    Three Indians selected for Asian Film Academy in Busan

    NEW DELHI: Three Indians have been selected for the Asian Film Academy (AFA), a filmmaking education programme of the Busan International Film Festival.

     

    Tojo Xavier Cheruthuruthil, Mikhail Marak and Manas Mittal are the ones who are selected for this.

     

    AFA selected 24 participants for its 2014 edition from all over Asia. Renowned Hungarian director Béla Tarr will be heading AFA 2014 as the dean, and Busan Film Commission Director OH Seok-geun will also double as the deputy dean.

     

    Korean director Song ll-gon (directing mentor) and Polish cinematography director Ryszard Lenczewski (cinematography mentor) complete AFA 2014 faculty.

     

    The 24 fellows will produce two short films which will be officially presented in the 19th Busan International Film Festival. Other AFA programs include workshops, a master class, special lecture series and mentoring.

     

    Asian Film Academy 2014 will be held for 18 days from 35 September to 12 October.

     

    The Academy has selected three persons from the Phillipines; two each from China, Singapore and Korea; and one each from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

    Lee Chang-dong to be dean of Asian Film Academy

    MUMBAI: Lee Chang-dong, who won an award at the last Cannes Fest for best screenplay for Poetry and Secret Sunshine, will serve as the dean of the 2013 Asian Film Academy (AFA).

    Held jointly with the annual Busan International Film Festival, AFA is an international education program that offers aspiring filmmakers the chance to develop different aspects of their craft. This year‘s edition will be held for 18 days from 26 September to 13 October.

    Lee will teach students about short film production and supervise master classes and lectures. Participants will also learn about the practice and philosophy of filmmaking during the intensive program. In addition to him, emerging Thai filmmaker Aditya Assarat, winner of the New Currents Award at the 2007 Busan Festival for Wonderful Town, will serve as a mentor.

    “With Lee Chang-dong‘s master vision combined with Aditya Assarat‘s enthusiastic energy, the AFA 2013 faculty promises the best education possible for its new prospective fellows,” said the Academy in a statement.

    Earlier those top Asian directors who have supervised the Academy are Korea‘s Im Kwon-taek, Japan‘s Kiyoshi Kurosawa, China‘s Jia Zhangke, Taiwan‘s Hou Hsiao Hsien and Iran‘s Moshen Makhmalbaf and Abbas Kiarostami.

  • Sengupta, Rakeshiya to attend Asian Film Academy

    MUMBAI: Director Reema Sengupta and cinematographer Tarun Kumar Rakeshiya will participate in the 8th Asian Film Academy (AFA) that runs parallel to the Busan International Film Festival 2012.

    While Reema Sengupta has directed a short film Tigers, They‘re All Dead, that won awards at Nasik International Film Festival and Jaipur International Film Festival 2012, Tarun Kumar Rakeshiya, a student of Satyajit Ray Film and TV Institute, has cinematographed the short film Thug Beram.

    Asian Film Academy is an educational program for new Asian talent in cinema, the program will provide its participants opportunities for short-film production, workshops, master class, and mentoring with renowned film directors.

    Twenty four filmmakers from various Asian countries will participate in the AFA to be held from 27 September to 14 October.
