    MUMBAI: On 31 March, Sony Pictures released the first trailer of their upcoming film, Sex Tape which revolves around the time when Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) first got together, their romantic connection was intense – but ten years and two kids later, the flame of their love needs a spark.

    To kick things up a notch, they decide – why not? – to make a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session. It seems like a great idea – until they discover that their most private video is no longer private. With their reputations on the line, they know they’re just one click away from being laid bare to the world… but as their race to reclaim their video leads to a night they’ll never forget, they’ll find that their video will expose even more than they bargained for.

    How I Met Your Mother star, Jason Segel stars alongside Golden Globe Award nominee Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels, Bad Teacher) in this romantic comedy from Kate Angelo, the writer and producer of Will & Grace and What About Brian. Also starring is Rob Lowe (The West Wing, Brothers & Sisters) and Golden Globe Award nominee Jack Black (School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda) with EMMY Award winner Rob Corddry (Children’s Hospital) and Ellie Kemper (The Office). The film is directed by Bad Teacher and New Girl helmer, Jake Kasdan.

    Columbia Pictures begins development on ‘Bad Teacher’ sequel

    MUMBAI: Columbia Pictures is developing Bad Teacher 2, to be directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Justin Malen, it was announced today by Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad and Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio. Jimmy Miller, Jake Kasdan, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will produce the film, and Melvin Mar will be the executive producer. The project is being developed for Cameron Diaz to star in the film but no deal is yet set with the actress.

    Commenting on the announcement, Minghella said, “Bad Teacher was a hit not just in North America, but throughout the world. We‘re excited that Jake will be returning to develop and helm the sequel. We love Justin‘s take on the material – it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun.”

    When it was released in 2011, Bad Teacher was a global hit taking in $216 million. It was also recently announced that Bad Teacher will be coming to CBS television next season in a half-hour series starring Ari Graynor. The Sony Pictures Television and CBS Television Studios co-production received a 13-episode midseason order.

    Columbia Pictures senior VP production Jonathan Kadin will oversee development of the project for the studio along with Minghella.

    Jake Kasdan is in pre-production on Sony Pictures‘ Sex Tape, also starring Cameron Diaz, with Jason Segel. He most recently directed and executive produced episodes of the hit series New Girl. Kasdan made his feature film debut as writer and director of Zero Effect and also directed the pilots for the television series Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared;returning to feature films, he directed Orange County, wrote, directed and produced The TV Set, co-wrote and directed Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and directed and executive produced Bad Teacher.

    Justin Malen‘s feature film screenplay Bastards was named on The Black List of one of the best unproduced screenplays in 2011. He also completed a rewrite of the comedy project The Manny for Red Wagon and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

    Malen is represented by Verve and H2F, and Eisenberg and Stupnitsky are repped by Mosaic and WME. Kasdan is represented by WME.

    CBS orders a new comedy ‘Bad Teacher’ for 2013-2014 season

    MUMBAI: US broadcaster CBS has ordered the comedy ‘Bad Teacher’ for the 2013-2014 season.

     

    It is based on the film, which starred Cameron Diaz. The TV show stars Ari Graynor as an always inappropriate, fearless and unapologetic former trophy wife who masquerades as a teacher in order to find a new man after her wealthy husband leaves her penniless.

    Hilary Winston, Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky, Sam Hansen, Jimmy Miller and Michael Lasker are executive producers for Sony Pictures Television in association with CBS Television Studios and Mosaic Media Group.

    Bad Teacher crosses $ 200 million mark

    MUMBAI: This summer, Sony’s Bad Teacher has become the third R-rated comedy to cross the $200 million mark worldwide.


    The film that stars Cameron Diaz hit the milestone over the weekend, earning $2.2 million at the foreign box office for a new international cumulative total of $102.6 million.


    The film, also starring Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake, has grossed $98.1 million domestically for a world total of $200.7 million.


    The film’s better-than-expected performance means strong profit margins for Sony that made the film for under $20 million. The studio purchased Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky’s script in 2008.


    Warner Bros.’ The Hangover Part II, that opened in theatres on 26 May has earned a whopping $581.2 million worldwide followed by Universal’s Bridesmaids that has grossed $272.9 million globally since its release on 13 May.


    The summer’s other notable R-rated comedy is New Line and Warners’ Horrible Bosses that has, to date, totaled $170.4 million worldwide.
