    BARC week 14: Sony Marathi enters top five Marathi channels list

    MUMBAI: In week 14 of BARC India ratings Sony Marathi entered the top five Marathi channel list at fifth position by replacing Colors Marathi. The channel garnered 61,709 weekly impressions (000s). In Gujarati market, TV9 Gujarati grabbed the leading position. Last week the channel was seen at second position and ABP Asmita was leading. The pecking order of Bhojpuri channels remained unchanged in week 14 of BARC India ratings.

    In the Bangla market, Zee Bangla, Jalsha Movies, Star Jalsha, Sony Aath and Zee Bangla Cinema were the top five channels in week 14 of BARC India ratings.

    BARC week 14: DD National leads in urban, rural and pay platform

    MUMBAI: In week 14 of BARC India ratings, Sony SAB is the only Hindi GEC which continues to hold its position. When most of the channels are slipping down in the urban and rural market, Sony SAB and Sony Entertainment Television are seeing holding their respective position on pay platforms. Compared to last week, Zee has slipped down to tenth position in the urban market while Colors has moved out of the top ten channels’ list in the rural market. Week 14 witnessed growth in DD Bharati's viewership. The channel jumped to third position in the urban market and fourth position on pay platform. Last week, DD National was leading in the urban market, and pay platform this week the channel is also leading in the rural market.

    DD National, Dangal, Big Magic, Sony SAB, DD Bharat, Sony Entertainment Television, Star Utsav, Star Plus, Zee TV and Zee Anmol were the top ten channels in the rural market.

    Pay

    In the urban market, the top ten channels were DD National, Sony SAB, DD Bharati, Sony Entertainment Television, Dangal, Colors, Star Plus, Star Utsav, Big Magic and Zee TV and in week 14 of BARC India ratings.

    Urban

    DD National, Dangal, Big Magic, Sony SAB,  DD Bharat, Sony Entertainment Television, Star Utsav,  Star Plus, Zee TV and Zee Anmol were the top ten channels in the rural market.

    Rural

    On the free platform Dangal, Big Magic, DD National, DD Bharati, Manoranjan Grand, DD Madhya Pradesh, DD Uttar Pradesh, DD Rajasthan and DD Arunprabha were the top nine channels in week 14 of BARC ratings.

    DD’s winning streak continues, leads urban 15+ markets in BARC week 14

    MUMBAI: DD National's winning streak is continuing week after week in lockdown.

    In week 14 of BARC India ratings, DD National's rating has moved up from 376 GRPs to 451 GRPs in the HSM urban 15+ market. The channel has managed to beat even the best Hindi GECs, riding on the back of iconic re-runs. Its viewership was more than double that of second position Sony Sab.

    Last week for the first time, the pubcaster's Hindi GEC DD National entered the top ten channels list in urban market as well as pay platform. 

    According to BARC – Nielsen report in week 13, Ramayan garnered 545.8 million impressions and with that DD National became the most-watched channel in week 3 of lockdown. The re-telecast of the show garnered the highest ever rating for a Hindi GEC show since 2015. The show was highest rated in the urban market and megacities. In week 13, Ramayan recorded 46,395 weekly impressions and entered the list of top five programmes in the hindi GEC category. 

    The channel has been witnessing viewership spikes ever since it launched Ramayan to entertain its viewers.

    DD National also started airing Subhash Sagar's Alif Laila. It looks like the pubcaster's channel will continue to bring back more shows to ensure that people will get to watch their favourite old shows during lockdown.

    Sony SAB was in the second position in the week 14 with 214 GRPs and Sony Entertainment Television was in the third position with 133 GRPs.

    Hindi GEC hits new all-time high with 4 bn impressions in week 14

    MUMBAI: In week 14 of TV viewership, the Hindi GEC genre has witnessed an all-time viewership high since 2015. According to the BARC-Nielsen -TV+ smartphone consumption data, the genre has grabbed four million impressions in the HSM urban market. 

    Ramayan is said to be the biggest driver of viewership growth in the urban HSM market in week 14. There have been 73 per cent episodic duplications and 83 per cent weekly duplication for Ramayan which was the highest among all Hindi GEC shows. 

    This week Ramayan grabbed 61,397 weekly impressions (000s) on DD National. The channel was leading on pay platform with 1,427,722 weekly impressions, and in the urban market it was leading with 1,099,834 weekly impressions (000s).

    22 per cent of kids are watching Ramayan with their grandparents/senior people at home. Co-viewing with 15+ years grew by 88 per cent.

