NEW DELHI: The latest in the films on James Bond 007, Spectre, is slated for release in India on 20 November in four languages namely English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the film stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, David Bautista and Andrew Scott.

Spectre follows the release of Skyfall, the biggest Bond film of all time, which took in $1.1 billion worldwide.

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as Spectre.

Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Harris) and Q (Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of Spectre. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.

Presented by Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film has been produced by EON Productions Limited.

  • Sam Mendes turns down offer to helm next Bond film

Sam Mendes turns down offer to helm next Bond film

MUMBAI: Sam Mendes, who directed the last Bond film Skyfall, has announced that he won‘t be directing the 24th James Bond film citing time-consuming theatre commitments.

“It has been a very difficult decision not accepting Michael and Barbar‘s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie,” Mendes said. “Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and king Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond,” he added.

Skyfall has crossed the $ 1.1 billion mark to become the highest-grossing film ever at the British box office.

Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes will all reprise their roles in the forthcoming action flick that is to go on the floors early next year.

  • Ben Whishaw is fourth to reprise character Q in latest Bond film

MUMBAI: Producers of the 23rd James Bond adventure Skyfall Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have confirmed that the character of Q will be making a welcome return to the Bond franchise. The role will be played by Ben Whishaw.
Said the producers, “It‘s a real thrill to confirm the return of Q in Skyfall played by the enormously talented Ben Whishaw. We are delighted to have this beloved character back in the series.”
With his inclusion, Whishaw becomes the fourth actor to play Bond‘s quartermaster affectionately known as Q. The role has been earlier reprised by Peter Burton as Major Boothroyd in Dr. No, followed by Desmond Llewelyn (in 17 Bond films between 1963-1999), and John Cleese (who appeared as Q‘s assistant R in The World is Not Enough. He was later promoted to Q in Die Another Day).
In Skyfall, Bond‘s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
Whishaw will be seen later this year in Cloud Atlas alongside an all-star cast including Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess and Halle Berry, and in the BBC‘s Richard II. He will also be seen in the second series of The Hour for BBC in which he stars opposite Dominic West and Romola Garai.

MUMBAI: Now that the casting of the James Bond film Skyfall is nearing finalization, Ben Whishaw has been cast to play gadget maestro Q in the film. Whishaw‘s role would be that of the MI6 boffin who traditionally dishes out the gadgetry to 007 for his missions.

The actor joins the cast led by Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Albert Finney among others, is reported to have been assigned the role for the Sam Mendes directed actioner.

It is very heartening to note that Whishaw will be the first Q in the franchise‘s history to be younger than 007. While he is 31, Craig is 43.

Q is a James Bond staple for older 007 fans as he hasn‘t appeared in a Bond adventure since 2002‘s Die Another Day when John Cleese essayed the role.

For the previous 36 years, the gadget whizz and inventor had been played by Desmond Llewelyn.

Skyfall is scheduled to release in the UK and Ireland in October 2012 and later in November the same year in November.
