  • “It was friends & food that made Crash the IPL possible”: Nikita Deshpande

“It was friends & food that made Crash the IPL possible”: Nikita Deshpande

MUMBAI: The challenge was to seize the opportunity and uncork the creative genius in you. Nikita Deshpande, a budding film-maker from Mumbai, has done just that and has emerged as the first winner of Crash the Pepsi IPL campaign.

Her film titled ‘Served’ beat over 400 films that were submitted by consumers from all over the country to become the first winner in the campaign. Deshpande’s film went on air on 12 April, 2015 as the official Pepsi television commercial during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Deshpande was awarded a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and has won seats for herself and her friends in the esteemed Pepsi VIP box for the match in Chennai.

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com Deshpande says, “It was in March when we sat and decided: let’s go for it. We had a nice and long brainstorming session amongst 12 of us and we came with the idea. The video was shot with Canon 5d Mark II and was edited by Prashant Ramachadran, who was also associated with Badlapur. The entire group was from the film fraternity and that helped a smooth execution. Quality VFX and sound engineering was also exhibited, which made the production quality allusive. The total expenditure of the film was close to Rs 3500 only. We may make a few more ads for the same campaign and in future also I aspire to make more ad films for different brands. I also have dreams of making a feature film… it’s always Dil Mange More.”

Ranbir Kapoor had earlier said, “Crash the Pepsi IPL is a first-of-its-kind campaign in India, and I am excited to team up with Pepsi in judging the entries for this creative challenge! Crash the Pepsi IPL will give people a chance to really uncork their creativity and leave a mark. It’s awesome that Pepsi has put consumers at the forefront of something as big as the Pepsi IPL – it’s a really bold move and I would expect nothing less from Pepsi!”

Congratulating the winner, PepsiCo India senior director marketing – social beverages Ruchira Jaitly said, “The ad film by Nikita Deshpande has hit the bull’s eye with the messaging. The film brilliantly portrays Pepsi as the perfect food accompaniment by weaving in a delectable trail of signature cuisines from the host cities of Pepsi IPL. The connection between cricket, food and fun-times with friends and Pepsi can’t be missed in the ad. We congratulate Nikita on being the first consumer to crash the Pepsi IPL. We look forward to many more such films over the next few weeks. Nikita is exactly the kind of talent we were looking for, as she displays a true reflection of Pepsi’s philosophy of seizing the moment now.”

  • ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ opens weak at the BO

‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ opens weak at the BO

MUMBAI: Dum Laga Ke Haisha opens weak due to lack of promotion and Ayushmann Khurrana’s dropping popularity thanks to his last couple of films but, the film, being a simple and sincere theme and handling earns some good word of mouth.

This shows on its collections on day two, Saturday, when the collections doubled while on Sunday they were two and half times of day one. However, all these in a lower range ending the opening weekend with Rs 6.08 crore.

Ab Tak Chhappan 2, an attempt to ride the sequel wave, fails badly: the subject is outdated this being a sequel to an 11 year old original. Also, the subject and its lead players are no more relevant. And, to top it all, the content is poor and lacks imagination. The film fails to draw audience facing no show status at many theatres. The film’s collections remain as low on Saturday as on the opening day with a negligible rise on Sunday to collect Rs 4.4 crore for the first weekend.

Badlapur sustains to an extent thanks to Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqi fans and the positive media hype as well as reviews. The film ended its first week with Rs 35.8 crore and may add some more as the week has poor oppositions in its second week.

Roy suffers a huge drop in its second week collecting just about Rs 2.45 crore to take its two week total to Rs 35.85 crore.

Shamitabh has added Rs 60 lakh in its third week taking its three week total to Rs 21.1 crore.

Baby has added Rs 1.15 crore in its fifth week to take its five week tally to Rs 79.25 crore.

  • Nawazuddin Siddique to shoot for two Khans back to back

Nawazuddin Siddique to shoot for two Khans back to back

MUMBAI: Nawazuddin Siddique is certainly on a career high. Not only has he defied all the norms with the incredible roles that he has earned for himself in several movies this past year, he has also earned the repute of being perhaps the most promising unconventional leading hero in today’s time.

His recent release, Badlapur has earned him some of the best reviews of his career with reports of audience bursting into applause each time he enters the screen with his quirky punch lines. Though the actor has too little time to relish this success, he will now be seen sharing screen space back to back with Bollywood’s biggest Khans. Starting off with Bajrangi Bhaijaan starring Salman Khan, Siddique will simultaneously rehearse for his role in Rais with Shah Rukh Khan.

This is interesting as both the Khans are always pitted against each other and this time Siddique seems to be the common factor between the two. Co-incidentally both the films will be shot back to back and will have their schedules interspersed with Siddique being a part of both the films.

He will start off the rehearsals for Rais in March while he continues to shoot for Bajrangi Bhaijaan around the same time.

‘PK’ most viewed movie trailer on YouTube

MUMBAI: When it comes to India’s favourite pass time, nothing comes close to Bollywood.

The growing user base of YouTube in India has driven movie producers/distributors to the platform to test the waters, and get instant reactions on the movie’s potential success at the Box Office.

With over a billion users worldwide, Indian movie trailers are enjoyed by a global audience, but what matters the most to the producers is the viewership and popularity of trailers in India. In the list of the top 10 movie trailers viewed in India from October to December 2014, the trailer of PK rules the charts.

Interestingly, horror has also emerged to be one of the most consumed genre when it comes to movie trailers with the trailer of Alone bagging the third position on the chart. Khamoshiyan, MSG, and Dolly ki Doli were also among the others that grabbed a place in the list of most watched trailers.
