BB2 has continued its midas touch during its screening on the idiot box as well. As reported by us earlier, the screening of the movie in week 41 of 2017 had catapulted Hindi movie channel Sony Max to fourth place, just behind three GEC channels (one Tamil and two Hindi) in Broadcast Audience Research Council’s (BARC) weekly list of top 10 channels across genres. Week 41 of 2017 was the week leading to the biggest Indian festival season- Diwali. The movie earned gold for the Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) Hindi Movies channel during Diwali week – week 42 of 2017 (Saturday, 14 October 2017 to Friday, 20 October 2017) by pushing it to number two position in the top 10 channels list across genres. With the Sun Network’s flagship Tamil GEC at the pole position, Star Max was the most watched Hindi channel in the HSM market in week 42 of 2017.

Two major Hindi GEC channels – Star India’s flagship Star Plus and Network 18’s (Viacom 18) Colors exited the top 10 channels across genres list in week 42 of 2017 to be replaced by two Telugu GEC channels. The channels that replaced the Hindi GEC stalwart channels were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) flagship Telugu GEC Zee Telugu and the Network 18 associated ETV Telugu.

Three channels each from Zeel and SPN, two channels from Star India and one channel each from The Sun Network and Network 18 comprised the list of top 10 channels across genres for week 42 of 2017. From the genres perspective, five Hindi GEC, three Telugu GEC and one channel each from the Tamil GEC and Hindi Movies genres constituted the top 10 channels across genres in week 42 of 2017.

  • Baahubali 2 to premiere on Sony Max on 8 Oct

Baahubali 2 to premiere on Sony Max on 8 Oct

MUMBAI: Sony MAX, a Hindi movies channel from Sony Pictures Networks, is  bringing the epic saga from the Kingdom of Mahishmati, Baahubali 2: The conclusion. Directed by the showman of southern India movies, S.S. Rajamouli, this extravagant heroic tale of Baahubali will be premiering on Sony MAX on 8 October at 1pm.

Boasting of awe-inspiring finesse, this larger than life story of Baahubali’s unfinished tale will reveal the biggest question of why Kattappa killed Baahubali. Creating a new landmark for Indian cinema, this magnum opus gives viewers a glimpse into the fairytale world while Kattappa narrates the story of Mahishmati.

Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty in pivotal roles, this revenge drama is a visual treat for viewers while it takes them through a flashback into life of Baahubali.

S.S. Rajamouli says: “Sony MAX had done a brilliant job in the way they promoted & marketed Baahubali in 2015 and we were hoping that they get the telecast rights this time too.  We are more than delighted to know that India’s No.1 Hindi movie channel is going to be our television partners once again. They treated our film like their own baby and we couldn’t have asked for a better partner to showcase our movie across millions of households.”

Actor Prabhas says: “TV has a greater connect with the masses and I really feel that the impact of a film gets extremely enhanced as it reaches out to millions through television. It definitely guarantees a better reach and a lot of people out there tune in to Sony MAX to watch movies. I’m extremely happy about the world television premiere of ‘Baahubali 2’ on Sony MAX and I am excited that more people will get to watch the movie.”

Actor Rana Daggubati says: “It takes a lot to do a film like Baahubali. A large part of this is actually allocated to the camaraderie that the entire team shared. All of us stuck to a vision Rajamouli had given us. We really belonged to a world, we just believed in Rajamouli’s vision. We knew this was the biggest visual spectacle coming out.”

  • Baahubali 2 emerges as highest grossing film on Paytm Movies

MUMBAI: Paytm has announced that the much-awaited Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has been on a record-breaking spree, experiencing strong demand from more than 3500 screens across 520 cities in India – more than any other movie on the platform. The company is expecting sustained demand in the second week, with gross collections likely to cross Rs. 100 crore on Paytm alone.

Baahubali 2 has opened to a great run at the box office and the film is running to houseful shows across the country from day one. With early sales showing an upward trend, Paytm has experienced an eight times surge in overall traffic in the film’s opening week and accounted for more than 30% market share to the Hindi version’s opening weekend. It has also leveraged its massive supply chain of regional theatres, with tier II and tier III theaters accounting for more than 60% of the movie’s overall business.

Paytm’s convenient QR-based offline ticketing systems available at leading theatres across India have also helped ease the rush outside ticket counters. This has enabled the widest range of multiplex and local theaters to offer a quick and easy offline ticketing experience to Baahubali fans across the country.

Baahubali 2 hit the big screen on 28 April 2017. Available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, the movie is a sequel to the visual wonder Baahubali – The Beginning. The initial film launched on 10th July 2015 invited tremendous appreciation from the local and international audience.

  • Dubbed film Baahubali 2 survives IPL fever

Finally the film the moviegoer as well as the exhibition trade have been waiting for: Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, hits the screens. There will be debates about its merits. Its comparison with the first part, Baahubali: The Beginning, is inevitable. However, one subject, on which there will be no debates, is the film’s box office prospects.

Baahubali: The Beginning created a solid ground work for this film, created a brand equity and made the audience wait for the Conclusion. Those involved made the most of it as they planned an open week release for the film at over 4,000 screens, a rare phenomenon for a dubbed South origin film.

What Baahubali2 is expected to do at the box office is beyond what any Hindi film has done so far and may, hopefully, inspire Hindi filmmakers. Salman Khan and Aamir Khan have been the best draws so far when it comes to Hindi films. But, even their hit films fall short by a length of what this South dubbed film is expected to achieve. The film also stands to gain on its first Monday, it being a holiday in Maharashtra and some other states.

The 45-day long Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 tournament, during which release of major films is avoided, seems to have had no effect on the collections of this film.

The film opened to full or near full houses and maintained figures of over Rs 40 crore on all days of its opening weekend to come up with collections figure of Rs 128 crore for three days.

*Noor, a film based on the Pakistani author/journalist SabaImtiaz’s book ‘Karachi You Are Killing Me!’ proves a damp squib. Totally out of sync with audience taste, the film fails badly. It manages to collect Rs 6.6 crore in its opening week.

*Maatr, RavinaTandon’s film about gang rape and revenge finds few takers. The film just about crosses one crore mark to collect Rs 1.1 crore in its first week.

*Begum Jaan collects Rs 2.75 crore in its second week to take its two week tally to Rs 17.85 crore.