    It’s all-day primetime for Times Network’s English movie channels during lockdown

    MUMBAI: In the third week of lockdown due to COVID-19, Indians decided that they had had enough news and turned to movies for a refreshing change. While Hindi and regional movie channels gained big, English movie channels saw an 83 per cent rise in viewership in week 13 in 2020, according to the BARC-Nielsen report.  

    Times Network English entertainment cluster president – strategy and business head Vivek Srivastava says: “Overall TV viewership has seen a 45 per cent increase during this lockdown period. News and movies have been the two most-watched genres. Movies have exhibited almost 80 per cent growth. Times Network’s English entertainment brands had adapted to the new tariff order (NTO) very well and we barely lost any eyeballs. However, post the implementation of the NTO, few players lost significant viewership, and it is heartening to see that during this lockdown, the category is seeing resurgence and that’s a positive sign.”

    During the ongoing lockdown, the network is treating the whole day as primetime and is scheduling blockbuster Hollywood content throughout the day. Some of the big titles include The Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spiderman Franchise, Despicable Me 3, Cars 3, Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, Ant-Man, Creed 2, Vice, etc.

    Srivastava informs that primetime is still the biggest peak, but there has been significant growth in non-primetime as well, especially the afternoon band. However, advertising has declined during the lockdown period. “That is primarily because of the unavailability of products across most categories and the inability of consumers to step out of their homes during this period. We expect a slowdown till the lockdown remains,” he adds.

    While some advertisers have stopped advertising, those less affected are using it for brand building. For them, the movie genre presents a good opportunity. “We continue to see advertising from BFSI, a few brands in automobiles, e-commerce, consumer durables, and FMCG categories,” he says.

    On the company front, Srivastava says that the Times Network was one of the first broadcasters to adopt a work-from-home system even before the nationwide lockdown was announced. “This was a result of our foresight and preparedness to ensure seamless BCP by equipping our teams with necessary technological services, increased internet bandwidth, collaborative IT tools for meetings and discussions for executing work requirements seamlessly,” he says.

    MUMBAI: In week 13 of BARC India ratings, where most of the GECs were seen losing their position to DD National and slipping down from last week's position, Sony Entertainment Television was the only channel that continued to hold its third position on the pay platform and in the urban market. In fact, the channel has jumped from the seventh position to fifth position in the rural market. This week for the first time DD National grabbed the leading position on pay platform and Urban market. 

    On pay platform DD National, Sony SAB, Sony Entertainment Television, Colors, Star Plus, Zee TV, Dangal, Star Utsav,  DD Bharati and Star Bharat were the top ten channels in the week 13 of BARC India ratings.

    MUMBAI: In week 13 of BARC India ratings, Zee Bangla Cinema replaced Colors Bangla in the Bangla market and Asianet Movies replaced Zee Keralam in the Malayalam market. In the Gujarati market, four news channels grabbed their position in the top five list and Colors Gujarati Cinema was the only movie channel holding its position in the Gujarati market. There was also a new entrant in this market, Zee 24 Kalak, which replaced News 18 Gujarati.

    No top programme, advertiser and brand data for week 13: BARC India

    MUMBAI: Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) will not be able to make available data on top programmes, top advertisers and top brands for week 13. The ratings agency has informed that due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, partners’ operations are disrupted and so it can’t make information available for the week starting 28 March up to 3 April.

    On its website, BARC India says, “BARC India is committed to weekly data release and will be releasing viewership data as scheduled on Thursday, 9 April 2020 at 1 pm. However, partners' operations have got disrupted and data for top programs, top advertisers and top brands are unavailable and hence will not be released for week 13.”

    It further adds, “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your support and wish you safety, good health and peace of mind.”

    BARC week 12: Colors grabs second position on pay platform and urban market

    MUMBAI: Colors grabbed the second position in week 12 of BARC India ratings in the urban market as well as on the pay platform. For more than three consecutive weeks, Sony SAB led the urban market and pay platform. In this week on pay platform, Star Plus slipped down to fourth position from second in the last week; similarly, Zee TV has slipped down to fifth position from fourth. Even Sony Entertainment Television has jumped to third position from fifth in the last week.

    MUMBAI: In week 12 of BARC India ratings, the regional market has witnessed a lot of changes. The Marathi market witnessed a new entrant Shemaroo Marathibana at fifth position. As this was also the second week of lockdown to curb the pandemic Covid-19, it has upped the viewership of news channels in the regional market as well.

    In the Gujarati market, four regional news channels were in the top five list of Gujarati channels; TV9 Gujarati grabbed leading position while last week it was seen at third position. In the Bangla market, Zee Bangla has jumped from the second position to first.
