    Amidst troubled VFX times, powerhouse Cinesite attracts Rs 1,800 crore investment

    MUMBAI: In a spectacular turn of events that’s left industry insiders cheered up, London-based visual effects powerhouse Cinesite has secured a jaw-dropping $215 million (over Rs 1,800 crore) cash injection – a dazzling ray of hope amidst the storm clouds gathering over the VFX landscape.

    The much-needed financial boost comes just as the industry witnesses the dramatic implosion of once-mighty rivals. VFX titan MPC and its parent company Technicolor crashed and burned last month, while Jellyfish Pictures is currently gasping for air as it scrambles to find a buyer.

    Splash and assemblage entertainment begin production on norm of the north sequel

    MUMBAI: Assemblage Entertainment, the feature-film focused CGI animation studio has begun production on the sequel of 2016 theatrical feature film Norm of the North, along with Splash Entertainment, Lionsgate and Dream Factory In many first-of-its times, it is unprecedented that an independent animated feature from India is greenlit for a sequel to be watched by global audiences in 2018.

    Norm of the North, a 2016 animated comedy-adventure film was directed by Trevor Wall, with voices by Rob Schneider, Heather Graham, Ken Jeong and Bill Nighy. It was co-produced by Splash Entertainment, Assemblage Entertainment and Telegael, and distributed by Lionsgate in North America.

    The film released theatrically in North Americaon January 15, 2016 opening in over 2,400 theatres. Norm also was released theatrically in over 70 territories around the world.

    Thissequel brings together, yet again, the longstanding and dynamic partnership between two animation industry leaders, Mike Young and Madmax (AK Madhavan), renowned to have opened the shores of the Indian animation industry with the successful Emmy and BAFTA Award winning show Jakers! The Adventure of Piggley Winks in 2003.

    Mike Young’s Splash Entertainment is a leading independent animation studio and Distribution Company based in Los Angeles, and is an innovator, developer and producer of many original animated television series and movies.

    Assemblage Entertainment, in a short span of time, has delivered two full length feature films, Norm of the North, and Blinky Bill – The Movie distributed by Studio Canal. It is currently delivering its third full length 3D stereoscopic theatrical feature film scheduled for a wide release in 2018 by Open Road Films.

    Assemblage recently also worked on DreamWorks’ Trollhunters – a Netflix Original Series by legendary filmmakerGuillermo del Toro.Trollhunters received wide global acclaim and won multiple Emmy and Annie awards.

    Set up in 2013 and headquartered in Mumbai, Assemblage boasts of an award winning team 250 people including technocrats, artists and production professionals with several years of collective experience in creating world-class animation productions with major Hollywood studios and independent production companies.

    MUMBAI: Indian 3D animation studio Assemblage Entertainment has strengthened its leadership team across the CGI process verticals.

     

    The company has hired three new professionals namely animation veteran Vivek Ram as CG supervisor, Saswat Sahoo as technical director & pipeline supervisor and Rakesh Patil as studio producer.

     

    Assemblage Entertainment COO Milind D. Shinde said, “We are proud to be in company of such esteemed talent.     Ram has 15 years of experience as a senior industry veteran and VFX Supervisor with extensive experience across the CG animation process. He was engaged in projects such as Madagascar, Madagascar 3, Penguins of Madagascar, Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Incredible Hulk amongst others. He has also worked with studios such as DreamWorks Animation and Rhythm, and Hues.

     
    Sahoo holds more than a decade’s experience as senior technical director and CG pipeline architect. He has been associated with various projects including Puss in Boots, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon, Incredible Hulkand The Golden Compass, which won his team an Academy award. Previously, he has worked at studios such as DreamWorks Animation, Rhythm & Hues, and Prime Focus.

     

    Patil is armed with a decade of experience in the animation industry as a production supervisor focusing on resource management and planning. He has previously worked with DreamWorks and Crest and has played a significant role in animated movies such as Puss in Boots, Madagascar, Dragons, Scared Shrekless and Casper.

     
    Assemblage recently appointed PMV Ramana as art director as well as Rahul Nair and Vaibhav Shah as the lighting and modeling supervisors respectively.

    Assemblage Entertainment expands leadership team with three key hires

    MUMBAI: Indian 3D animation studio Assemblage Entertainment has made key additions to its leadership team. The company has appointed Indian animation industry long timer PMV Ramana to head the creative function as art director. Additionally, two senior level professionals – Rahul Nair and Vaibhav Shah have been hired to head its lighting and modeling verticals respectively.

     

    Ramana has more than two decades of experience in creative art direction, visual development and scripting. He has been associated with various projects including Puss in Boots, Madagascar, Elizabeth 2 & 3 and Prince of Persia. He has worked with studios such as DreamWorks, Qyuki and Prana.

     

    Nair has fifteen years of experience across TV and feature films in a creative and technical capacity. He has worked with studios such as DreamWorks and Prime Focus and has been associated with projects including Puss in Boots, Madagascar and TinkerBell. He joins Assemblage as its lighting supervisor.

     

    With a decade of experience in the animation industry, Shah is a senior character modeler with high proficiency in concept art, texturing and modeling lead characters. He has previously worked with DreamWorks and UTV Toons and has played a vital role in animated movies such as Puss in Boots, How to Train Your Dragons 2 and Rise of the Guardians amongst others. He joins Assemblage as its modeling supervisor.

    AK Madhavan’s Assemblage readies maiden animation film ‘Blinky Bill’

    MUMBAI: Former Crest Animation top boss AK Madhavan’s entrepreneurial animation studio, Assemblage Entertainment, has completed its first full-length animated feature co-production titled Blinky Bill The Movie, with the CGI being co-produced out of its studio in Mumbai.

     

    Blinky Bill The Movie is an Australian feature film produced by Flying Bark Productions (Australia) in co-production with Assemblage and Telegael Teoranta (Ireland). The movie is slated to release on 17 September, 2015 in Australia with the international release to follow. 

     

    Established in 2014, Assemblage is an eclectic young animation studio that has grown from strength to strength and currently employs over 250 people.

     

    Flying Bark Productions managing director Barbara Stephen said, “Blinky Bill is one of Australia’s most iconic characters and his stories have engaged and entertained audiences around the world for many years. We eagerly sought a studio, which would treat one of our national treasures with due respect and the team at Assemblage have done just that.     First introduced to audiences in the 1930s through a series of children’s books, Blinky Bill is considered an iconic Australian children’s classic. A small koala with a big imagination, Blinky is an adventurer at heart who dreams of leaving the little town of Green Patch and following his explorer father’s footsteps. Blinky embarks on a journey that takes him beyond the boundary of Greenpatch in the wild and dangerous Australian landscape in his quest to find his missing father. Although he previously appeared in several successful TV series and movies, Blinky has been created in CGI for the first time in the upcoming feature film release this September.
