    MUMBAI: D-Day starring Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Irrfan Khan has won much acclaim yet the opening day collections remained on the lower side with little improvement on Saturday and noteworthy improvement on Sunday. The opening weekend showed collections of Rs 10.2 crore.

    Ramaiya Vastavaiya which marks the debut of Tips‘ Ramesh Taurani‘s son Girish Taurani along with Shruti Haasan created much hype on its opening day but hasn‘t consolidated much after the opening weekend performance. The film went on to collect Rs 12.30 crore for its first weekend.

    Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has sustained well through its first week after taking a decent opening weekend. The bulk of the business coming from multiplexes from major cities, the film ended its first week with a total of Rs 52.5 crore. The film was recently granted tax exemption in the state of Maharashtra and is trying for further exemption in other states as well.

    Sixteen has done poorly. The film has managed to collect about Rs 1.2 crore in its first week.

    The Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha love story Lootera has managed to collect Rs 3.35 crore in its second week taking its two week total to Rs 25.75 crore.

    Policegiri starring Sanjay Dutt has collected Rs 3.1 crore in its second week to take its two week tally to Rs 16.30 crore.

    Raanjhanaa has added Rs 1.9 crore for its fourth week to take its four week total to Rs 58.45 crore.

    Excel Productions‘ youth flick Fukrey has added Rs 30 lakh for its seventh week thus taking its seven week total to Rs 34.5 crore.

    the film is getting, the Maharashtra government on Saturday granted tax exemption to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra‘s biopicBhaag Milkha Bhaag.

    Mehra was pleasantly surpriseds that the government acted so speedily and was very pleased and touched. The film would now be accessible to those middleclass families who cannot afford the ticket prices at multiplexes.

    Mehra is hopeful other states would follow suit and grant his Milkha biopic tax exemption in the coming week.

    MUMBAI: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which started slow on Friday, improved over next two days, peaking on Sunday. The film found patronage at multiplexes while the single screens reflected poor performance at most places. The film has managed to collect Rs 30.6 crore in its opening weekend. The film is expected to sustain at a few multiplexes in Mumbai, Delhi and NCR besides Punjab. The distributors of D-Day, due next Friday, skeptical about getting playtime are now sure of good screens.

    Sixteen has failed to get audience.

    The Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha love story Lootera which had a fair weekend due to support from Metro multiplexes, dropped drastically after the weekend and ended its first week run with Rs 22.4 crore. With its limited face value and heavy storyline, it failed to sustain. This is Vikramaditya Motwane‘s second directorial venture, following the critically acclaimed Udaan (2010).

    Policegiri, which stars Sanjay Dutt, has failed badly; its typical south content, Dutt and crude treatment failed to jell. The film has collected Rs 13.25 crore in its first week. Dutt‘s next release this year would be the Zanjeer remake where he would be reprising the memorable role of Sher Khan previously essayed by the late legend Pran in the 1973 original.

    The Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer Ghanchakkar has added Rs 1.5 crore in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 28.8 crore. With a poor script and execution, the film has not added much.

    Raanjhanaa, which marked the debut of the south superstar Dhanush of Kolavari Di fame, and met with mixed response due to its second half, has sustained well in its third week by collecting Rs 7.25 crore and taking its three week tally to Rs 56.55 crore.

    Excel Productions‘ youth flick Fukrey survives its fourth week with figures of Rs 1.5 crore and taking its four week total to Rs 34.2 crore.

    Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has added Rs 50 lakh for its sixth week to take its six week tally to Rs 182.55 crore. Ayan Mukherjee‘s second directorial venture has certainly gone down well with the audiences across the globe; it has certainly set the benchmark for the highest grosser for this year.

    MUMBAI: Viacom 18 Media and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, in association with UFO Moviez have announced exclusive preview screenings of the eagerly awaited biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in all UFO digital Defence theatres across India, a day ahead of the film‘s nationwide theatrical release.

    Starring Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor, and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a film about the revered athlete Milkha Singh‘s perseverance as a sportsperson and also as a courageous human spirit.

