What The Fish makes its debut with cancelled shows due to no show by audience; an exercise in total loss of money and efforts.

Krrish 3 continues its strong run at the BO

MUMBAI: Ram Gopal Varma’s attempt at cashing in on the title of his earlier film – Satya – with Satya 2, fails badly. The film is a nonstarter. A poor fare sans face value, the film has been generally ignored by the moviegoer. The film barely managed to cross the one crore mark for its opening weekend.

Krrish 3 makes the most of its one time watch appeal and solo festival week release despite reports not being in its favour. The film’s collections peaked to a high of Rs 31 crore on Monday once the dull period of pre-Diwali and Diwali were over. The film has gone on to collect Rs 120 crore. Bullet Raja misses the mark at the BO

MUMBAI: Bullett Raja based on an outdated premise which a few decades back would have been classified as B-grade stunt movie, has not gone down well with the audience. While the film fared better with the single screen moviegoers, it was not accepted at the multiplexes. The film has collected Rs 19.7 crore for its opening weekend.

Gori Tere Pyar Mein too has proved to be a disaster that it was predicted to be. An outdated story told in a patchy style, the film falls flat with poor response from day one. • Superman’s opening flight might cross the $100 mn barrier at the BO

Superman’s opening flight might cross the $100 mn barrier at the BO

MUMBAI: Within a week from now, the box office is going to be struck by the Kryptonian capped superhero film, Man of steel. The Superman reboot, has the 300 director Zack Synder at the helm and stars Henry Cavill as Superman, along with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Jadin Gould, Rebecca Butler and Christopher Meloni in its leading cast.

According to sources, Warner Bros‘ Man of Steel hitting the theatres on June 14 in UK and US should be geared up for a strong $100 million debut at the US box office alone. Given the early buzz on the film has been strong with a healthy marketing campaign spend of over $150 million. Warner Bros has been going into an overdrive in promoting the movie, with 13 TV spots and 4 clips to date, and while the final trailer dropped yesterday, there is likely much more to come over the next seven days, added by a source.

It seems a lot of expectations are riding on the $225 million blockbuster especially with Warner Bros wanting a Justice League film within the next four years. After Christopher Nolan‘s Dark Knight‘s standalone stupendous success at the box office, Warner Bros is all set to re-launch the red capped DC superhero, Superman through Man of Steel, in their attempt to create a wider universe for other superheros as well.

Also with Iron Man 3‘s collections surpassing the $1.2 billion mark, sources expect that the Christopher Nolan produced Man of Steel has a long way to go to compete with the likes of Marvel‘s Mr. Stark.

Still the industry observers look strongly at the reboots imprint on the box office which premiers on June 10 in New York.

BO: Kai Po Che picks up pace over weekend

MUMBAI: Abhishek Kapoor’s directorial venture Kai Po Che, which opened low and with mixed reports, picked up well over the weekend to collect Rs 168 million for the opening three days. Hollywood films relegating Chinese films at BO

MUMBAI: Box office collection of Hollywood films in China continues to surge but local media say it‘s “embarrassing” that local films barely figure in the top 10.
Box office in the Country grew 35 per cent in the first half of year to 7.74 billion yuan ($1.22 billion), and nine of the top 10 titles were from outside China. Foreign films look likely to continue to reap the lion‘s share of Chinese BO thanks to the recently increased quota for imports of premium films.
The highest-grossing film so far this year, according to Chinese media reports, was the 3D release of Titanic that grossed $153 million; it‘s third on the list of all-time top earners behind Avatar and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
With grosses expected to reach $5 billion by 2015, China‘s B.O. total could equal US and Canada‘s $10 billion annually by 2020. Other Hollywood titles in the top 10 included Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, Battleship, The Avengers and Men in Black 3.
Though The Hunger Games missed the Chinese top 10, with nearly $25 million after four weeks locally, the film still shows the potential of non-studio films that are usually released outside summer.
Warner Bros.‘ Wrath of the Titans, that made $25.4 million in China, was the first film to benefit from the country‘s higher revenue-sharing ratio.
