BIBA launches Kuch Nahi collection for Mother’s Day

Mumbai: As Mother’s Day approaches, BIBA, India’s leading and homegrown fashion brand, today unveiled its digital campaign, titled “Kuch Nahi,” this campaign pays homage to the endless support and boundless affection of mothers, who often ask for nothing in return for their sacrifices. The campaign features renowned Indian TV actress, Shilpa Saklani.

Reflecting on the cherished memories of our mothers, the campaign reminds us of the countless times mothers intuitively knew what we needed, even before we asked for it. Whether it was a comforting hug, a listening ear, or a small gesture of kindness, mothers have always been there, selflessly giving without expecting anything in return.

To honour and celebrate mothers, BIBA’s “Kuch Nahi” collection, curated especially for mother’s day, is a testament to the simplicity and humility of maternal love. This collection embodies the essence of the phrase “kuch nahi” (nothing), encapsulating the essence of maternal affection and understanding. Time and again, when asked what they desire, mothers humbly respond with this phrase, underscoring their unwavering commitment to their families’ well-being above their own wants. BIBA has taken inspiration from this selfless sentiment, crafting a campaign that aims to deliver precisely what mothers express they need- “Kuch Nahi.”

The campaign’s highlight is a heartwarming short film that captures the everyday moments of a mother’s love and sacrifice. Set in a humble household, the film follows the story of a mother who effortlessly fulfils the needs of her family, always knowing exactly what they need, even without them having to share. The film beautifully then moves ahead also to depict the daughter bringing her mother a BIBA outfit for a family function she must attend to honouring the mother with a selfless act illustrates the depth of a mother’s understanding and compassion, leaving viewers with a heartfelt reminder to appreciate and cherish mothers in their lives.

BIBA Fashion managing director Siddharath Bindra shared his thoughts on the campaign, stating, “My mother has been my biggest inspiration over the years. She started her own business with no training at the age of 40. This Mothers Day we have a special film that is dedicated to all the Mothers for their unconditional love and a special Collection to offer which is a great gift for the Kuch nahi that they ask the children for. We are sure this will resonate with our audiences and look forward to a wonderful response.”

The “Kuch Nahi” collection will be available for purchase on BIBA’s official website and across select retail stores nationwide. Join BIBA in honouring mothers this Mother’s Day by embracing the spirit of “kuch nahi” and giving them the love and appreciation they truly deserve.

The film featuring Shilpa Saklani can be viewed on BIBA’s official website and social media platforms including Youtube, Facebook & Instagram. The ad film has been shot and created in partnership with leading creative agency Famous Innovations, bringing to life the sentiment of maternal selflessness.

  • Lifestyle retailers ride on festive cheer, but will it last?

Lifestyle retailers ride on festive cheer, but will it last?

NEW DELHI: Businesses across varied sectors are trying their best to beat the lockdown blues altogether after months of economic slowdown. Apparel and lifestyle retailers have some cause for cheer as the sector is showing signs of revival. The players are banking on the festive season to revive their sales further.

In August, lifestyle retailers reported almost 20 per cent growth, the best since outlets reopened in June after months of lockdown.

Retailers say that the business has started picking up over the past few weeks, and now with Diwali and the wedding season around the corner, it will help brands to perform better as compared to the lockdown period. However, companies believe that it will take around six months at least for the business to be back on the actual sales and revenue figures.

Consumer demand registered an uptick on the occasion of Navratri and Durga Puja but so far, the average ticket size is small.

Cantabil Retail India Ltd director Deepak Bansal said the brand is expecting around 40 per cent growth compared to the previous months. “We anticipate achieving 75 per cent of what we achieved vis-à-vis last year. With the new merchandise and festive offers, we are hopeful it will act as a pull factor for the customers and the season will prove to be good for the whole industry.”

He shared that to achieve the same growth figures as last year will take time, and not to expect the market to function at pre-pandemic levels before the next financial year.

TCNS Clothing Co Ltd head – marketing Aarti Ahuja agreed that there has been a revival of demand for festive products such as ethnic dresses, accessories, and attires. Consumer trends may not match the demand created by festivals in normal times but the growing sale of festive products is reviving the sector and displaying high inclination of buying festive products, she added.

