The logo has been inspired by painted rickshaws which pack the streets of cities in Bangladesh cities. The event logo uses the colours of the Bangladesh flag with splashes of blue which represent Bangladesh‘s iconic waterways as well as being the ICC‘s own colour.

The T is made up of cricket stumps and the 0 in the T20 represents the cricket ball complete with Bangladeshi green seam while the white in the design lends an energetic, friendly and youthful feel to the logo.

Bangla board clears Nimbus deal after cricket chief quits

MUMBAI: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Mohammad Ali Asghar has resigned to clear the way for the government to sign a record television deal with Singapore-headquartered Nimbus Sport.

As already reported on Indiantelevision.com, the deal, which runs from 1 November 2006 to 31 March 2012 and includes 16 international cricket events, was awarded to Nimbus after it made a whopping $ 56.88 million bid. Nimbus Sport will exclusively market media rights encompassing television, radio, broadband internet and mobile telephony. Nimbus will also produce the television world feed for all the events in the term.

The official announcement that the Bangladesh board and Nimbus had entered into a partnership for marketing of BCB media rights came a day after Asghar’s resignation.

Replacing Asghar, a lawmaker of the country’s outgoing ruling party, is senior government official Mohammad Abdul Aziz.

“I have resigned as the ministry was delaying signing a deal with Nimbus that won a tender for a cricket marketing deal,” Asghar had been quoted by news service Reuters as saying.

Nimbus will exclusively market media rights encompassing television, radio, broadband internet and mobile telephony. Nimbus Sport will also produce the television world feed for all the events in the term.

Nimbus’ telecast of Bangladesh cricket begins later this month with a five-match one-day series against Zimbabwe. After that, Bangladesh plays Bermuda and Canada in early 2007 (two ODIs each).

The full roster of international cricket events the rights encompass include three India tours, and tours by all major test-playing nations including England, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies and New Zealand. It also includes a number of domestic cricket events, an offical release states.

Nimbus bags Bangla cricket rights for $ 56 million

MUMBAI: About the only consistent aspect of bidding for cricket rights is that no one seems to have a fix on just how high the numbers will go. Test minnows Bangladesh has sold to Nimbus Sport, the marketing rights for international cricket matches held in that country till 2012 for a whopping $ 56.88 million.

To put some perspective on the matter, $11.75 million is what ESPN Star Sports paid the Bangladesh cricket Board (BCB) last time round when it acquired the rights for a period of five years. Those rights expired in April last year.

The BCB’s new tender invitation is for the period 1 November 2006 to 31 March 2012. Bangladesh is expected to play 21-23 Test matches and 59-61 internationals during this period.

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com earlier, ESPN India MD RC Venkateish had said that his network was certainly interested in renewing the rights.

Nimbus’ bid was over $ 23 million higher than next in line Zee Telefilms’ tender, newswire Press Trust of India quoted Bangladesh Cricket Board general secretary Mahbub Anam as saying on Friday.
“We will sign a contract with Nimbus within the next two weeks. All we need now is the government’s seal of approval,” Anam said.

Two key clauses in the tender document issued by the BCB were:

    * Production the responsibility of the bidder though there are allowable expenses against the winning bid (subject to the board agreeing) including production costs.

    * All revenues will be shared between BCCB and the successful bidder in a ratio of 80:20 in favour of BCCB.

Nimbus’ telecast of Bangladesh cricket begins later this month with a five-match one-day series against Zimbabwe. After that, Bangladesh plays Bermuda and Canada in early 2007 (two ODIs each).

Bangla board sets $ 50 million reserve price for cricket rights

MUMBAI: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which has issued a tender to sell marketing rights including those for television and the Internet for six years until 2012, has fixed a reserve price of $ 50 million for bids.

This is a massive mark-up from the $11.75 million ESPN Star Sports paid last time round when it acquired the rights for a period of five years. Those rights expired in April last year.

The BCB’s new tender invitation is for the period 1 November 2006 to 31 March 2012.

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com earlier, ESPN India MD RC Venkateish had said that his network was certainly interested in renewing the rights.

Among the rather tough clauses in the tender document the BCB has issued are:

    * Only firms experienced in using similar rights and having an annual turnover of $15 million will be eligible to participate in the tender.

    * All revenues will be shared between BCCB and the successful bidder in a ratio of 80:20 in favour of BCCB.

$ 2 million deposit to be submitted before bids opened.

    * Production the responsibility of the bidder though there are allowable expenses against the winning bid (subject to the board agreeing) including production costs.

    * As the incumbent broadcaster, ESS will have the right to match any bid from a rival broadcaster if its bid is lower.

Bangladesh is expected to play around 40 tests and over 100 one-day internationals during this period.

The big question among more than one industry watcher is this – will any broadcaster bid even the floor price of $ 50 million let alone cross it?

Bangladesh Cricket Board looking to hammer out a TV deal

MUMBAI: With only two months remaining before the first home series under the new Future Tour Programme (FTP) gets underway, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to start the process in terms of signing a television deal.

In November, Bangladesh will host the new international calendar at home with a five-match one-day series against Zimbabwe. It is a situation that leaves BCB with very little time to settle the TV rights.

ESPN Star Sports (ESS) had the rights for five years which expired earlier this year. A committee was appointed by the BCB to conclude what was expected to be little more than the formalities of a new contract.

But a report in Daily Star had stated that the committee did not do much. As a result the BCB has been forced to form a new body to move forward.

BCB general secretary Mahbubul Anam has been quoted in reports explaining that the previous committee was not formalised. Therefore a new one was formed. The aim now is to conduct an open tender process.
