    Bollywood ‘queen’ Kangana Ranaut has done it again. Close on the heels of winning her third National Award, the actress has now bagged the ‘CNN-News18 Indian of the Year, 2015 – Special Achievement’ award.

    Kangana was felicitated with the prestigious honour at a ceremony held in Delhi at Hotel Taj Palace on 9 June 2016. The highly-recognized award celebrates Kangana’s contribution not only to the industry as an actor, but also as a face that has helped build Brand India internationally.

    MUMBAI: After successful conceptualization and running of various channels like 9XM, Music Fafafati, Hummra M, CEO of Dicky Speak Pvt Ltd Vikas Varma along with few more promoters is all geared up to launch a new Hindi FTA movie channel called BFlix Movies. The channel possesses a mixed bag of old and new movies.

    It will cater to the ever changing persona of Bollywood. Varma resonates that movies channels, movie halls or multiplexes do not create or produce their own movies but create an environment in which movies are the most fun and entertaining to watch. Breaking free from this notion, the channel will evolve with the constantly changing demands of the viewers and will have structural flexibility in environment to surprise and delight them.

    “Bflix Movies is the ‘gen-next’ movies channel. The entire experience of the channel is very musical and in harmony with the movies we play. If movies are the tea that our viewers drink in the afternoon, then Bflix Movies is a dash of zingy lemon in the tea. In the nights we are the rum in your coke and in the mornings we are the lover you awake with. To sum it all, Bflix Movies is the twinkle in your eye even on your most boring day”, says Varma.

    The channel is available on all major cable and DTH networks in India and has already started airing on Insat4a.

    A small yet passionate team has been created to not get lost in the war of bureaucracy and designations. It will focus on the underlying ideology, clarity of intent and simplicity of execution on TV.

    The channel has another supporter, Kamaal R Khan as part of its team and will constantly play @kamaalrkhan tweets on the channel. He is already creating a lot of buzz about this on his social media accounts.

    “I personally am a big fan of his tweets and among his 1.1 million (11 lakh)  fans on Twitter”, voices Varma.

    Adding further, “It’s great for the ego of the people involved with the channel. It does very little to garner viewership and certainly does nothing to retain it. We launched 9XM with zero marketing and in two weeks we beat MTV, which was #1 at that time. The same was applied to Hummra M and Music F Fatafati. If the channel is good, it will garner viewers irrespective of its B2C marketing spends”.

    “Brand mirroring platforms on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. will be created for the Bflix Movies community and space for our viewers to interact. A ‘mood-map’ will also be created airing tailor made content as per the audience’ demand,” he informed.

    MUMBAI: Culture Machine after launching campaigns like The Printing Machine, a poetical satire by Kalki; Radhika Apte voicing against body shaming through You’re beautiful, or ‘The Indian’ series describing the Indian Sikhs, Muslims and Dalits voicing various social issues. This time the company has launched a social experiment titled “The Roadside Ustaad” featuring Bollywood playback singer Sonu Nigam as disguised old man.

    The video has been released on Culture Machine’s digital channel Being Indian. The video is an experiment with Sonu Nigam as an old man singing by the road in the busy lanes of Juhu, Mumbai. The pedestrians take notice of an old man singing in melodious voice with many pausing to enjoy a few moments but are forced to continue to hurry and move on with their lives.  ‘The Roadside Ustaad’ captures mixed reactions of Mumbaikaars ranging from individuals stopping by and enjoying the old man’s singing to those who nonchalantly walk away. Inspired by the magical impact that music has on individuals, Sonu Nigam and Culture Machine sought to capture joyful moments that music has on our mechanical and monotonous lives.

    Cultural machine says that this video is its attempt to make people realize that they can spare some time from busy lives and appreciate beautiful things inside. Expressing the same Cultural Machine creative director Karl Katgara said, “The whole idea behind this experiment was to inspire people to take a moment out of their busy lives and appreciate the beauty of music. To appreciate the many tiny miracles we pass every day and ignore, while we stare at our phones or lost in thought. To do this, who better than Sonu Nigam. He is one of the most sought after singers in the country, and the most recognizable voice. What was interesting to see at the time was, he created the same magic singing, just disguised as an old man, and people could not recognize him at all.

    Sonu Nigam said, “I went without any expectations, totally bereft of any awkwardness for the way I was looking and what I was about to subject myself to. For the first time, I was not me, the make-up was so good and authentic,people standing so close to me, couldn’t recognise me. I was carrying the harmonium that my parents bought when I was born. It was all so humbling. And from such an unfamiliar zone, I managed to procure something. Gratitude, Grace and appreciation for what we have.”

The channel will air various movies like Mamma Mia, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Big Wedding, Maid in Manhattan and Life As We Knowunder their official property titled Mum’s The World. It has also created an integrated contest with the same title through which one lucky winner will get an all-expense paid trip to Phuket with the winner’s  mom. The movies will air the entire day from 9 am to 9 pm on 8 May.

