    Bomanbridge Media announces several deals at ATF

    MUMBAI: Bomanbridge Media, a Singapore-based content distribution and production agency, announced multiple program deals for Asia at ATF.  These deals come on the heels of the company’s recently publicized expansion to 3 countries South Korea, Mongolia and India as well as the launch of their first production, international lifestyle and cooking show Haute & Saucy with Kelly Randall Sia

    IQIYI CCO Ma Dong to deliver keynote at Asia TV Forum & Market and ScreenSingapore

    MUMBAI: Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF), Asia’s leading entertainment content market announces today that Baidu’s IQIYI chief content officer Ma Dong, will deliver an Asia Media Keynote speech “Digital China: The New Storyteller – IQIYI” on 9 December 2014.

     

    For the third consecutive year, ATF 2014 will be held in conjunction with ScreenSingapore 2014. The four-day conference programme will take place from 9 to 12 December 2014 at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. ATF earlier announced a power-packed line up of international speakers including Alon Shtruzman, CEO, Keshet International (Israel), Tom Beattie, Head of Animation and Children’s Programming for Tiger Aspect Productions (United Kingdom) and Nicholas Wodtke, Vice President, Media Solution Centre, Samsung Electronics (Southeast Asia & Oceania).

     

    IQIYI in China’s digital content market

    With over 450 million internet users and a growing middle class in China boosting its business, IQIYI, has grown from strength to strength to now become one of the country’s leading online television and movie portal. To further cement its leadership position in the rapidly growing China online film and TV market, the Baidu subsidiary plans to step up its efforts in 2015, making seven local films, one Hollywood film and producing 500 (15,000 hours) internet dramas. The company is looking to spend at least 300 million yuan to produce its own content.

     

    At the ATF conference, Ma Dong’s session on “Digital China: The New Storyteller – IQIYI”, will see him share about IQIYI’s position in China’s digital world, and the company’s journey to success.

  • BBC Worldwide unveils slate for ATF

    MUMBAI: From Sir David Attenborough to Jeremy Clarkson, Michael Palin to Jane Austen, Cinderella to Igglepiggle, UK pubcaster the BBC ‘s commercial arm BBC Worldwide goes to this year’s Asia Television Forum (ATF) in Singapore with a crop of natural history, factual, children’s, drama and lifestyle titles and a range of formats that will be available for local production.

    BBC Worldwide’s natural history slate opens new chapters while drawing others to a close. Wild China, the BBC’s first ever co-production in China, offers insight into that country. Life in Cold Blood, which tells the epic story of reptiles and amphibians, completes Sir David Attenborough’s landmark overview of life on the planet.

    In the drama catalogue, Mistresses stars Sarah Parish and Sharon Small. It follows the lives and loves of a group of 30-something girlfriends. Fairy Tales, whose cast includes James Nesbitt and Denise Van Outen, offers grown-up adaptations of four childhood classics – Cinderella, The Emperor’s New Clothes, Billy Goat’s Gruff and Rapunzel.

    Andrew Davies, who had earlier adapted Bleak House and Pride and Prejudice for the pubcaster has now turned his hand to Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, while the team behind Primeval present a re-imagining of Frankenstein and the team behind Hotel Babylon present The Whistleblowers, a new high-speed thriller.

    From the BBC’s factual, lifestyle and history teams come Warriors. This is a show based on the lives of men such as Napoleon and Spartacus who shaped the world around them. Michael Palin’s New Europe sees the comedian and traveller continue his global odyssey, this time exploring the countries that are part of the so-called new Europe. The motoring magazine show Top Gear will also be showcased.

    BBC Worldwide’s children’s catalogue includes In The Night Garden, a modern interpretation of a nursery rhyme picture book from Ragdoll, the creators of Teletubbies, and two new animation series: Animalia, based on the hugely popular books by Graeme Base, and Freefonix, an adventure series following three musical renegades.

    New formats include Dance X, recently licensed to ABC in the US, which pits rival dance teams against each other. Find Me The Face is a reality show which follows two top talent scouts as they look to find the next big supermodel. On Fortune – Million Pound Giveaway, five philanthropists give away a million pounds of their own money to deserving members of the public. School’s Out is a quiz show which sends celebrities back to school and tests whether they are top or bottom of the class.

