    BCCI appoints Anil Kumble as head coach

    MUMBAI: The BCCI announces appointment of Anil Kumble as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. He has been appointed for the period of one year.

    Given to his immense knowledge and experience, the BCCI is confident that Kumble will take Indian cricket forward and contribute to its growth and success. The Board is confident that Kumble will meet the consistent high standards of professionalism set by the Indian team and fulfills the expectations of the followers of Indian Cricket.

    India is set to host 13 Test matches, 8 ODIs & 3 T20Is in a mega home season (2016-17) and Kumble will play a major role in the collective objective of the Indian team to attain the top ranking in all three formats of the game.

    Kumble’s first assignment will be the upcoming away series in the West Indies, where India will play four Test matches.

    As part of the process for selecting the Head Coach, the Board received 57 applications, which were evaluated by the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly with Sanjay Jagdale, the Chief Co-Coordinator. The Committee conducted interviews with select shortlisted applicants and submitted a report/recommendation to the Honorary Secretary Ajay Shirke.

    The Board recognizes the contribution of Team Director Ravi Shastri under whom India marched to the semi-finals in the ICC World Cup held in Australia and the ICC World T20 India 2016. With him as Team Director, India won the Test series in Sri Lanka after a gap of 22 years and also outplayed South Africa 3-0 in a four-Test home series before clinching the Asia Cup.

    Neutral venues discussed to make Domestic cricket competitive

    In a bid to make domestic cricket more competitive and rule out the issues related to preparing specific wickets for home teams, as well as to expose players to play in different conditions, the BCCI Technical
    Committee recommended neutral venues for the Ranji Trophy matches This is a step recommended to make domestic Ranji Trophy cricket more competitive.

    The committee also discussed the format for Duleep Trophy for the season 2016-17. It was recommended that selectors would pick four teams to participate in a round-robin format tournament. The entire tournament will be a day/night affair.

    The Committee also cleared India ‘A’ tour of Australia in August for two four-day matches and a tri-series.

    The recommendations will now be tabled at the BCCI Working Committee.

    In the NCA Committee meeting, the members were updated about the assessment of all the ongoing zonal camps in various age groups and the umpires’ refresher course.

    Members were also briefed about the physiotherapist and trainers course to be conducted by the NCA next month. Physios and trainers of all the state associations will be attending this course.

    BCCI appoints media honcho Rahul Johri as CEO

    MUMBAI: Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Wednesday (April 20) that Rahul Johri has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Johri was last serving as Discovery Networks Asia Pacific’s Executive Vice-President and General Manager for South Asia and had stepped down from the position earlier this year. 

    Rahul brings with him immense experience and knowledge on board and will be responsible for the smooth functioning of operations, stakeholder management and building robust strategies for further promoting the sport.

    Speaking to Indiantelevision.com Johri said, “I will occupy office from June 1, 2016 onwards, and will be reporting to the Honorary Secretary BCCI Anurag Thakur.” 

    Commenting on the appointment, BCCI President, Shashank Manohar, said, “We are pleased to have Rahul with us and are sure his vast experience and knowledge will benefit the board. His vision, guidance and support will contribute towards the successful working of the BCCI.”

    BCCI Secretary, Anurag Thakur said, “We welcome Rahul aboard and wish him luck for his new role at BCCI. In the past one year, BCCI has undertaken various initiatives aimed towards transforming the working of BCCI in order to make the functioning more robust. This endeavor is another initiative of the board aimed in the same direction and will mark as one more milestone towards strengthening the professional working of the BCCI.”
