MUMBAI: Paytm has announced that its movies segment is aiming to contribute 50% to the opening weekend online collection of leading Hollywood and Bollywood Movies by end 2017. The company will achieve this with extensive marketing partnerships to further increase its adoption and reach.

Paytm Movies has received an exceptional response with more than Rs. 400 crore in GMV within a year of launch. Contributing more than 20% to the opening weekend collection of all major Hollywood and Bollywood movies, the platform is garnering major traction from Tier II and Tier III cities by upgrading traditional offline ticket booking systems in local theaters to online ticketing. We will continue working with all move theatre chains to increase online ticket sales by promoting them aggressively amongst our vast user base,” says Paytm vice president Renu Satti.

Paytm’s online movie ticketing service is available at more than 3500 screens across 550 cities and the platform’s pan-India distribution reach has led to it currently accounting for around 20% share of opening weekend box-office collection for most movies.

  • #JigarMatlabLiver conceptualised by Chimp&z Inc

MUMBAI: If asked, ‘What’s the meaning of ‘Jigar’?’ with confidence, you would say ‘Heart’. But, despite your confidence, Hamdard has taken the onus to clear the air around this popular misconception. Hamdard Laboratories (India), a 100-year-old brand in the health and wellness segment, has launched a social media campaign for their brand Jigreen, its natural Liver health tonic, titled ‘#JigarMatlabLiver’ focusing on clearing the misconception regarding Jigar in India.

Courtesy Bollywood, ‘Jigar’ is widely believed to be a synonym of the heart in every sense. Targeting the very source of this misconception, Jigreen developed a post series that brought a tongue-in-cheek twist to some popular Bollywood songs and dialogues, for example, “My Jigar da tukda” is now “My Liver da tukda” and “Dard-e-dil, dard-e-jigar” is “Dard-e-dil, dard-e-liver” along with inviting audiences to share their responses on more such lyrics and dialogues.

The campaign won overwhelming response from netizens who participated in large numbers and were surprised over this revelation and the twist it brought to the meaning of their favorite songs. This campaign followed the new Jigreen TVC; a first ever by any company operating in the Liver Health category in India. The very aim of ‘#JigarMatlabLiver’ campaign was to clarify the very meaning of Liver, create awareness about Liver Health and relate it with the brand name ‘Jigreen’. The interest, thus generated paved the way for Jigreen to further communicate the importance of liver in our lives. Jigreen’s current social media campaign titled ‘#LifeKaJigreeDost’ is efficiently leveraging this curiosity generated around the liver.

Hamdard chief sales & marketing officer Mansoor Ali said, “We are introducing the significance our liver has by demystifying the liver and its functions in a soft, easy manner to appeal to people’s minds in the longer run. We want people to change their attitude about taking their liver for granted..”

The campaign conceptualized by Chimp&z Inc, Gurgaon, plays on a deep consumer misconception regarding the meaning of Jigar, the idea behind this campaign.

Chimp&z Inc co-founder Lavinn Rajpal adds, “When you get an unusual brief, it creates a level of excitement and gives the boost to perform well. And Jigreen is a perfect example of that where we had to break some stereotypical thoughts and give liver a whole new ideation.”

CoD: CEO Kundra no longer offers ‘Best Deal’

MUMBAI: Prospects of Best Deal TV seemed to be bleak as Raj Kundra, the husband of Shilpa Shetty, who was the CEO of the home shopping channel, has put in his papers.

Best Deal TV was launched in March 2015 by Kundra and Shetty who jointly owned a majority stake while Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar owned eight per cent as part of his endorsement deal with the channel, whereas UY Industries MD Deepak Kothari invested a significant amount.

Best Deal, in December 2016, had suspended operations after experiencing a sharp falls in business after demonetisation, which directly affected cash-on-delivery (CoD) — the most preferred way of payment in India.  Soon after, on 15 December 2016 itself, Kundra reportedly sent his resignation to the company.

Bleeding Pak theatres may become ‘Raees’ again

MUMBAI: Four months after Pakistan stopped screening Hindi films in its cinemas responding to Bollywood’s unofficial ban on Pakistani artistes following the Uri attack, Pakistan is again attempting to allow screening as theatre-owners are bleeding financially.

PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) had then banned Indian TV channels and entertainment programmes and cinema hall owners decided not to screen Bollywood films, the Times of India reported.

Pakistan’s prime minister Nawaz Sharif has constituted a panel to consider a request by distributors and theatre-owners to resume the import of Bollywood films. Distributors are hoping to get the permission before SRK’s ‘Raees’ releases on 25 January.

The Sharif committee is headed by minister of state for information Maryum Aurangzeb and includes the secretary of commerce, advisor to the PM on national history and literary heritage and a representative of ISI.

Films from India are in the list of items banned in Pakistan. But, the commerce ministry, under the import policy order, had issued NOCs (no-objection certificates) at per information ministry request thus allowing the import of 2-3 Indian films each month.

Sources told the Hindu that business in cinema halls in Pakistan was down after the unofficial ban on Indian movies and revenues had fallen up to 75 per cent in some theatres. Around 50 per cent of workers in halls lost their jobs. Bollywood films are also widely available through pirated DVDs in Pakistan.

Atrium Cinema owner in Karachi Nadeem Mandviwalla had earlier said that 70 per cent of their business comes from Bollywood and Hollywood. He said that they could only survive a temporary suspension, and not a continued one.
