Star Sports India tops Twitter brand index for World Cup 2015

MUMBAI: Star India’s sports venture Star Sports sustained its reach on social media platform to gain the pole position on the Twitter brand index for Cricket World Cup 2015. Star Sports was followed by HDFC Life and Alto K10 in the second and third position respectively.

Twitter brand index for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

    Star Sports

Star Sports has consistently been featured amongst the top conversations on CWC15 with its popular video series that started with the India vs Pakistan group game. Every India victory in the competition meant a new video for the upcoming game. Using the viral hashtag #MaukaMauka that spawned its own memes and tribute versions, the campaign managed to capture the imagination of Indian cricket fans. Over and above this thematic campaign, Star Sports continued to connect with fans over its hashtag #WontGiveItBack – People could tweet to the handle with the hashtag and get the schedule of the matches in the cup.

    HDFC Life

HDFC Life brought the Indian cricket fan together with the hashtag #MyTeamMyPride. Under the aegis of the hashtag the brand engaged with fans on predictions, contests and general comments around the game. Users loved the hashtag and used it as one of the top rallying cries this CWC15.

    Alto K10

Alto K10 is one of the few car brands that used CWC15 to talk to its target group. With a creative spin on their brand tagline Chase Life, Alto has engaged the Indian cricket fan under its chase campaigns across the hashtags #ChaseCricket and #ChaseMaster. They ran a popular Sorry Sir contest where they invited people to tweet back to them with funny ideas for ways to skip college or office and watch India games. Using topical caricatures, contests and celebrating the team’s victory with fans Alto K10 got people to send them their selfies in blue to show support to the team – Chaselife. They were able to successfully take things that fans enjoy and blend their brand into that conversation.

    Nike Cricket

A part of the #BleedBlue campaign – Nike created a chant (BleedBlue), which has been reverberating amongst supporters of the Indian cricket team since 2011. This has become the war cry of the Indian fan and this World Cup, Nike shared BleedBlue stories of fan and celebrities alike. As a part of the BleedBlue campaign, the official apparel manufacturer of the Indian cricket team also sent out personalised jerseys to sports stars, celebrities and other members of the sports fraternity. This helped the personalities show their loyalty using the hashtag BleedBlue. The most retweeted advertiser tweet of the CWC was the tweet that they sent out on the day of the semi-finals – asking people to show their support to the team by RT-ing the tweet.

    Lays India

Lays climbed the chart by rallying the cricket fan on Twitter with the hashtags #LaysKePlays and #TicketKaGame contest. Winners of the contest were given the opportunity to watch the finals of the CWC15 live in Australia. They asked people to tweet with the hasthtag #TicketKaGame to reveal what the contest was going to be. The more the tweets, the faster was the reveal. #LaysKePlays asked users to tweet back to the handle with creative uses of cricket lingo and make it relevant to Lays.

    Lava Mobile

Lava ran a prediction contest with goodies to be won. Technology brands and contests seemed to be a potent mix on Twitter and users loved it. They tied this in with a brand campaign around their X8 handset. The hashtag they used was #X8HighPerformer. It was a smart way to build the X8’s positioning on performance basis strong performances in the matches.

    Castrol Cricket

Castrol followed, what in hindsight, seems like the winning model of a good hashtag, a contest and good content. They entered with the hashtag – #ClingOnToTheCup. Their biggest execution this CWC was when they asked people to tweet to them with their pictures and they would put those pictures up on the digital fence at the stadium during the game. Fans loved the idea of being able to become a part of the game in this manner.

    Axis Bank

Axis Bank built engagement around cricketing rituals. Given the level of fanatical support for the game and the national team, people tweeted about how they do not take bath before games, drink water during games or leave their seats when a particular player is on a roll. Axis Bank used this insight to great effect by inviting people to share their rituals. They sustained engagement by continuing activity on Twitter beyond just match days to an Always On Strategy.

    Score With Data

The Indian cricket fan loves data and statistics. IBM latched on to this insight and created this handle to share powerful data led insights through the CWC. People followed this account for live insights on players as the game progressed.

    Dairy Milk

Dairy Milk was another brand that used contests very well. People joined in on the contest FansOfJoy where they were asked to WhatsApp their #FansOfJoy pics to grab their moment of fame in leading dailies. Apart from this there was a quiz where people stood to win Cadbury Dairy Milk hampers.

