekend, according to studio estimates from box-office trackers Hollywood.com.

While the debut was plenty to win the weekend – there were no other major newcomers as studios cleared a path for the comic-book adaptation – the opening fell short of analysts’ projections, which called for a bow of at least $65 million.

Still, it snapped the string of high-priced live-action films that couldn’t claim the weekend crown. Last week, the $20 million horror flick The Conjuring opened to $42 million, crushing the $130 million supernatural film R.I.P.D., which debuted to a dismal $13 million. Similarly, Pacific Rim ($37 million), The Lone Ranger ($29 million) and White House Down ($25 million) opened well below projections, falling to cheaper movies and animated films.

While Wolverine’s opening was solid for a sixth franchise installment, analysts wondered whether moviegoers are suffering mutant fatigue. The previous Wolverine film, 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, debuted to $85 million.

But the new film resonated with viewers, which could help its run through a typically arid August at theaters. About 68 per cent of critics gave Wolverine a thumbs-up, and the movie scored an A-minus from moviegoers, says grading site CinemaScore.

Among the holdovers, Conjuring took second with $22.1 million, followed by the animated comedy Despicable Me 2 with $16 million.

The animated Turbo was fourth with $13.3 million, while Adam Sandler’s comedy Grown Ups 2 rounded out the top five with $11.5 million.
