    Graphic india brings Archie to bollywood

    MUMBAI: In an epic announcement that’s sure to send shockwaves around the globe, Archie Comics, home to some of the most popular characters in entertainment, including Archie, Betty & Veronica and Jughead, in partnership with Graphic India, one of India’s leading character entertainment companies, announced plans to develop a live-action, theatrical film based on the iconic Archie Comics characters, bringing Archie and his friends to life, Bollywood-style.

    The production, which will be the first international comic to be translated for Indian screens, is in the early stages with an official release date to be announced. The companies have begun taking initial steps toward a modern, entertaining screenplay that will surely resonate with longtime Archie fans in India and beyond. The Bollywood film will reimagine the classic characters like Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Moose and Jughead as Indians and will feature all the classic elements of the hugely popular comic book series.

    Archie Comics is enjoying tremendous success with the hit TV series Riverdale, which launched in 2017. The company also recently announced with Netflix the upcoming Untitled Sabrina Series. Archie Comics have sold over 2 billion copies worldwide and are published in over 17 languages in over 55 countries.

    India-only Archie comics coming to Comic Con this year

    NEW DELHI: Archie and the gang from Riverdale are officially coming to India this year in the Comic Con India Shows 2017 for Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

    Comic Con India, in collaboration with Archie Publications, has commissioned special #1 editions of popular Archie titles with the exclusive India-only covers. Each pass-holder to Comic Con India Shows this year will receive the exclusive edition comic with a customised city cover.

    Comic Con India founder Jatin Varma said, “One of the first comics I ever read was an Archie and millions of comic book fans in India have a similar story to share. Archie comics are considered as Indian as some of our local comics. Therefore, I am extremely excited to collaborate with Archie Publications to start of this unique collaboration!”

    From visiting the Charminar in Hyderabad, to shooting a Bollywood film at the Gateway of India in Mumbai or playing cricket at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, to touring Delhi — the gang from Riverdale will be everywhere.

    The Comic Con shows for this year are — Hyderabad Comic Con 14-15 October; Mumbai Comic Con 11 -12 November; Bengaluru Comic Con 2 -3 December & Delhi Comic Con 15 – 17 December.

    Netflix adapting ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ into an original series

    MUMBAI:  The subscription streaming service Netflix has announced yet another original TV series based on the ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ books written by Lemony Snicket, the pen name of author Lemony Snicket

    It has acquired the rights to the 13 best-selling novels published from 1999 to 2006.

    Netflix is producing the project and currently looking for a director and will move forward from there.

    Paramount Television, the TV arm of Paramount will produce the series in association with Netflix. Handler will serve as an executive producer.

    ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ tells the tale of orphaned children Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire at the hands of the villainous Count Olaf, as they face trials and tribulations, misfortunes and an evil uncle in search of their fortune, all in their quest to uncover the secret of their parents’ death. More than 65 million copies have been sold in the series, which has been translated into 43 languages and spawned board games, card games, video games and albums.

    ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ is just the latest property to be adapted into a series. Other titles to be adaptation include ‘Archie’, ‘In the Heat of the Night’, ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Big’.
