  • Madras Café to go the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag way

Madras Cafe is sighting a tax free status for itself, after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Sources reveal that the movie opened a very important chapter in the history of India. While it was promoted as a film that was based in Sri Lanka, but at the end it was all about Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.

The source further goes on to clarify that it is against violence and terrorism of any kind. Since it involves more than just subtle messaging around, the film deserves to go tax free.

The lead actor of the film John Abraham and director Shoojit Sircar, who have collaborated on the film wanted to see how the film will be received, before creating a case for considering tax exemption.

A fellow filmmaker who does not wish to be named wishes that the film should be seen by maximum number of people and if John is contemplating a tax free status, he is very much right in his thought.

Last heard, a case study was being readied for submission to various authorities in different states. To begin with, Maharashtra and Delhi are under consideration and other cities are expected to follow soon.

Madras Caf fails to rake in the moolah, collects Rs 18 crore

Madras Cafe, starring John Abraham directed by Shoojit Sircar of Vicky Donor fame, opened low on Friday but managed to do better on Saturday and Sunday, especially at select multiplexes in Metro cities. However, public response failed to match that of the critics thus the slide is inevitable on days to follow. The film has collected Rs 18 crore for the opening weekend.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara, a story about underworld rivalry borne out of love for same girl, fails on all counts from casting to scripting. The film, which opened on 15 August holiday and took Rs 34.6 crore for the four day weekend, could add only little over Rs 14 crore for the other four days to close its first week with Rs 48.8 crore, the best figures coming from Bombay Circuit. The film is a sequel to Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010) but has failed to cash in on the success of the first installment.

Chennai Express starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone sustains well with the advantage of a weak opposition in its second week. The film collects Rs 36.7 crore in its second week to take its two week tally to Rs 178.7 crore.

MUMBAI: Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara starring Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha could reap only limited benefit of its release on 15th August holiday as the screens available to it were limited. Thereafter, as the reports were unfavourable, the film could not grow over the weekend. The film ended its four-day weekend with Rs 34.6 crore.

Chennai Express starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone has become the biggest weekend grosser as well as setting a fantastic record for the biggest first week collections. With paid previews included the film has set a new benchmark of Rs 142 crore for week one. With the week’s new release not enjoying favourable reports, the film will stand to gain in its second week run.

B A Pass has been able to sustain through its second week. The film collected Rs 1.25 crore in second week to take its two week total to Rs 6.6 crore.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya has added a symbolic Rs 12 lakh in its fourth week taking its four week total to Rs 25.97 crore.

D-Day has finally remained much below its merits, managed a meagre Rs 10 lakh in its fourth week taking its four week total to Rs 19.6 crore.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag the biopic on the great Indian athlete Milkha Singh also called “the flying sikh” starring Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor has collected Rs 2.5 crore in its fifth week to take its five week tally to Rs 105.25 crore.

Rabba Main Kya Karoon starring Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Akash Chopra and Riya Sen struggled to sustain through the weekend.

Chor Chor Super Chor starring Beepak Dobriyal, a reasonable entertainer, failed to draw the audience.

Bajatey Raho failed to cash in on its moderate face value and poor oppositions. The film managed to collect 6.5 crore for its first week.

Issaq could not find many takers outside of UP; the film managed a meagre 3.6 crore in its first week.

Nashaa, having opened poor, dropped further during the week to end its first week run with 3.5 crore.

  • Bhaag Milkha Bhaag holds its own with no major competition

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag holds its own with no major competition

MUMBAI: There were seven Hindi films slated for release last Friday out of which four, Bajatey Raho, Issaq, Nasha and Luv U Soniyo made it to the theatres but have received poor responses.

Bajatey Raho, a film with better known faces, was expected to do well. But, the comedy film failed to provide entertainment. The film opened to a weak response and ended its first weekend with figures of Rs 4.25 crore.

Issaq, a Shakespearean love tragedy from UP, did not work either. Except presenting a talented actor to the industry in Amyra Dastur, the film proved utterly forgettable. The film collected Rs 3.1 crore for its opening weekend.

Nasha starring Poonam Pandey, despite nudity and titillation, remained behind other releases in weekend figures. The film collected Rs 2.5 crore over its first weekend.

Luv U Soniyo had poor patronage, resulting in ‘No audience No show’, at most places.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya has not worked for the debutant Girish Kumar. The film was too clichéd very similar to medley of old films which had worked commercially. The film collected Rs 20.3 crore at the end of its first week.

D-Day, despite all the praises and positive word of mouth reports, has not been able to convert all that into cash. The film opened to indifferent response and continued to remain so all its first week to close the week with Rs 14.5 crore.

Ship Of Theseus managed to collect about Rs 50 lakh along with much acclaim during its first week.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is holding well and has had a lucrative second week even as other new releases could not find favour with the public. The film has collected Rs 25.65 crore for its week two taking its two week total to Rs 78.15 crore.
