  • Panamsat reports marginal rise in Q2 revenue

MUMBAI: Satellite operator Panamsat has reported financial results for the second quarter ended 30 June 2004. The company generated revenues of $206.8 million compared to $203.6 million in the second quarter of 2003.

For the six months ended 30 June 2004, total revenues were $412.3 million compared to $403.3 million for the same period last year. Operating lease revenues were $202.7 million for the second quarter of 2004 compared to $199.4 million for the same period last year. The increase in operating lease revenues was primarily attributable to additional government services revenues related to the company’s government services operating segment and an increase in network services revenues related to data services within the Middle East and Vsat applications in North America.

On the flip side, these increases were partially offset by lower video services revenues primarily due to customer credit-related issues in international regions. Earnings per share (EPS) for the second quarter of 2004 were $0.07 per share compared to EPS of $0.20 for last year’s second quarter.

The primary reason for the reduction in EPS was a non-cash charge of approximately $29.6 million recorded in the second quarter of this year. This charge related to the write-off of a customer’s receivable balance. Panamsat had terminated the customer’s agreement citing non-payment.

    NDTV unveils new corporate logo

NEW DELHI: New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV) promoted by Dr Prannoy Roy, has unveiled its new corporate logo. The logo will symbolise the new corporate identity for NDTVs new avatar as a premier broadcasting house.

Designed by Los Angeles based TAG Creative Brand Solutions in collaboration with NDTV’s design team, the new logo retains the connectivity of the letters from the original logo with a stronger, more modern mark.

A red dot. more like the ‘bindi’ sported by Indian Hindu married women, with a strong and distinct motif, has been added in order to tie the logo together while reinforcing the recall from the previous logo. It also communicates NDTV’s core brand values of integrity, credibility, balance and innovation, with added characteristics of energy and passion for quality, a company release says.

An official statement from NDTV, quoting Roy said: “The idea behind the new logo is to maintain continuity with the original logo, while giving it a more contemporary look and ensuring that the same works across all media. The new corporate logo is aimed at communicating the core brand values and NDTVs philosophies as a Media house.”

Roy earlier this month had said the two proposed news channels from NDTV would be launched simultaneously around 1 April. However, it is yet to receive permission from the government to uplink the English-language channel.

NDTV appointed TAG after going through pitches from a number of international graphics and design agencies. Four companies made a bid for the NDTV business. Once the basic designs were agreed on, TAGs team in collaboration with NDTVs design team produced the finished animations.
