India TV’s Rajat Sharma wins ‘Media Icon 2022 from India Award’ in London

Mumbai: At a glittering ceremony in London, India TV chairman and editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma was conferred with the Media Icon of 2022 from India Award by World Consulting & Research Corporation (WCRC).

The event was organised by WCRCINT & WCRC leaders at the House of Lords in the Palace of Westminster and The Carisbrooke Hall at Victory Services Club, London.

India TV managing director Ritu Dhawan was conferred with the World’s Best Leader 2022 award, while India TV was identified as the World’s Best Brand 2022 for being the most credible and meaningful source of information.

In the presence of industry experts, corporate stalwarts, and luminaries, more than 50 best global companies and individuals were honoured.

India TV is the nation’s leading Hindi news channel and has consistently topped the news charts. Its success has been possible due to its fast-paced consistency and credibility in reporting events that take place in India and the rest of the world.

Rajat Sharma, one of the pioneers of TV journalism in India, has been leading India TV from the front with his two most popular shows, the longest-running TV show, Aap Ki Adalat, and the daily prime-time news show, Aaj Ki Baat. A Padma Bhushan awardee, Rajat Sharma has been grilling political leaders, prime ministers, film stars, godmen, and artists for the last 27 years, while his prime-time show Aaj Ki Baat encapsulates the happenings of the day in a fast-paced format.

Dhawan is the livewire behind-the-scenes person who has been directing the Aap Ki Adalat show since its inception in 1993. Apart from her onerous responsibilities in management, she has been the brain behind the new look of the India TV channel, heading the massive team effort between anchors, producers, reporters, camerapersons, graphics designers, video editors, and programmers, lending panache to the overall news telecast.

Nominations for Oscars 2022 announced: Here is the full list

Los Angeles: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday announced nominations for the 94th annual Academy Awards which included films in a range of genres.

“The Power of the Dog” led among nominated films with 12 nods. The drama’s director, Jane Campion, made history by becoming the first woman to be nominated more than once for best director. The acclaimed New Zealand filmmaker was previously nominated for the 1993 drama, “The Piano” (Last year, “Nomadland” director Chloé Zhao became just the second woman to ever win the award.)

The nine other best picture contenders are “Belfast,” “Coda,” “Don’t Look Up,” “Drive My Car,” “Dune,” “King Richard,” “Licorice Pizza,” “Nightmare Alley,” and “West Side Story.”

Fellow directing nominee Steven Spielberg also set a new record. As the producer of “West Side Story,” which earned a total of seven nominations, Spielberg has now produced 11 films nominated for best picture, a new record for the Oscars.

Denzel Washington extended the record he already holds as the most nominated Black actor, earning his tenth Oscar nomination for his performance in “The Tragedy of Macbeth.” In addition, Will Smith scored his third lead actor Oscar nomination for “King Richard,” a portrait of tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams’s ambitious father. Smith was previously nominated for his roles in “Ali” and “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

The other performers recognised in the Best Actor category are Javier Bardem (“Being the Ricardos”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog”) and Andrew Garfield (“tick, tick…BOOM!”).

The contenders vying for the best actress statuette are Jessica Chastain (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”), Olivia Colman (“The Lost Daughter”), Penélope Cruz (“Parallel Mothers”), Nicole Kidman (“Being the Ricardos”) and Kristen Stewart (“Spencer”).

Netflix has conquered the world of streaming video but the company is still chasing Hollywood’s most coveted prize: The best picture award. However, the streaming giant has a good shot to win this year with “The Power of the Dog. “The company also distributed fellow best picture nominee “Don’t Look Up” as well as the Lin-Manuel Miranda-directed musical “tick, tick…BOOM!”

As the above-listed contenders woke up to some welcome news Tuesday morning, other hopefuls were not so fortunate. Notable Oscar snubs this year included:

Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” which failed to earn a Best Picture nod along with stars Lady Gaga, Adam Driver and supporting player Jared Leto who were all locked out of the acting races — potential casualties of the film’s mixed-to-negative reviews and so-so box-office performance.

“West Side Story” breakout star Rachel Zegler, who won a Golden Globe last month for her performance as María Vasquez, got shut out of the best actress category.

“Dune” director Denis Villeneuve, who was previously nominated for the sci-fi drama “Arrival” (2016), failed to pick up the best director nomination, although “Dune” racked up an impressive 10 nods.

Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” Rebecca Hall’s “Passing” and Asghar Farhadi’s “A Hero” — three of the year’s most critically venerated films — walked away empty-handed. While Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim, the two young stars of Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza” fell short of acting honors.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” shattered box office records but failed to earn a nod for the Best Picture category.

  • ET Now concludes the 9th season of Leaders of Tomorrow Awards and Conclave

ET Now concludes the 9th season of Leaders of Tomorrow Awards and Conclave

Mumbai: ET Now has recently concluded the ninth season of ‘Leaders of Tomorrow Awards and Conclave’ which celebrates the success stories of India’s most innovative and resilient MSMEs and start-ups. This year’s event was driven by the theme ’Survive. Revive. Thrive’.

The event witnessed a distinguished line-up of speakers including principal economic advisor to GoI, Sanjeev Sanyal; IDFC First Bank MD and CEO V Vaidyanathan; BSE MD and CEO Ashish Chauhan, and HSBC India former country head Naina Lal Kidwai amongst others, who discussed the challenges faced by the small businesses and the way forward for India’s small enterprises and start-ups.

The distinguished jury of industry luminaries included Naina Lal Kidwai; Mahindra & Mahindra former MD Pawan Goenka; BSE head of SME Ajay Thakur; True Beacon & Zerodha co-founder and CIO Nikhil Kamath; Vinati Organics MD Vinati Saraf Mutreja; Growthstory investor partner and serial entrepreneur K Ganesh; Persistent Systems chairman Anand Deshpande; ASSOCHAM president and TCI MD Vineet Agarwal, and JBM Group vice-chairman Nishant Arya.

The event culminated in an exciting finale wherein the best MSMEs and startups were awarded. EF Polymer was named ‘Start-Up Entrepreneur of the Year’ and Keetronics India clinched ‘MSME Entrepreneur of the Year’.

“ET Now has been championing India’s growth story with a focused purpose of helping Indians rise with India. This mission reflects in our flagship property, Leaders of Tomorrow that empowers, enables and celebrates the spirit of small businesses and start-ups that are together powering the rise of a strong new India,” said Times Network MD and CEO MK Anand. “It is heartening to witness stories of several enterprising small businesses who not only showed resilience but rose through the adversities to innovate, reimagine and reinvent during the turbulent past two years. I firmly believe that Leaders of Tomorrow will continue to inspire more and more Indians to take the plunge and create new stories of entrepreneurial success.”

“The Indian economy has bounced back after the first and second wave because the underlying human consumption is very strong in India,” said IDFC First Bank’s V Vaidyanathan. “All the major indicators of the economy – GDP, house sales, car and two-wheeler sales, and FMCG products’ consumption have been marking an upward trend. The power of an economy lies in its credit. The Indian banking industry’s current outstanding total credit is over 120 lakh crores, out of which about 50 lakh crore is for entrepreneurs. After 75 years, small entrepreneur credit is growing by 25-30 per cent per year. SMEs are being benefited tremendously by the power of leverage, which was earlier reserved for large corporations.”

Highlighting the need for entrepreneurs to shift to an organised environment from an unorganised one, he said, “Migration from unorganised to organised is the need of the hour. The Indian retail industry or kirana market is a trillion-dollar market, out of which 80-84 per cent is unorganised and only four per cent is online. Every industry is now becoming organised, offline to online. For entrepreneurs, this is an opportunity to ride the new bandwagon and not just be spectators. The leaders of tomorrow need to have a digital play.”

Sanjeev Sanyal stated, “As the Indian economy revives post-pandemic, we observed that the impact in the second wave was much lesser as compared to the first wave. Things are stabilising and industries are opening up now and we realise that demand is not a constraint in India. Globally, this is a serious issue, but India has been able to overcome this as our fiscal resources are strong. Our supply sector reforms are unparalleled. During the first wave, we focused on framework reforms like GST, Aadhar, labour reforms, and farm laws, however, the second wave reforms are more sectoral in nature like deregulation, monetisation, and privatisation of industries.”

Talking about the third wave reforms which are currently in the pipeline, Sanyal further said, “Our thrust during the third wave reforms would be to get the Indian state to do what it should be doing which includes, delivery of justice, enforcement of contract, and upgradation of municipal services. We plan to give access to world-class infrastructure to poorer sections of the society to foster innovations. I do not believe in rigid planning, rather focus on growth strategy that is based on flexibility and resilience. One big example of this is ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ which focuses on leveraging our inner strengths. We as a nation need to give ourselves enough credit. Today, we delivered over 20 million Covid-19 jabs and I feel this is incredible, we have the capacity to deliver at this high level.”