    Club Mahindra

Club Mahindra was able to find creative ways to integrate stories from their resorts into the game. They put the Mandala from their logo to great use with tweets around the toss, when Virat Kohli was hitting 4s and 6s and when he reached his 100. When there was a great catch on the pitch they were ready with a tweet that showed someone catching a fish at one of their resorts and drew parallels of what a great catch looked like at Club Mahindra.

  • A ‘Milestone’ Journey…

    A ‘Milestone’ Journey…

GOA: It is myth that in GoaFest it is only the glamorous agencies which participate. Over the last two years, it can be noted that many new specialised agencies have taken home Abbys for impressive pieces of advertising. Among this set of newbie winners is Milestone Brandcom.

Indiantelevision.com asked Milestone Brandcom MD Nabendu Bhattacharyya how it feels to sweep away Abbys amongst many other mainline agencies.

Take a look at what he had to say…

“Looking back at our four year journey in the dynamic industry that we call advertising, I am filled with pride at Milestone Brandcom’s journey and success. Yesterday at the GoaFest, we won five out of the seven awards that we were shortlisted for and placed third on the table, competing with industry stalwarts. It is a very big moment for us at Milestone Brandcom and we hope to accomplish much more.

I grew up in Kolkata, surrounded by art, football and culture but my first love was always advertising. Two of my brothers were creative directors in advertising agencies so naturally I set the bar high for myself. In 1993, I kick started my career as a summer trainee at Ulka when advertising was just coming into its own. It was obvious that the possibilities in Indian advertising were endless and largely unexplored. I went on to leave my family and girlfriend who later became my wife behind in Kolkata to work at Selvel’s Delhi office where I had my first brush with the OOH industry. After five years at the company, I decided to move on to Emirates Neon in Dubai, hoping to learn more. As I never really fell in love with Dubai, I returned to join Mudra’s JV with Vertigo and a year later I joined Ogilvy in 1999 where the idea of Milestone Brandcom was conceived.

Starting as a senior consultant, my journey at Ogilvy has made me who I am today and has had a considerable effect on Milestone Brandcom’s journey as well. After 10 eventful years at Ogilvy and over 16 years in the industry, I decided to start Milestone Brandcom with four colleagues after the bottom line started to restrain our creativity. Today, we at Milestone Brandcom put creativity and delivery above everything else and the success of our campaigns stand testament to that.

We started with just 25 passionate employees in six offices, our head quarters being a tiny space in Andheri. We had a few clients and many skeptics. We wanted to change industry standards, we wanted to weed out the hurdles that came along with corporate culture and we wanted to deliver. Due to our persistence and knowledge, we quickly went on to win some of the biggest OOH accounts such as Colors, McDonalds, Binani Cement, Axis Bank, Dish TV, Tanishq and Tata Docomo within six months. Through strategic planning, innovative technology and creative solutions, Milestone Brandcom has completely transformed the outdoor landscape to bring about a forward looking, healthy and positive outlook towards the industry.

As I write this, Milestone Brandcom is a game-changer in the industry that employs over 200 employees with offices/representatives in 42 cities in the country and over 100 active brands. The story of the underdog doesn’t end there. We are also the largest OOH agency in India.

I hope we add many more ‘milestones’ in our journey ahead…”

  • SMG India wins Gold at the 5th edition of I-Com global summit 2014

SMG India wins Gold at the 5th edition of I-Com global summit 2014

MUMBAI: Starcom MediaVest Group has been awarded the prestigious I-Com Data Creativity Award for their media analytics work on Axis Bank in India. I-Com received more than 80 award submissions from various agencies across the globe and ten shortlists were invited to the Global Summit in Seville for the final round. SMG India was represented at the 5th I-COM Global Summit 2014 by Aarti Bharadwaj, VP,  SMG India Data &Analytics.

“This win is a milestone for the analytics practice within SMG,” said Malli CR, CEO, SMG India.“SMG India has emerged as a center for product development and thought leadership in analytics that is then scaled across the globe. The India team has executed complex marketing analytics projects for SMG offices in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia.”

SMG India is focused on digital, content and analytics at the core of what it offers to its clients with a belief that precision marketing, scaled content and innovation fueled by real time data and analytics are central to the future of the industry.

SMG’s pioneering work in this area provides a possible measurement system that helps brands evaluate all media, traditional and offline using the same metrics. This addresses a major gap in the media industry: marketers are familiar and comfortable with the measurement metrics of traditional media using GRPs, reach and frequency. Digital, as a medium, is highly measured, and with a great level of accuracy. However, the measurement metrics of digital are not comparable with the metrics of traditional media making the comparison of efficiency metrics across media highly challenging.

