    Barc week 16: Star Sports 1 Hindi becomes most-watched channel

    Mumbai: TV audience measurement agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (Barc) India has released its currency data for Week 16  (16 to 22 April). As per the data for All India 2+ target group (TG), Star Sports 1 Hindi has overtaken Sun TV to become the most-watched channel in India with a weekly average minute audience (AMA) of 2474.31 (000).

    Sun TV trailed with 2291.11 (000) AMA, Star Maa and Star Plus recorded 2160.22 (000) AMA and 2052.17 (000) AMA, respectively. Dangal rose to the fifth position with 1713.94 (000) AMA. Star Vijay, Sony SAB, Colors, Star Pravah, and Zee Telugu followed.

    The average minute audience is defined as the number of individuals of a target audience who viewed a televised “event,” averaged across minutes.

    Star Sports 1 Hindi was also the most-watched channel in the Hindi-speaking market with 2425.97 (000) AMA followed by Star Plus at 1998.41 (000) AMA. Notably, Dangal beat Sony SAB to gain the third position with 1705.17 (000) AMA. Star Pravah took the fifth spot (TG: 2+).

    Star Pravah was the most-watched channel in the Maharashtra/Goa market with 1383.18 (000) AMA followed by Star Sports 1 Hindi, Zee Marathi, Sony SAB, and Colors Marathi (TG: 2+).

    Star Jalsha was the most-watched channel in the West Bengal market with 1140.83 (000) AMA followed by Zee Bangla, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Jalsha Movies, and Aakash Aath (TG:2+).  

    Sun TV was the most-watched channel in the South market with 2283.1 (000) AMA followed by Star Maa, Star Vijay, Zee Telugu, and Zee Kannada. Asianet was the most-watched channel in Kerala at 916.78 (000) AMA. Zee Kannada was the most-watched channel in Karnataka with 1289.01 (000) AMA. Star Maa was the most-watched channel in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana with 1995.15 (000) AMA. Sun TV was the most-watched channel in Tamil Nadu with 2056.69 (000) AMA (TG:2+).

    Sun TV was the most-watched channel in the megacities i.e., Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai at 435.78 (000) AMA followed by Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Plus, Star Vijay, and Colors (TG:2+).

    MUMBAI: According to week 16 of  Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), HSM (U+R) : NCCS AB : Males 22+ Individuals ratings, CNBC TV 18 continued to hold on to its number one position in the English Business News space. Despite a drop in ratings, Times Now also clung to the pole position in the English News genre.  Like the previous week, India TV and CNBC Awaaz topped their respective genres in week 16.

    English News

    Times Now dominated the English News genre in week 16, but with a significant drop in ratings with 284 Impressions (000s), in comparison to 442 Impressions (000s) of week 15. CNN News 18 followed Times Now with 176 Impressions (000s). India Today Television ranked third with 136 Impressions (000s). NDTV 24×7 grabbed fourth position with 115 Impressions (000s) and News 9 was on fifth spot with 77 Impressions (000s).

    English Business News

    CNBC TV 18 continued to dominate the English Business News space with 121 Impressions (000s), ET now secured second position with 85 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime was on third spot with 32 Impressions (000s) and Bloomberg TV was at fourth position with 9 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News

    Not only did India TV continue its hold on the top spot with 70714 Impressions (000s),  it saw a growth in ratings when compared to 66780 Impression from week 15.

    Aaj Tak grabbed the second position with 62962 Impressions (000s). India News stood at third position with 38697 Impressions (000s), followed by ABP News with 38496 Impressions (000s) at the fourth spot.

    News Nation was at the fifth place with 35791 Im Ipressions (000s).

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz scored first position with 638 Impressions (000s), followed by Zee Business with 472 Impressions (000s).

    MUMBAI: Colors toppled Star Plus to claim the leadership position in week 16 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) All India data. Free-to-air channels  Sony Pal, Zee Anmol, Star Utsav and Rishtey maintained their presence in top ten channels of Hindi GEC.

    Colors garnered the leadership position  with 670523 Impressions (000’s) and pushed down Star Plus to second slot with 628039 Impressions (000’s) while Zee TV stood at third position with  539218 Impressions’ (000s).

    Sony Pal climbed up  and secured fourth spot with  531196 Impressions’ (000s) followed by Zee Anmol  with 513643 Impressions’ (000s) stood at fifth position.

    Life OK bagged the sixth position with 452797 Impressions’ (000s) followed by Rishtey at number seven with 435574 Impressions (000s) and Star Utsav stood at number eight with 419544 Impressions (‘000s).

    With no change in the ranking orders, SPN’s Hindi GEC channels Sab TV and Sony Entertainment Television grabbed the ninth and tenth slot with 359090 Impressions (000s)and 278738 Impressions (000s) respectively.