Havas Media managing partner- North & West India Uday Mohan was of the view that the lockdown has resulted in pent-up demand. A lot of discretionary spends on travel/holidays/eating out have been cut down, so all these savings should be pumped towards retail spends especially with a plethora of deals available.

By contrast, Spykar CEO Sanjay Vakharia doesn’t perceive the current situation to be sustainable. “Festive period would be comparatively good, and that will lead us into the end of season months. Post that will be the real test and what turns the business will depend on a lot of variables.”

It was an unprecedented crisis for the retail sector when stores were shut for months during the lockdown, but the unlock phase has its share of challenges too. Now, customers are preferring to shop online instead of stepping out. The situation has driven companies to focus on the e-commerce model.

Bansal explained while offline sales have bounced back in the second quarter and look stable for Tier 2 and 3 cities, the customer in Tier 1 cities are still more comfortable ordering online. “We have been working towards strengthening our digital channel. We have forayed into the online market space recently, so this would be the first festive season we would be available online and are expecting good traction in the number of sales".

Ahuja also chimed that the brand is witnessing a rise in footfall as the year progresses, however, there is a growing trend of people leveraging both online and offline channels to purchase products.

In order to boost sales, retailers have been offering heavy discounts of up to 60 per cent. Future Group, for example, is running discount offers of up to 60 per cent on apparels through third-party online sales, including Amazon India, and also offline via its own retail chains such as Big Bazaar and fbb.

Considering most of the sales take place in this period, brands do extensive promotion and stress a lot on the marketing channels to leverage it. All the major brands have started launching campaigns, promoting products through the ATL and BTL modes.

Ahuja shared that over the years, TCNS clothing has been exploring all mediums of advertising including print, outdoor, TV as well as OTT to reach the TG. However, the outbreak of the pandemic has disrupted the way media and content is being consumed. “We are evolving with the TG and focusing on changing trends in the ‘new normal’ by creating personalised communication for both online and offline consumers while bridging the gap. All costs are being challenged from a zero-based budgeting principle.”

She further mentioned that various initiatives like hyper-local pop-up stores and virtual store visits are being experimented with. "The brand is exploring influencer marketing in a more structured and sustained manner. In terms of leveraging other media channels, it would depend largely on how the current situation evolves soon".

Cantabil this year is focusing more on personalized communications for both offline and online consumers channels through SMS campaigns, influencer engagements, or strategic digital campaigns, in order to maintain connect with the target audience

Biba MD Siddharth Bindra said that brands are planning innovative and creative ideas in terms of marketing to cope up with the current situation, with the maximum spend being on digital. “We, too, have changed our strategy and are adapting to the new. We are engaging with our existing consumers through our CRM tool and are very active online to keep our audiences abreast with what is new at Biba.”

“From an overall perspective, TV and digital are the two lead mediums. For retail, specifically print (newspapers) continues to be the focus option. IPL and news are the key genres on TV where the bulk of advertising has been focused on,” Mohan concluded.

  • “Our focus will be on digital, mobile & activation”: Dhunji Wadia

“Our focus will be on digital, mobile & activation”: Dhunji Wadia

Regarded as someone with strong business acumen, great entrepreneurial instincts and affinity towards clients’ businesses, Dhunji Wadia was anointed as Rediffusion-Y&R president in December last year.

With the Rediffusion-Y&R Group since 2010, Wadia had moved from JWT after spending 18 years there. Helming Everest Brand Solutions, he will now have greater responsibilities on his shoulders as he steps into the shoes of predecessors like Mahesh Chauhan, D Rajappa and Sam Ahmed.

The 40-year-old company surfaced from choppy waters by reinventing itself. The years 2014 saw the agency bag a number of new accounts, including Videocon, Virgin Atlantic and Biba Fashions in Delhi; PC Chandra Jewellers and Cordlife in Kolkata; and Revtron in Mumbai.

Indiantelevision.com’s Meghna Sharma spoke to the man, who has over 25 years of industry experience and has worked closely on brands like Parle, Tata, Unilever and Nike amongst others, to know his plans for the agency.