    It has also tied up with the recently released comedy-drama Mother’s Day starring Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson. The film depicts interlinked stories about three women in different settings and on different emotional missions. Roberts plays the role of a glamorous TV host, while Hudson is a woman who wants a stronger and more cordial relationship with her mother, and Aniston is a divorcee who is looking for love

    Animal Planet plans to bring its viewers a day full of amazing stories which will put spotlight on some of the outstanding animal mothers going the extra mile for their young. The mother’s day special will air on 8 May 2016 from 12 pm to 8 pm.On one hand the viewers can see Amarobia Spider mom sacrificing her life to be often eaten by her newborns while on the other hand Koalas will be seen feeding on poisonous eucalyptus leaves and building up tolerance in her babies by feeding them her own faeces.  Orangutan moms will nurse their offspring until they reach the age or 6 or 7.

    Some of the episodes for the day includes Heart of a Lioness portraying some places on earth where legends come alive.  An inversion of nature baffles the scientific world when a young lioness in Samburu Reserve, Kenya, sets aside her predatory instincts to adopt a baby oryx antelope and mother it with infinite tenderness for 16 days.  Foregoing her most basic needs she proved both a compassionate and wise protector.

    AXN will celebrate this day by screening popular American series Extant, a futuristic thriller centred around a female astronaut Molly Woods, essayed by Academy Award Winning actress Halle Berry,mother to an alien and a humanic, fight against her detractors to protect her children.The series will air from 12 pm to 6 pm.

    Disney India’s Captain America rings in 70 brands; raises Rs 150 crore

    MUMBAI: You know you are doing something right when you beat your own record and that is exactly what Disney India has done for their chef d’oeuvre — Captain America: Civil War, which is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The studio has gone ahead and signed media and merchandising deals with 70 brands, one upping their previous record of 50 brand associations each for Star Wars: The Force Awakens  and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

    “For the India market, we have a record number of 70 brands collaborating for Captain America: Civil War, which is a testament to its growing popularity. This is by far the highest for any Hollywood or Bollywood movie,” asserted Disney India, consumer products VP and head Abhishek Maheshwari.

    Disney India’s consumer product business has associated with a wide variety of brands in categories such as apparel, toys, FMCG, ecommerce, accessories, finance and more. To make the most of these partnerships, the brands too are leaving no stone unturned in promoting the film.

    When asked why brand association with a movie like Captain America is a good opportunity for an eCommerce brand, Amazon.in category management VP Samir Kumar replied, “In the past, we have  experienced the excitement from  fans who flock to the Amazon.in marketplace and love to shop for their favourite movie merchandise as the movie readies for release. Disney movies has ardent fans, so we look forwards to making their shopping experience delightful this time too.”

    As per a source close to the development, around Rs 150 crore have been raised through these associations, with Rs 35-40 crore coming from  ATL and BTL promotions (across five brands, Lifebuoy, Axe, Nearbuy, Dell and Audi) and Rs 100-110 crore through retail sales value.

    Disney India claims that it is the growing popularity of superhero based Hollywood blockbusters in the country that is attracting brands to pump in huge amount of ATL & BTL spends. The Jungle Book’shumongous success in the Indian box office has also solidified the brands’ faith in the popularity of international movies.

    “Over the years, the Hindi audience for Marvel’s movies has grown rapidly and we are doing a lot of promotions for Marvel fans also,” shared Disney India studios VP Amrita Pandey, adding that to make the movie more relatable to the Indian audience Varun  Dhawan was the voice actor for Captain America in the movie.

    “We build our franchises through our content across Films, Television and Digital. We have a long term vision for our franchises and in the case of Marvel, we have our movie slate chalked out for the next five years, which our partners value,” Maheshwari added.

    Some of these innovative associations include, Jack & Jones’ apparel range inspired by ‘Civil War’, ICICI Bank’s co-branded Civil War Expression debit cards, Funskool’s latest range of action figures, playsets, board games and role-play items of Marvel Super Heroes.

    Captain America: Civil War is the most anticipated movie of this year, packed with Super Heroes, making it a visual delight for fans. With the immensely strong affinity for Marvel Super Heroes, toy lines across key categories such as collectibles, role-play and construction will be the main drivers to get the excitement going. We have launched a wide range of Hasbro products including figurines and role-play sets, Lego construction sets, as well as board games for kids and young adults”, Funskool sales and marketing SVP R Jeswant quipped on their association with Disney India.

    Apart from this Lifebuoy has released 46 lakhs packs inspired by Captain America: Civil War & Iron Man movie art. Axe too is promoting their variants of Champion and Maverick with Captain America and Iron Man respectively, while Lanmart is carrying out a massive in store promotion for brand Captain America.

    While Marvel fans eagerly await 6 May for the movie’s India release to enjoy their favourite superheroes or to  flock the theaters for the stellar starcast — Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner,  and many more — brands ride high on the ‘Civil War’ wave.
