    B4U brings Bollwood to Manhattan

    A day of fun and excitement in New York as B4U Television Network vows the crowds at the annual India Independence Day Parade >on Sunday 18th August 2013.

    The India Day Parade, celebrating its 33rd anniversary attracted a diverse audience from all around America and is considered the largest Independence Day parade in the world outside India. Madison Avenue was closed for the festivities as decorative floats brought a slice of Indian culture to scores of onlookers.

    More than 25,000 people attended the event which was organised by the Federation Of Indian Associations With special guests including Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, and Tamil film star Sarath Kumar, the event celebrated India’s 67th Independence day with exclusive performances, marching bands, a procession of over forty floats and mouth-watering food. The veteran social activist Anna Hazare also marched along with hundreds of his supporters.

    B4U kept the crowds entertained with live music and a large float that was seen as one of the most colourful attractions of the event. DJ Ladla on the B4U float played some catchy Bollywood tracks and patriotic songs as the crowds swayed along. The colours of the B4U logo red, white and black adorned the float and were the cynosure of all eyes. B4U branded T-shirts and goodie bags were given away by the B4U team to thousands who lined up through the parade.

    As the worldwide pioneer of Bollywood entertainment, B4U certainly lived up to its reputation as it represented Indian cinema and celebrated Bollywood music at this prestigious event in New York City.

  • 9X Media Network restructures national sales team

    MUMBAI: Music television network 9X Media Pvt Ltd has announced a national restructuring of its sales team which will come into effect from 26 April.

    Samir Kadam has been appointed national sales head at 9X Jalwa (the all time Bollywood Hits channel) and 9X Jhakaas (India‘s first Marathi music channel). He has earlier worked with Star Network, Zee TV and B4U. Before joining 9X Media, Kadam was handling the national sales for Star Jalsha Movies.

    The network has also elevated Anupama Gulati to handle the national sales responsibilities for the network‘s international music channel – 9XO. She will also head the brand solutions function for the network. Sachin Malhotra has been promoted to handle 9X Tashan sales across India. The sales responsibility for the group‘s flagship channel 9XM will be shared between Rajiv Sharma in North and Johnson Jain in West. All the sales heads will continue to report to 9X Media Group chief revenue officer Pawan Jailkhani. This structure will come into effect from the last week of April 2013.

    Jailkhani said, “The past 18 months have been very exciting for 9X Media Group. We have grown manifold times both in terms of ad revenues and our music channels offerings. Keeping in mind the current and future needs of our Network we have strengthened our sales team with internal and external appointments. This will enable more focused sales considering our diverse portfolio of music channels. I would also like to welcome Samir to 9X Media Group. I am confident that Samir will add tremendous value to the team.”

    MUMBAI: Amar Dixit has joined B4U as regional sales head North and East.

    Dixit will be handling B4U Music and B4U Movies. He will be reporting to B4U Network national sales head CF Moses.

    His last stint was with 9X as group head (senior manager)-ad sales where he was handling four channels 9xm, 9XO, 9X Jhakas and Tashan.

    Dixit comes with an experience of 11 years in the media industry across print, radio and TV.

    B4U acquires overseas movie telecast rights from Sahara for Rs 15 million

    MUMBAI: B4U Group has acquired overseas TV telecast rights to around 35 movies from Sahara One Media and Entertainment Ltd. for Rs 15 million.

    The movies include Page 3, Sarkar and Hanuman. B4U will also have telecast rights to some of Boney Kapoor’s films. Last year, Sahara had acquired satellite and pay TV broadcast rights worldwide and in perpetuity to the entire library of Kapoor’s films.

    B4U Movies can show these films in all other markets except India. The channel has a presence in more than 100 countries including the US, UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Mauritius and Canada.

    “We have taken rights to around 35 films from Sahara for our international channels. These include strong lineups like Sarkar, Hanuman and Page 3, but include some library products as well. The rights are non exclusive,” said a source in B4U.

    B4U’s Indian operations, however, continue to be starved of funds. The company has stopped movie acquisitions in India for almost two years. Though B4U gave carriage fee to cable TV operators for beefing up distribution of its two channels (B4U Movies and B4U Music) across the country, very little investment has been made on content.

    B4U’s Gautam joins UTV as film distribution, India head

    MUMBAI: B4U Network chief operating officer of India operations BL Gautam has quit the company. He has joined UTV Software Communications where he will head the film distribution business in India. He will also commercially facilitate greenlighting of movie projects.

    “Gautam has joined us. He will head our domestic film distribution business. He will also work closely with our movie project heads and be engaged in the commercial side of it like budgeting, reviewing the production process and negotiating,” says UTV Software Communications COO Ronald D’Mello. Aditya Shastri, who had joined UTV as COO motion pictures production, recently left the company.

    Before joining B4U, Gautam was with Zee Telefilms where he served as senior vice-president and moved on to become director commercial from 2000 to 2004. Prior to that, Gautam served the Indian Government as the superintendent of customs and was awarded the presidential Award in 1998 for distinguished service in that role.

    UTV has been enjoying major successes on the movie front with productions like the Aamir Khan super hit Rang De Basanti hitting the jackpot. The company has also distributed products in various territories including heavyweight titles such as Lagaan, Lakshya, Mission Kashmir, Parineeta and Viruddh.

    B4U Network is yet to announce a replacement for Gautam. The company owns and runs B4U Movies and B4U Music.