    Excerpts…

A new year, a new beginning. What will be on your agenda for 2015 for Rediffusion Y&R and Everest Brand Solutions?

2015 will be the year of focus. The number one priority is to focus on the creative work. Creative work is the whole agency. Of course, creative and strategic thinking are interlinked. But it’s the final output that moves the consumer. Once the creative work is in place, all good things will start to happen. It will positively impact the health of our brands, the agency’s fortunes, new business acquisitions and taking better care of our people.

Having understood the destination, we are working on the strategy to get there. In the process, people who are excited about the opportunities will make it big rather than people who are happy to sit back and wait for things to happen. The results will speak for themselves.

The year 2014 saw Rediffusion Y&R bagging new accounts like Videocon, Virgin Atlantic and Biba amongst others. The agency also regained its spot amongst the 10 advertising agencies in the country. What does this mean for the agency and how will this impact the future?

Winning new business is always great. It gives us a chance to showcase new work. Regaining our spot in the top 10 was a great moral booster. It fills us with the confidence and enthusiasm to go further.

What were the key lessons learnt from 2014 for you and the agency? And how will you implement those learnings in 2015?

Today, the size of the agency makes no difference at all. Neither does the scope or the geographic reach of the agency. The difference for any client is really in the people. Do they bring the experience, knowledge and insight to a client that will make a big impact in that organisation’s results and bottom line?

People are going to be the key going forward. We have a promising lot with immense potential and unleashing this potential will be a priority in 2015.

What are the key areas that the agency has been working on?

We have been focusing on our existing clients. Last year, more than half of our new business came from existing clients. It feels terrific when your existing clients trust you with their critical new brand launches. It’s a responsibility we cherish and specialise in.

We are living in a ‘Breaking News’ world where what’s trending today is forgotten tomorrow, so we need to be in the news for the right reasons. We not only need to do the work but we also will have to come out and tell the world ‘Hey look, here’s what we’ve been doing.’

According to you, what will be the highlights for the coming years?

We hope to make our work the single biggest highlight of 2015 and beyond.

What is your take on digital video format becoming a go to formula for advertising? Why are brands as well as advertising agencies opting for it?

This is going to become a key differentiator in content marketing – one will be able to cut through online clutter to attract customers, increase engagement and guide customers throughout their buying journey. This would be possible on any screen, anytime, anywhere.

Since brands are banking on creating films for digital platforms what do you enjoy the 30-second clip for TV or the long ones for digital?

As opposed to bombarding the viewer with repeat telecasts of TV commercials, this is an option where you create a long duration commercial and hope the viewer likes, comments and shares the video.

Going forward, clients won’t care about web hits because majority of the hits are now just bots. The main parameter for them will be sales. That’s what it was supposed to be in the first case.

What are the plans lined up for the digital side of your business?

We have done quite a few award-winning digital initiatives for our clients – SAB TV, Ranbaxy Volini and TATA Housing to name a few. Going forward there will be additional drive and focus on digital, mobile marketing and activation.

How has storytelling evolved over the years?

Thanks to the advancement in technology, storytelling is becoming increasingly compelling over the years. The recent Honda Type R commercial is a good example.

One mandate which you are really proud of and why?

Every mandate comes with its own unique challenges. And our credo is – To Resist The Usual. It would be impossible to isolate any one instance.

Everest has won the Brand Revitalisation Award for Brand Everest, at the ‘Global Excellence Awards’ by World Brand Congress and also adjudged the ‘Happiest Agency in India’. What initiatives do you take to make sure employees are happy? And how productive are happy people?

Happy people make a happy agency and in turn happy clients. It’s a happy circle. Most people join advertising in order to follow their passion. Majority of the work related grievances turn out to be minor issues when there is a common consensus. You need to have your heart in the right place.

The company said that the ideation process kick started with a brand audit. It was conducted with the objective of obtaining an insight which facilitated the development of the brand communication. It was observed that most clients have more than one broking relationship – combination of width and depth and for a combination of efficient margins, and for the spread and pick up of varying ideas for investments.