    FremantleMedia sells shows to Asian channels at ATF

    MUMBAI: Following its attendance at the recently concluded Asia Television Forum (ATF), television format creator and distributor FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) has announced a number of deals concluded at the recent market in Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.

    In the Philippines celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s shows were sold. Jamie’s Kitchen, Jamie’s Great Italian Escape and Oliver’s Twist were sold to ABS-CBN’s Lifestyle Network, marking the first time that Jamie will appear on a Filipino network. Jamie’s shows form part of a larger lifestyle package sold to ABS-CBN, which includes a range of other programmes from FremantleMedia Enterprises’ star-studded line up.

    FME VP, sales, Asia Pacific Paul Ridley tied up a deal seeing a package of entertainment, factual, reality and drama programming going to Onmedia a pay TV operator in Korea. The package includes American Idol, Project Runway, Jamie At Home, Jamie’s Return to School Dinners, The Apprentice, Martha, How Clean Is Your House, Property Ladder, Falcon Beach, The Janice Dickinson Modelling Agency.

    In Malaysia the focus was on reality, where broadcaster Media Prima acquired some of the biggest US ratings hits including American Idol, The Apprentice, Project Runway and American Inventor.

    Tying up the deals concluded at the ATF is the raft of programming on its way to Mediacorp TV in Singapore, which acquired a mix of reality and factual programmes, with programmes such as Project Runway, American Idol, The Apprentice, Prehistoric Park, Bills Food, and Jamie at Home heading to Singaporean screens.

    FME CEO David Ellender commented, “Such an impressive list of sales is a credit to both Paul and Ganesh, whose commitment to building and fostering key relationships in the Asia Pacific region is reapinggreat benefits for FME, both in terms of sales and development. After such a successful ATF, we now look forward to continuing that momentum as we look towards Natpe and beyond into 2007.”

    ATF kicks off; participation up 25 %

    SINGAPORE: The Asia Television Forum, Asia Film Market & Conference and the Asia Animation Conference got off to a flying start this morning in Singapore with the Singapore information, communication and arts minister Dr Lee Boon Yang announcing that participation had grown 25 per cent this year.

    Dr Lee stated that the markets had attracted 80 new seller companies, and 50 new buyer companies. The total number of sellers at the market has grown to 250 and buyer countries represented from 25 to 29 countries, revealed Dr Lee.

    Among the countries which have shown sharp increases include: Greece, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Qatar and Ukraine. The companies attending the market for the first time include: Mosfilm Cinema Concern, Kazakh Cinema Distribution, and Russico. All the major four Korean broadcasters including Educational Broadcasting System, Korea Broadcasting System, Munhwa Broadcasting Corp, and Seoul Broadcasting System have made it a point to attend for the first time.

    The minister added that Singapore was working hard to emerge as a post production service providing hub to Hollywood and other countries wanting to dub or subtitle and distribute to Asia. He pointed out that a beginning had been made and that Singapore has a long way to go but the effort will continue in the form of financing funds from the Media Development Authority, and other government institutions. “Media is one of our core focus areas,” he said.

    He also announced that Oak3 Films will be coproducing a telemovie for German broadcaster ARD which will be distributed by Beta Films globally. Another Singapore company Sitting in Pictures is developing a nine part series with Fremantle International Distribution. Dr Boon Yang also said that the MDA has collaborated with Singapore talent management and executive production company RGM Holdings to set up a loan guarantee facility. The loan facility will be used to partially finance at least six international films worth Singapore $80 million over the next two years.

    His most important announcement was that Singapore’s media industry secured coproduction deals worth $50 million at Mipcom 2006

    Additionally, he said that the his ministry had identified interactive and digital media sector as a key engine of growth and that a fund of upto S$ 500 million had been kept aside to catalyse the same.

    Among the companies which are exhibiting at ATF and the AFM include: Sony Entertainment Television, Sahara One, Zee TV, Eros Multimedia, UFO Movies, Indian Television Dot Com, to name a few.

    The highlight from the Indian perspective is the Indian animation conference which is to be chaired by Ashish Kulkarni with participation from Munjal Shroff, P Jayakumar, Rajesh Turakhia, Sudhish Rambothia. SET CEO Kunal Dasgupta is slated to give the welcome address and function as the co-chair.