    While the theatrical release of the film is scheduled for 12 July, the exclusive premiere for Indian Defence Personnel and their families will be held at 8.00 pm on 11 July, in UFO‘s digital Defence theatres across India.

    MUMBAI: Sony Music in an effort to give its fans more has released the Making of the Legend – a film showcasing the journey of Farhan Akhtar to achieve an athletic body similar to what Milkha Singh had during his championship days.

    Says FarhanAkhtar, “Six months of training, four-five hours over two sessions, six days a week got me to be like this.”

    Composed by the musical trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy with Prasoon Joshi‘s lyrics, Sony Music released the music of the film in May 2013 and received instant success with each song. Zinda has become a youth anthem; MeraYaar exudes a romantic feel while the title track Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is motivation for one and all.

    This is the brands‘ second project with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, after Rang De Basanti, which adds another feather to Sony Music‘s repertoire. Co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is based on the biography of India‘s most prominent athlete, Milkha Singh which is played by the multi-faceted actor Farhan Akhtar in a pivotal role.

    MUMBAI: Pakistani model, singer and actress Meesha Shafi, who made her movie debut in Mira Nair‘s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, will now be seen in her first Bollywood venture.

    The actress is playing a character named Perizaad, best friend to Farhan Akhtar‘s Milkha Singh in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra‘s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

    Excited about her upcoming movie, Meesha says, “Our cultural heritage and stories are so deeply rooted that it is only natural to relate to the cinema being made here. Art is definitely a universal language and just as Bollywood has a huge audience in Pakistan, Pakistani music has a vast listenership in India.”

    Further, she adds, “Both countries are doing an immense service by bridging gaps and reaching out to the people. In fact I would say that Bollywood and Pakistan have an age-old relationship.”

    Bhaag Milkha Bhaag produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and ROMP Pictures releases on 12 July.

    MUMBAI: Sony music has teamed up with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Viacom18 for the music rights of the biopic – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

    After ‘Rang De Basanti‘s musical success, this is the second project with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra that adds another feather to Sony music‘s list. Co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is based on the life of athlete, Milkha Singh. The title character is which is played by actor Farhan Akhtar.

    The music is composed by the musical trio Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi.

    Sony Music Entertainment president India and middle east Shridhar Subramaniam said, "Our journey with Rakeysh began in the year 2005 with Rang De Basanti wherein we worked very closely with his team and created a huge success. Today while we work with him on Bhaag Milkha Bhaag we are all geared up to put in the same passion and energy. We are extremely confident of the subject and the music as it‘s an integral part of the film."

    He further adds, "Prasoon Joshi‘s lyrics in Rang De Basanti elevated the musical experience and we are sure it will be the same this time too while Shankar Ehsaan and Loy always bring a fresh new angle to the music.     Mehra adds, "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has been the most challenging experience. I have felt growth within myself as a film maker.     The music will roll out in May and the movie is slated for release in theatres on 12 July.

    Milkha Singh biopic to be filmed in Melbourne

    MUMBAI: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Run Milkha Run), the latest film by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, will shoot key scenes in Melbourne, according to the Premier of Victoria and minister for the Arts Ted Baillieu.

    The film will tell the story of the legendary Indian runner Milkha Singh, known as the ‘Flying Sikh‘, who won 77 of the international races out of the 80 that he entered in. Singh first represented India at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics that introduced him to the world stage and launched his international running career.

    “India is one of the busiest film production destinations in the world, and its burgeoning film industry offers vast opportunities for Victorian co-production projects, building on our strengths in the creative arts,” Baillieu observed. “Victoria is gaining recognition as a leading film production destination with world-class studio facilities at our disposal, such as the Docklands Film and Television Studios.”

    Baillieu said that the length of the shoot in Melbourne was anticipated to be between two and three weeks, which will generate more than $1 million in local economic activity.

    Produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Productions (ROMP) and Viacom18 India, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag will be directed by Mehra. It features Farhaan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor. Tourism Victoria will leverage the release of the movie through a marketing campaign in India featuring the key locations from the film.

    Other Indian films shot in Melbourne were Salaam Namaste and Chak de! India.