SMG’s winning work with Axis Bank used advanced attribution modeling techniques to derive a framework that captures the impact of paid, owned and earned media on business, be it sales or salience, in a mesh of direct and indirect effects. The framework, therefore, evaluates the role of all media investments by the brand in terms of effectiveness in driving business. All media, be it traditional or digital media, are evaluated in terms of their relative contribution toward business, enabling comparison across media.

Speaking of their future forward signature POEM approach, Bharadwaj said: “The well-researched consultancy rendered to our clients has helped allocate investments so as to optimize paid media while also amplifying owned and earned media content. We are extremely proud to have won GOLD at an esteemed global platform like I-COM Data Creativity Award this year for Axis Bank.”

Delighted at the win, Mr. SagnikGhosh, Head  Marketing, Axis Bank extended his compliments to the team stating,  “ There were some very interesting observations &learnings that came through the POEM analysis done by SMG India. For a Bank of our size and presence, it is important to understand the attribution that goes towards the Owned Medium Vs. Paid or Earned. We have a large presence on ground through over 2,300 Branches and over 12,000 ATMs, which is itself of tremendous media value. We also have a robust digital presence through our website, online banking and social media assets. It was important to understand what contributes towards building the brand. We have taken some of the learnings on board and are in the process of making some changes to our media mix. “

The agency‘s aggressive intent played out in 2012 as it made four acquisitions in India, three of which were digital entities – Indigo Consulting, Resultrix and iStrat. The other one marketing consultancy firm Marketgate.

In 2012, Publicis‘ major account wins in India included Nestle, Airtel, Axis Bank, Bharti Walmart, Dabur and HP.

Publicis does not disclose its revenue figures in India. According to RECMA report, the Groupe’s billings in 2011, through its media agencies in the country ZenithOptimedia and Starcom MediaVest, grew by 32.56 per cent to touch $570 million.

On a global level, Publicis‘ growth from Europe has slowed to 5.6 per cent. North America has seen stronger growth at 15.6 per cent.

The company saw its total revenue rise by 13.7 per cent to 6.61 billion euro from 5.82 billion euro in 2011. Net income grew 22.8 per cent to 737 million euro.

Digital activities accounted for 32.9 per cent of total revenue, up from 30.6 per cent during the previous year. The high-growth economies generated 25.5 per cent of total revenue, up from 24.3 per cent in 2011.

Strictly digital activities accounted for the largest portion of consolidated revenue (33 per cent, up from 31 per cent in 2011), followed by “analog” creative advertising (30 per cent, down from 31 per cent the previous year), the SAMS (unchanged at 19 per cent) and media 18 per cent (after 19 per cent in 2011).

For the fourth quarter ended 31 December 2012, the Groupe’s revenue was 1.9 billion euro, up 11.9 per cent from Q4 FY 12’s 1.7 billion euro. Europe grew at 9.4 per cent, North America at 9.2 per cent, BRIC+MISSAT at 29.3 per cent and the Rest of the World at 9.6 per cent.

Says Publicis Groupe chairman and CEO Maurice Lévy, “2012 was to be the year of recovery, but turned out to be difficult, uncertain and disappointing as regards growth and employment, especially in Europe. Yet it was a record year for Publicis Groupe in terms of revenue, margin, income and the strength of its balance sheet. The global advertising market had been expected to grow by 4.7 per cent, but actual growth will fell below the 3 per cent mark with advertising income from Euro 2012 and the London Olympics well below expectations. We owe our good performance to the trust our clients have in us, but also to the talent, passion and outstanding professionalism of our people whose agility and speed of response enabled us to bring our clients original, innovative and creative solutions.”

Levy believes the touch conditions would continue to prevail in 2013, with the American market, the high-growth economies and the digital services sector being the possible silver linings.

“2013 is shaping up to be a difficult year, a year of uncertainty, with a number of bridges to be crossed. Even though the euro crisis now appears to be behind us, the situation in Europe is still highly contrasted and advertising investment forecasts are down on 2012. The latest market growth forecasts from ZenithOptimedia are quite high (4.1 per cent in December after 4.6 per cent in October) but also fragile. Growth is chiefly expected from the USA, the high-growth economies and the digital services sector… Publicis Groupe therefore intends to continue to pursue its strategy of expanding its digital business and its presence in high-growth economies, through priority investments targeting segments that will ensure its future growth while bolstering its profitability over time,” says Levy.
